One of the top basketball prospects in the state of Alabama for the 2021 class,
KeShawn Murphy was part of an impressive group of players on the Auburn campus on Sunday for the Bruce Pearl Elite Camp. Already with an offer from Auburn along with Alabama, Ole Miss, UAB and UNLV, Murphy’s length and athleticism was on display as he continues to show he’s a player to keep an eye on in the coming two seasons.
“The camp was fun to be honest with you,” Murphy said of being back at Auburn. “There were people all around that I didn’t know. Just to compete with different people was pretty fun to me.”
One of the things that made the day even more fun for Murphy was having the opportunity to team up with fellow in-state 2021 prospect Jerdarrian Davison for the day. Already very familiar with each other and their games, Murphy said it made the day better playing with a point guard like J.D.
“It was just like another day in AAU,” he said. “We dominate together and it’s pretty fun.”
Getting the chance to showcase his skills, Murphy said he also talked to the Auburn coaches and found out what they liked about his game.
“I talked to them before the day,” Murphy said. “They were telling me that I’ve gotten much quicker and faster. I actually grew over the summer. The last time Auburn had an elite camp I was 6-7. Now I’m 6-9.”
The added height and experience playing last season and throughout the summer has given Murphy a much different attitude on the court. Now more aggressive, he’s taking control of the game with his ability to play both inside and outside.
“My physicality has been questioned by some,” Murphy said. “I feel like I can prove during my junior year that I have some physicality in me.”
That combination of size and athleticism is something Murphy feels like would be a good fit in Pearl’s system at Auburn. While he’s taking his time with a decision, he said Auburn is definitely a school high on his list.
“I love how Bruce Pearl can get his players to shoot like that,” Murphy said. “Bruce Pearl can get every player to become a great shooter. I feel like I can shoot and take advantage of that. He plays with a lot of guards and he likes to play fast. I feel like I could play in that.”
