******Official Boog Recruiting Thread******

I would also contend that hiring a Dell McGee would not solve problems we have in recruiting.

If you put Travis Williams on any other staff in the SEC he’d be just as good and might be better than he is on this staff. If you put him on Saban or Smarts’ staff then he’d be national recruiter of the year I guarantee it.

You're right that McGee wouldn't single handedly be enough to propel us to #1, but having multiple 5 star RBs would change Gus's world and he doesn't even appear to know it.

Thats exactly right. I feel like he is just happy to be slightly better than avg. going forward that is probably good enough for 4th or 5th place in the SEC. I see the league over the next 3 yrs or so looking like this...uga, bama, a&m, uf, au, lsu, then everyone else. Maybe we stike gold every 4 or 5 yrs with a stud dual threat QB and have a chance to play in Atlanta. Meanwhile he is getting paid as if he has multiple nattys under his sweater vest.

He has a guaranteed 40 million dollar contract. He can sit his happy ass back for 5 years at least and collect money.

Then you add the fact that 2019 will be a "must get" year for at least 4-5 elite OT/OL prospects, and that Grimes will get his ass kicked on damn near all of them, and it doesn't look too rosy for the future of boog football.

Grimes and PawPaw (DB coach) simply can't remain on our staff for any significant period of time.

If he churns our his typical four loss season for the next four years, and doesn’t beat bama or uga, I think he would definitely be shown the door.

Which would mean he would get a check for 16 million? or so on top of what he had already been paid.

If 75% is guaranteed, then we would owe approximately 16 after the third year, nine after his fourth year.

Not sure that is right. I think we would owe him $21.4M if fired after 3 and $16.2M if fired after 4

And make it only for 4-5 years

I went and looked at the contract, you’re right, we would owe him a little over 16 after four years. Let’s hope Harbert is a man of his word and will cough up the cash when necessary.

That is phucking insane. You offer to guarantee 50%, not 75. If he doesn’t accept that then you tell him to enjoy Arkansas.
And make it only for 4-5 years

Nope you shake the man’s damn hand and say:
Gus I know the decision is hard. Arkie has a special place in your heart. You have a job here if you want it but if Arkie is where your heart is, we support you and wish you the best of luck.

Then you shake his hand and hope to God he storms out the door having handed him zilch.

I would have just said (after being informed Arky has a contract on the table):

"I'll tell you what. I'll even waive the buyout you would have to pay us. Good luck"

I understand where you’re coming from, but under the circumstances, after beating two number one teams in a row, he was going to get a raise and extension. Auburn’s leaders just caved to Sexton. so disappointing.

I'm perfectly fine with Tim Horton as RBs coach but that is insanity.

I would contend that UGAs recruiting prowess has most to do with having a head coach that prioritizes it in his life. He doesn't breathe without thinking about how the recruits are doing.

Malzahn looks at it as something he does for a few weekends a year and he's perfectly fine getting the players that want to fill in a depth chart. Why fight for a 5 star when you can get a raw 4-star that is fine with possibly redshirting?
Naw, bruh. Horton blows as a recruiter. Decent corch maybe but our RB stable has been pedestrian for a minute. If we have the OL to do it, a pedestrian RB can put up good numbers in a Gus offense. Doesn't make them any less average.

Dell McGee is the truth right now. Gus not having already hired him should be with cause firing type stuff.

.

Disagree on all points.

Feel free to break down Horton's recruiting prowess and how his results have been better than McGee's.

Feel free to point out where I said that anywhere in my post above. I think Horton is a good recruiter, I don't think he is on McGees level.

My post above was really more about Malzahn vs Smart than anything with Horton.

I think Horton is a good assert and I would contend that the awesome receiver recruiting we've all of a sudden dropped into has some of his hand involved. He gets mentioned every now and then with prospects that aren't running backs.

McGee is an elite recruiter but my point is clearly stated above that being involved with an exciting head coach has more to do with their success in this cycle, than individual prowess of the coaches.

I don't think Rodney Garner all of a sudden lost his mojo when he left UGA but he isn't recruiting on nearly the same level with Malzahns staff than he did with Richt who blows Malzahn out of the water in program excitement.

How many kids can we take in 18 for basketball? I look for us to take a transfer like every year Bruce has been here.

It depends on who leaves. As of right now, if everyone came back, only the one we have committed

I know the one we have committed is listed as 2019 but is trying to get reclassified to 2018. I also think someone will leave too.

I don’t think DP will be back

Then that would open up a spot. You may not be wrong. I think we will know when the NCAA responds to our request for reinstatement. I only see him coming back (or having a chance to) if they go ahead and add the verbiage they did to Wiley's (ineligible now but eligible next year). I could see his response not including the latter.

I really wouldn't mind if just one more spot opens up taking a non-grad transfer for the 13th spot.

2 years too long, but glad to have you on board. Anyone who thought Gus was a great coach after aTm 2014 was lying to themselves.

I don't necessarily share the same opinion on that. There wasn't anything in the 2014 A&M game that told me that (or any 2014 game).

But hindsight being 20/20, the ABSOLUTE latest I should have not had your thought was the 2015 UGA game. But I let JJ take on way too much of the blame (even though Gus or no Gus, he was terrible). And really lol @ me for not having that thought after the 2016 Clemson game and waiting until the 2016 A&M game.

Yeah. His tweets are sounding more and more desperate. It’s like he’s finally been confronted with the reality that his Boog career may be over.

If he’s gone, it wouldn’t shock me if they get a transfer that sits a year.

If Austin leaves too, they’ll hit the grad tranny market for any big that has a sniff of a post game. Another Tyler Harris would be great for this current squad imo

I want a dude with a big butt. Doesn't have to be a 7' tall dude. Just need someone that is willing to stick that arse in there and battle.
