Gonna be a 2020 kid. Yawn

He’s a stud but not excited that far out
have no idea if he can play, but the kid already looks like a grown ass man and he's only a rising jr in hs

Somebody tell me about this Cord Sandberg kid. His age kind of piqued my interest a little...

Solid lefty DTQB out of HS. Committed to Mullen, mainly because some bigger schools figured he’d go play pro baseball. Spent 5 years in minor league baseball. Now wants to come back and try his hand at college football, a la Chris Weinke and Brandon Weeden. He’s goong to commit somewhere Monday/Tuesday and enroll at that school then.

Here’s the way I look at it. We have an extra scholarship that we can give to him or a walk-on. If Sandberg wants to come to Auburn, you take him. He’s 23, physically mature, likely mentally mature, and has played professional sports for the last 5 years. He’s likely going to need at least a year to get comfortable with football again. So, you bring him in and let him compete for the starting job with Nix and Willis next year. If he ends up being a Brandon Weeden or Tim Tebow, you made a great decision (obviously unlikely). If he ends up doing nothing, you don’t really lose anything. We tried to get a second QB in this 2018 class anyway to go with Gatewood. This would essentially be that but perhaps a better option than a 18/19 year old kid.

I guess I didn’t realize that he’s enrolling this summer.

Sounds like Joey Gatewood is already being asked to be a TE

I do think there is some concern about the future at QB. But I think this move is more about Willis than Gatewood. If we don’t land Sandberg or a JUCO in December, we will go into next spring with Willis, Gatewood, and Nix as our QB options. Adding Sandberg doesn’t really improve that much, but he’s another body who was a talented QB in HS who might have potential to be a bridge between Stidham and Nix.

If this kid comes in this summer and beats out Willis for the 2 spot, I'd bet he transfers out immediately. Would definitely be a pity

Don’t think he beats Willis out this summer/fall. I don’t expect Sandberg to play anywhere this fall. I think it will take him at least this fall to get back into football. Hopefully, Willis has a better fall camp than his spring and shows some improvements. After watching him in his freshman year, I thought he shows real promise. His spring was really unexpected for me because he didn’t look good the couple times I saw him plus A-Day.

doesn't take very long to learn Gus' offense. If he comes to Au and participates in fall camp, then he could easily be the number two guy

I’d be very surprised to see Gus trusting Sandberg with four weeks of practice to be the backup if Stidham goes down. Maybe late in the season once he’s had 2-3 months of practice, but even then, hed likely not have any game experience. Willis seems like Thebes only option as a backup right now.

Wonder what bo nix thinks? Think it’s safe to say mail and gate wood won’t play QB at AU.

Wouldn’t think Bo is too worried about it. He’s going to get a legit shot at the QB position, and if he lives up to the hype, he will win the job. I’m not ready to write off Malik or Gatewood yet, but this definitely has to be a signal to them to get it together quickly, especially Malik.

Im not sure why we would see that soon. Im very glad we took Sandberg, but he has been away from football for along time and it will take time get back into it. Way too early to write off either Willis or Greatwood, IMO
he's like a 25 year old, just engaged former professional athlete. Not some 18, 19 year old kid. I think he's gonna be pretty serious and professional about the whole thing and I'm expecting him to be the #2 dude after fall camp. It doesn't take that long to "get back into" one of the most simple offenses in the country.

If he is the 2nd best QB at the end of fall camp, I hope we make him the #2.

With Greatwood, I'd be fine just finding ways to get him on the field. Dude could be really good at multiple positions, including QB, IMO

Gotta admit I was a little iffy on TWill being ready for the show when we hired him. Happy to admit I was wrong AF..

T Will was a GA on the 2010 team and played a crucial role with the LBs, especially Bynes. I was so happy to see him come back. I'm glad I was right, plus I had no idea what kind of recruiter he would be. That has been a great surprise.

In other news, UGA just landed John Emery Jr. after an unbelievable haul last year.

Fvck you, Horton/Gus.

uga is kicking everyone's ass in recruiting right now. Kirby's got the money flowing in Athens. I work with a sales rep/uga fan who said after they lost Derrick Brown to us, they'd never get outspent for a recruit again. He claims they paid $500k for Fields.

Wish we’d spent $750k on him.

A potential Cam Newton on campus for 3-4 years is worth at least $5-10 MM in total revenue for the Auburn football program. Easily.
