****** Official UGA at Boogs Game Thread ******

Nope, just wasn't giving Gus any credit until he earned. I'm really glad for him that he beat his first team with a pulse in 3.5 seasons.

That's mostly what I was trying to say but it came out clunky. No one but homers would give Gus the benefit of the doubt.

Would love to hear from @4Panic and his thoughts (and if he has heard from Kirby)

Just as shocked as everyone else who watched the game. Said they had a great week of practice. Everyone was healthy and super focused. Just straight got their asses whooped. As I posted last week they were worried all week about our front 7. Seems they had good reason to be. Called it the best DL in college football. Every single call and bounce went AU’s way, and when that happens and you get a teams best game of year on offense, defense and ST that usually is the outcome. It is big boy SEC football and that is why you actually have to play the games. Team will be better for it. They know their entire seasons goals are ahead of them.

It was the most complete ass-whipping OBBERN has put on another team since the 2004 regular season Tennessee game, in my opinion. Maybe some game from 2010 I'm not remembering, but from an all phases stand-point that's the game that pops out in my mind. Maybe when we destroyed Mizzou and stole their manhood. This Georgia team was perceived to be better than that squad was.

I honestly wonder how much of a mirage their season has been after watching Saturday go down and realizing that the East may be worst division in the entire country (Pof5 conferences).

Ive said to several UGA buddies that Kirby really walked into and perfect storm this year with how bad the East has been, but to give him full credit, he took maximum advanTage of it.

With that said, it is no given we beat them if we play again.

They beat ND in south bend and whooped a good Mississippi St team’s ass. All with a freshman QB. Not sure you can call their season a mirage, especially since they were whipping everyone’s ass.

Wouldn't be hard to see them winning the rest of their games and a chip. Are they that good? No but neither are any other college football teams. They totally imploded and made a competitive ball game a route largely due to their own stupid mistakes. Crazy stuff happens when youngsters of limited abilities play games.

Correct. They had beaten the only two decent teams they had played, but the rest of the schedule had been garbage. Which was the perfect setup up for them to be able to run the ball 70-75% of the time and be able to rely heavily on the run game and not make the True Frosh do much or put the game on his shoulders. And in the end, it masked there biggest weakness - Jim Chaney

As I said, Kirby took full advantage of it. Not every coach would accomplish that. Im not trying to take away from them. You can only beat the teams that are on your schedule. They did that up until Saturday.

We will see what UGA is really all about now over the next three weeks. This could be a good thing for UGA or a bad thing (on hos the rest of the year unfolds).

Very difficult for me to see that. I will be the first to admit I am wrong if they do.

Yep. Just goes to show what happens when one team is at its best and the other not so much. Anything can happen on any given weekend. That was not the same Miss St team on Sat night against bama that got abused by AU and uga.obviously that was not the same Bama team Sat night that has blasted eveyones ass all year. That was not the same ND team that has been running all over folks all year that played Miami. That was the best Miami team Sat night to take the field all year. That same Miami team struggled mightily over their last 4 games against fsu, Ga T, Syracuse and UNC. Was uga overrated, yep. Is the East bad, yep. Are we guranteed to beat bama and smash uga again, I wish, but nope. So much has to go right and wrong for a team to do what we did on Sat. What I do know for sure is we are as good/better on the field than any team we lineup against. That makes me happy!

What's hard to see? They've still got as clear a path to the playoff as anyone. They're good enough to beat anyone if they play well/ get a couple bounces to go their way.

Just like that LSU game was motivation for our beloved young Boogs, don't be surprised if UGA comes out hot and whips ass from here on out. Still a super talented team with the best runningbacks in the country. They could easily use this ass whipping as motivation

I think auburn exposed a weakness that would make it extremely hard for them to beat a team (or at least have a good offensive game) with a good DLine - their oline is average at best. Then throw in Chaney and a true freshman QB.

Like I said, I just don't think they could run the table through Auburn/Alabama in the SECCG and then two top 4 teams following that. That is just my opinion. That doesn't make me right. It is just what I think.

I can tell you this, I am worried about the health of the Kentucky players this weekend

They should handle UK pretty easily.

Tech could be a trap game for them. Also not the ideal style to play against the week before the SECCG.

Never as good, or as bad as you look. AU curb stomped their asses, but they gave us the boot to use. Thats how the game goes sometimes. Football is played with a ball and sometimes it bounces your way, sometimes it does not. If I we play them again I will guess the line will probably be no more than 3 pts either way. I will take AU and expect to win a tight one. I just hope like hell we get that chance.

Agree here. The option offense is enough to scare any good coach. Throw in a rivaly and the week before you rematch with AU, or play bama for a shot at he playoffs. That would scare the shit out of me if I was a dawg fan

Yeah I mean I'm not saying they're the favorite or that I expect it but they have about as good a chance as anyone at this point. Every team still in it has their flaws.

It’s like you’re trying to discredit a good Boog victory just bc you’ve been bullish that you think Kirby isn’t a good coach

Not at all. It was a great win for Auburn and Gus. This has nothing to do with Kirby being a good coach or not. I said it before the game and I say it now, just not sure how good this team is. They have an opportunity now to bounce back and do big things.

You can still be a good/great team and play a bad schedule.

Posted by Archie on tbb. Doesn't warrant its own thread, but does at least warrant a mention. The mere fact the Boogs have a chance - albeit slim - to break the all-time SEC record for PPG in conference play is noteworthy in and of itself.

Auburn has scored over 300 points in SEC play...

...for just the second time in program history.

2010: 306 points in 8 SEC games
2017: 301 points in 7 SEC games

If Auburn scores more than 19 points against spuat in 9 days they will have averaged more than 40 points a game for SEC play in 2017. They are averaging 43 points a game in the 7 SEC games already played (if I did the math correctly).

Never saw that coming after the 11-sack Clemson debacle. Guess teams can "improve" during the season from time to time...somebody deserves credit for that.

Note: I believe (think) if Auburn were to score 35 points against spuat (for a total of 336 points in 8 SEC games) that would give them the all-time SEC record for for points scored in a season against SEC opponents, breaking a record set by one of Urban Meyer's UF teams (I think....just haven't had time to look up and verify).

Most complete ass-kickings Auburn has dished out to a good-great team:

1. 2010 South Carolina 56-17 (SECCG)
2. 2017 Georgia 40-17
3. 2014 LSU 41-7

Not a mirage, they are good. They just likely were not a true #1 team at any point. They get ND at a great time and they played perfect vs MSU (who has been a different team on the road vs home).

They are using the bama method without all the tools. They just lean on you and if you aren’t good enough they lean till you break and the game tilts their way quickly. They didn’t look great bs UK for most of that game but they leaned and leaned until UK wore down. Bama can do that with true Top 15 teams. Not sure UGA can. And when someone hits them back in the mouth they are in trouble bc they don’t have another way of winning right now IMO. On the right day they can win the SECCG vs either team from this state, but I can’t see them winning the 3 in a row it would take to win the playoffs. Someone in those 3 games is going to beat them or draw even at the line and when they can’t break you down with force I don’t see where the winning plays come from. Fromm may end up great, but right now 80% of his success is passing vs teams loaded up to stop the run and beat down from chasing those RBs. When that’s gone you see what we saw at JHS.
