******Official Boog Recruiting Thread******

Yes, Brown obviously is a journeyman. No need in Boog U becoming the place that gives him a permanent home

Most of these coaches are. I get worried if we have coaches that stick around for too long. Aside from guys like Rod Garner, most of these guys can’t stand being at one place too long.

I have always assumed Garner doesn’t move because he has like 18 women in his house.

The #1 QB for 2019 reclassified to 2018 so we now have the #1 QB for 2019 committed

WE JUST GOT BETTER

Lol. I believe during Gus’ press conference after the first signing period he specifically said that procuring a TE was a top priority. What a bozo but you can’t blame the kids. Gus has an historically bad record at actually using TEs. Even that kid that Coach on the Boog board (believe his name is mattimer or something) was a lowly TE prospect and mattimer was open on the board about advising the kid not to play for Gus

Seems like Joiner may have taken his spot or at least made us not ready to take him, which I'm perfectly fine with.

That kid isn't a TE. We got Jimboed bro. Gonna settle for some 3* athlete to fill things out or just not use a couple spots.

But we don't use a TE in the traditional sense. I'd much rather have an athletic HBack than a wasted scholarship at TE.

I love the idea of using a guy like Joiner like how Gus previously used Chad Clay.

No reason to sign a true TE, IMO for what we do.

Wasn’t but a few months ago that Mikecb and hunter48 trolled the board into believing that the Boogs were getting both Justin Fields and J Ross. Of course, that led to Rice fantasizing about Joey Gatewood being a TE. Now of course, Gatewood is all we got and he’s better QB than Fields blah blah blah

They were on Fields, not sure on Ross. I thought they may have said he was headed elsewhere.

The two I pay most attention to in recruiting is jhead and autigers07.

I think mike lost a bet to autigers07 over Fields. The whole time mike and hunter (and PFD) were telling us we would get Fields, 07 said we were no higher than 3rd place.

Not sure what you mean by "Gatewood is all we got" comment. I think this kid is going to be a stud. Ended up #62 over overall and the #3 DT QB.

Gus's offense always had TE's in the past. I believe our not using TE's of late is a reflection of recruiting failures not a reflection of not needing them. We are consistently wasting one of 5 eligible receiver positions with a 6 OL because we don't have a guy who can put his hand down and block as well as catch the ball. That is beyond idiotic and leads to doing stupid things like throwing the ball to backup OL int he bowl game.

But the TEs we used played a lot of HBack. The most effective one was Lutz. But even back then, I thought we used packages with an extra lineman (may be wrong).

Like I said, JMO. But I would rather have a guy who can play HBack and be split out as a TE if need be. I'd love to start slipping the HBack out into coverage a lot more. We seemed to have had success with it this year when we used him like that.

But I see no reason for us to take Joiner and Alamio when we plan to use Joiner at the same position (as well as some RB). would much rather use that spot elsewhere. Im also a big fan of Shenker, who we signed last year. I think he would fit great in what I would like to see us do with the Hback/TE position.

The Patriots run a spread and they use Gronk beautifully. Just go get us a Gronk, Gus. It's not that hard.
I'd take some oafy swoop from bumblefug, AL at this point. Just some tall fatbody with soft mits that can create space around the GL. Got Chan Cox splitting out wide and backup tackles running fades what a disgrace.

Why would we?

Kid wants the best for his future and Bama will actually develop him and give him a fair shake to earn playing time as a true freshman with a legit QB who will be only a sophomore.

If he's smart, he ends up at Bama.

Why not Clemson?

You’d have to be a little dense to expect big things from any HS QB Gus signs. Shirley to gawd his blind ass is gonna find that nut one day. Maybe this will be it......
Especially since they spend their first 1-2 full seasons in the program getting marginal meaningful experience in the passing game during games and basically are asked to practice handing off and running out the clock.

He's such a complete moron with his dumbass "my ole coaching bud/mentor in Arkansas HS football said have just 4-5 plays perfect" approach that has embarrassed us many times the past few years.

Joiner is too soft to play RB, no way in hell he converts to HB and ever sees the field. You have absolutely lost your mind if you believe otherwise. He'll either be a RB, or slim down and be a 3rd or 4th team WR.

First of all, Lutz played very little H. He played it mostly out of necessity because we lost Eric Smith but he wasn't great at it. I do not recall Lutz being on the field with a sixth OL a single time in 2010, but I guess I could be wrong.

Also, I highly doubt that Joiner will be playing the H that Cox currently plays. If you want a good look at what I believe they were talking about, go back and look at the last A-Day before Roc transferred. It's a role where you get the guy in space or let him block DBs as opposed to inside LBs. I believe that is the position they want Joiner for. One main reason for this is because he isn't a very physical kid, so it's highly unlikely he is going to be a major part of our run blocking schemes.

To be fair, you thought Queen was going to be good.

You can change someone's physicality. That is coachable.

Mike and Hunter definitely were trolling balls about J Ross. I remember starting a thread about Ross going to Bama and it went like nine pages bc Rice kept on saying how right Mike is all the time. Doesn’t matter though.

You just made me think of when Rice would quote Mike about getting Fields, then all of a sudden, rice got a source in the AD confirming it.
