Guess we won't see the trophy presentation. But whatever. Sloppy play but still blasting that ass in the end. We are we are the Boogs

this squad is a combo of the last 2 years

2 years ago we won a lot of games early, and were playing really well, but ultimately peaked too soon and just didn’t have the depth to do it for 5 months without Danjel and Austin

last year we kinda paced ourselves, figured out rotations as we went, kept plugging away and making steady progress until Chuma was ready to take over, and we were the best team in the country

this year we’re doing all of the pacing ourselves and figuring things out - lots of new guys in new roles, figuring out rotations and how to attack, waiting for Sir Isaac to be ready to take over... but we’re still winning games, and most are barely competitive

I don’t know what that means, but it’s good... really good

We are a Program, Mutherfvckers. War Damn HYGs
I just wanna say my proudest Internet moment was probably proclaiming boog U a basketball school and Bruce the greatest coach in Boog U history the moment he signed the contract.

May have sold Bruce short in retrospect he may be and the greatest person ever associated with Boog U. Cam, Bo, Bruce, Charles, Tim Cook, maybe some astronaut who’s name escapes me. That’s pretty much the list.

I was praying Auburn to hire him when Tennessee hired him... my constant dream for 10+ years was for Auburn to hire a Bruce Pearl type, or to find our Bruce Pearl

when the real one became available, I was beside myself, making promises to god I knew I’d never keep, if we could hire the man... I’d have shut down every other team on campus if that’s what it took - and somehow it actually happened

and he’s surpassed every high expectation I ever had

The thing that is different about this team than the last two years is that we can rebound/defend against anybody in the country and we seem deep AF.

You have some monster in the post? We're ok.
You have some stud wing/guard? We're ok.
You rebound really well? We're ok.
You get somebody in foul trouble? We're ok (so far).

Biggest hurdles are gonna be when we can play somebody who is really athletic and defends really well. And how are we going to close out games against really good teams?

That being said, not sure I thought I would ever seen AU basketball in this position. I'm so happy...

he Peter Griffin’d ah’d it for 30 seconds - stopped to complain to the ref - then went back to Peter Griffin mode
saw him say "he moved under me" and brother I gotta tell you that if you try that little old man church league move where you go super quick to catch the defender off guard b/c you can't elevate to shoot over him you are going to find some feet under your 4" vertical sometimes. That's the hazard of that little "surprise" move you have in your arsenal.

We got so used to being a great offensive team, that having an elite defensive team snuck up on us
Our D is just ridiculous already and you know Bruce gonna have this O right. Last couple nights we still put up 80 and it’s like we were ass on offense. Bruce got this program on another level from the rest of the cbb universe.

We didn't shoot well from 3 at all and really didn't hit jumpers/floaters all that well either. Our decent FG% in the end was mostly dunks and tap ins. It didn't come close to mattering.

We defend the absolute hell out of you and make you want to quit.

We beat you up on the glass and harass you everywhere.

We are so damn athletic you have no choice but to foul us a billion times and let us shoot 5x as many FT's as you shoot.

We are so damn athletic that we just manufacture buckets out of a vat of athleticism and Bruce sweat.

We defend the absolute hell out of you. Did I say the one already? Don't care. We defend the absolute hell out of you. You got 3 guys that get your close to 60...well they can have 30 and like it and go home depressed and sore and hating life because that's the reality of what's coming at you.

Such a blessing don’t even care how shitty the huthut program is. Not only are we great but it’s such a fun style. I watch other college hoops games and it’s just eye cancer meanwhile these HYGs run and gun and rain 3s and jam all over some hapless losers. Magnificent.

I love this part of the game where we have worn you down and we drag our nuts across your face.

Best post of the night. This is the best descriptor of what this team does to opponents right now. We aren't sharp offensively yet. We aren't super fluid or consistent. But we just wear the absolute ^%#%@ out of you with superior athletes and once you start to feel the impact of it we're dragging our nuts across your face and by the time you can get them off your eyes the scoreboard says you trail by 20. Every. Damn. Time.

I need a shower after reading this. I’m so sweaty

I pray he can keep this up when he faces elite defenders. He has far exceeded my expectations though and I love him like a son.
The coolest thing about Samir to me is that I think he maybe had this in him all along but just deferred to our other studs last year for the good of the squad.

Like he put his head down, defended his ass off, and did whatever else was needed for the boogs to get dubs.

Honestly he’s making me feel like a big fuggin idiot because I was pretty down on him for the better part of last year and now that I have seen his game fully blossom it makes me have Ho Daddy level respect for the dude

Kind of shocked Wiley didn’t have 10+ boards tonight. I thought I remember him pulling rebounds down all night?

too many posts above mentioned it to quote them all, but, to add to the "make their ass quit" discussion...

"One of their players - I'm not going to say who - came up to me and was like '(you guys) are killing us right now'" Doughty said. "Each and every team we've been playing throughout the year has been saying that in the second half. Once he said that, I just told my guys, 'Let's keep that foot on the pedal, let's run the score up a little bit more, let's get those guys who are not really playing into the game.'"

He had his opportunities to have a bigger role and be a go to scorer last season but he wasn't up to to it. In the beginning of last season, Bruce had no confidence in Jvon and let Samir run the point a lot (like he's doing great at now) and he was trash and it got totally scrapped. He's definitely a more improved player this season no doubt.

While I agree with this, having Bryce and SBJ last year meant there was a vastly different dynamic. Some players don't expand into their role until it's a necessity IMO. Either way, what a treat for us.

I also think at best he's a serviceable PG. He's better at the 2 and we just weren't going to play him a ton of minutes at the 2 because that was going to be Bryce and sometimes even Jared once JVon started playing well.

Guys play better in their best positions with roles that fit their game. We're blessed that some of these kids have been performing jobs for us that help us succeed that maybe aren't their best fits. That's some good team stuff there. But the more often we can have guys in their best roles/best fits the more dynamic we will be.
