The kid wasn't coming to Auburn and we suck at TE recruiting. No one over here gives two shits about the kid now. As far as I know no one is an A&M or UCLA fan, so maybe if you want to bump threads about TE's going elsewhere, then I think the Rice's of the world are who you are looking for to converse with on the subject.

Not going to claim any insider work here but when we started re-recruiting Joiner was right around when we started talking to the next tier of tight ends.
My whole argument for signing Joiner was because I could see him playing TE/HB, and then come to find out on his visit that’s what the staff is selling him on.
I think he is a much better pass catcher possibility than a runner, and he has an elite body and athleticism for that. Could be a pretty big boon for us in that signing.

If Joiner could put on size, then he could be something similar to what Aaron Hernandez was at UF. Could line him up all over the place

I think Evan Engram is a good comp too. Similar build to Engram and Engram never blocks anybody. Could be a matchup problem for linebackers and safeties. I was impressed with Joiners athleticism for his size.
He is not breaking any tackles in his clips, hence why he is such a bad option at RB.

I do think we'll eventually have to promote him to that spot to keep him from getting it somewhere like South Carolina or MSU though. Someone is going to want that dude and soon.

That is fine. I like the formula we have now on defense. Does a player that Gus Malzahn brought from the GA ranks provide that balance that would give him authority for his defense?
I think its a good thing when coaches we love move on to promotions too. I'd like to see something of a tree started if we are stuck with this coach for 5-7 years or more.
James left for a lateral move which was shitty. I was just kidding about T Will. But Saban has crazy amounts of turnover on his staff every year. And, with Gus’ new contract and Steele’s success, it’s doubtful a DC gig would open up at AU for awhile. Could easily see him being considered for UA’s DC in 2-3 years if there’s an opening. Kirby was just as young, so it’s not like Saban doesn’t trust younger coaches
I just think Twill is going to get a DC offer that's good enough before he's on their radar. I wouldn't be shocked if he's recruiting for someone else this time next year as a DC. Some other SEC or ACC school that is more middle of the pack will come looking because he's too good of a recruiter, he's young and energetic and he's a smart dude. He'll impress like hell in an interview too.

To be honest, I have always thought part of the rankings is the perceived ability of the coaching staff to develop and put a kid in the best position. So a db going to Steele or Kirby or Saban might get a bump and a QB going to Gus might get a drop. I really have no idea how they rate the guys they do though.
This is where I’m at. Kid is a slightly faster, slightly stronger-armed Sean White.
Won’t sniff a championship at AU, imo. If he wasn’t Pat’s son, our fanbase would be ambivalent towards him.

Doesn’t strike me as a youngster Gus can win a lot of ball games with. Few do.
A buddy of mine who is a bama fan high school baseball/football coach, but only loosely because bama didn't offer him and he played baseball at Jax State, went to the PV Austin game and he told me that Bo Nix was the best high school player he has ever seen in person. Now that being said, when I watched his film I thought that what makes him great is the little things. I don't think his arm strength is elite, but his accuracy is. His footwork is amazing, and I think that's a big part of why he is so accurate. Athletically, Sean White is probably a fair comparison. If we could keep the defense at an elite level and actually recruited elite RBs, then we could win a championship with him. That being said, I think his NFL prospects are slim because his measurables are going to hold him back unless he hits another growth spurt. I could be wrong, he could be the next Drew Brees for all I know.
