******Official Boog BBall 'Crootin Thread*******

Memphis dudes changing Crystal Balls to “pro”, Jerry Meyer saying “pro”, jhead says it’s looking like G League

here’s where I’m even more thankful for BRUCE... I’d push my grandmother down a flight of stairs to sign Jalen - but I also am loving the drama and following it all, because I trust BRUCE implicitly... idk who we end up with - maybe it’s Jalen, maybe it’s the GW grad transfer and Kuminga, maybe it’s a couple of dudes I’m not even thinking about and we end up signing 3 or 4 “2 and through’s”, have a growing pains year next year and win a title the year after

I don’t know - but I also don’t care... well, I care but I don’t worry... I’m not concerned, even though I want Jalen more than any other croot I’ve ever lusted after

Yeah I’m not expecting Jalen anymore. I’ll start the grieving process now. Fugg!!!

I feel your pain brother. It’s hard to do after being so excited for so long, but tonight I’ve thrown in the towel on young Jalen. If he signs with us I will be shocked. I know this is probably reading way too much into the tea leaves, but I just happened to come across a live IG interview with him. 2 questions and answers stood out...

1- who is your favorite player and who should be the MVP of the NBA. He said Ja is like his brother and he talks to him on the regular.

2- name your top 5 college players. He named Cole Anthony and Edwards and then the rest of his answer was very strange. He said dang I don’t know any others cause I don’t really watch college basketball.

Not really the type of answer you would think would come from a kid who is fixing to commit to a college and has said himself he was waiting to commit because he wanted to see what teams did well in the post season.

Anyway, I am on to the Young Prince K!

We are about to have a top 5 class regardless if we get JG or Brown.

Kuminga is as much in play as JG and GB IMO....

This G league shit is going to destroy college recruiting. Teams and coaches will think they have their classes wrapped up, just for their best recruits to jump ship at the last minute. It’s fvcking retarded.

The G League only targets like 3-5 guys each year. It’s really not gonna be that big of a deal and won’t affect AU that much at all

It’s still taking 3-5 or more if they decide of the best recruits out of college basketball. That sucks for everyone. Watching Zion at Duke was pretty damn fun.

It’s pretty ridiculous a guy like Zion or Jalen should even consider college. Those are pros/ top 5 picks straight out of HS. Bruce the best in the biz at developing talent so probably be better for us in the long run. Of course this G League shit gonna start up the year we’re on the verge of signing an ultra elite obvious 1 and done talent though.

why can’t Prince K get him some? That would be 2 would be Boogs that could go the G League route. I say that would absolutely be an affect on AU.

Is there an age limit to the rule? Emoni Bates better than all them dudes talking about that G League money. I don’t blame them, but it absolutely will have an affect on college basketball. If it’s 3-5 now and works, next year why not 5-10?

So Jalen has been all about making this shit a mystery.. all this info leaking out the day before his commitment honestly makes me feel better about our chances.

I’m probably just stupid tho
This is where I’m at. I may just be black hole stupid but this kid knows how to play the game and drum up excitement/suspense. He very well could go through with the G-league but seems a little fishy this is leaking just now.

Seems like word leaked out from a reliable source that details are being finalized for Jalen to go pro. Way too much smoke and I want to make sure my hopes are firmly at zero by the time he announces anyway.

All the Pro leaks could make his Insta live announcement less exciting. I expect college choices to get the chatter tonight. And he’s AU bound tomorrow.

Yeah so many years of Boog athletics disappointment makes your stance far more reasonable. I guess I just secretly love the pain. Idk.

I mean the dude put up a insta story yesterday with a G-League hat clearly showing in the background. No way he does that if he wants his announcement to be a total surprise.

I’m trying to convince myself you are right. His IG post about his commitment was a photo of him in a USA jersey. Not one college logo, or anything Memphis or AU related. I’ll be joyfully impressed if it’s a masterful con-job

I got no issues with kids going to make better $$ (or at least make it legal and not have to hide it or act like they are still broke to avoid the NCAA keeping them out of games)

I just don't really understand the G leagues motivation here. It's a good league. The games themselves are competitive because everyone is trying to get that coin. But there really isn't a huge motivation to win the league or anything. I mean you can be the best team in the G League for months, an obvious title level team and then 3 guys get NBA call ups and suddenly you suck. In fact teams that don't have NBA caliber talent may end up with an advantage because they don't lose anyone. Does anyone remember what G League team won a title?

So what's the motivation to pony up big bucks for HS kids? Is there a revenue stream they are hoping to get in on...more televised games or a bigger following? I'm not sure I see it.

Yeah. Absolutely no one will be watching the g league on tv if that’s what the goal is here. I may tune in once, but only a true freak like Zion is gonna move the g league needle imo and none of these kids are that. Seems dumb to pay kids 500k for one season just get a marginal bit more info on them than you would by scouting them in college. But idk

I’m following you on this and agree to a point, but it seems to be all about the branding of the player as early as possible, and the marketing for the shoe deal/companies, which intern provides funds for the G League. At least that’s my take on it. Jalen has a large social media presence and if it works he will sell Nike a lot of shoes.

Well ole Jeff Lee just posted that he’s hearing from AU sources that confirm the national guys saying G-League. My previous posts were idiotic. I am sad.

It is a weird thing and something to remember that these kids won’t be affiliated with the team or organization they play for. Their contract is with the g league itself. So there’s not any incentive for whatever g league coach or team to develop and work with the kid since he isn’t their player. And like @jeramye said, the g league is a farm league so “winning” isn’t always the priority either. Idk, seems like a weird deal for these kids

I think you could drum up some interest and TV revenue for the G league if you had a handful of top projected draft picks playing. But I agree the dynamics of playing for some random affiliate team is weird. The product can’t be as bad as college hoops as much as I love the boogs and the tourney.

Alright hate to be some cliche barner but I still do love our class. We still have Sharife. Get the George Mason kid, pull a miracle with either GB or JK and we’re stacked. Leggo bruce

it'd definitely draw interest for a week or two. Then normal fans would just go, "cool, can't wait till he's in the league next year" and then go back about their business. Only like super hardcord bball amateur nba drafniks would really ever regularly tune into the g league. But htat's just my opinion.

if I’m watching a second of a G League game its for Bryce or Jared... no one is watching mediocre basketball, played by scrubs they have no other attachment to, in empty gyms

and that’s not me being bitter - it’s just not who we are as a country... we watch the biggest and best... anything short of that won’t hold our attention unless we have an emotional attachment or draw that has nothing to do with the actual product being offered

I don't get how it's worthwhile for any team to pay him much of anything seeing how he isn't eligible to be called up at any point during the season. They will invest a ton of time and money with no tangible return and then he is basically a free agent after the season? Or would he still be 2021 draft guy? I have no idea how this works. I'm hoping its all smoke to drum up his Boog commitment...literally shock the world shit lol.

Come TF on bruhs. There isn't enough talk about Greg Brown. Jalen green is going to the g league and will be making around 500k Corey Evans said. We can't compete with that.

Greg Brown choosing Shaka bum **** self over Bruce? That pissed me the hell off. Texas may be the only fanbase to care less about basketball than the gumps. I can't believe Greg's dad caved to his son wanting to go to Texas. He was supposed to lead him to Bruce and AU. I am rustled to the max about this.
