OT: AUBURN BASKETBALL

Leath responds to DENIM:

Thank you for your interest. This situation is much more complicated than most people know. As someone that has more facts than anyone else and has served on both the NCAA Board of Directors and Board of Governors I understand the situation quite well. I assure you that I want Bruce as our coach and am trying to find a solution. Compliance does not run athletics and athletics does not run the university. However, we will run clean programs and I will always put Auburn first.

What a breath of fresh air.

Nobody is clean in college basketball. Outside of some of the high school coaches, nobody is clean in high school basketball. While you may be correct, our support staff is dicking us while everyone else's is trying to make it through this as unscathed as possible.

Yeah, well, I think there is more to it.....obviously. JMO

If two video guys knew about it, then it's safe to assume others did as well. JMO

There are levels of "knew about it"

Knew it while it was happening and were in on making sure nobody talked, telling kids to stay quiet and even attempting to help Chuck keep his ducks in a row. Maybe even participated in some meetings or setting things up.

Heard about it after the fact and retroactively tried to make sure Chuck kept his ducks in a row

Heard rumors about it, maybe asked the kids involved and got confirmation and then stayed quiet.

Heard chatter about it, never asked anyone, assumed it was true but didn't want to dig any deeper and just tried to forget about it and hope it was false. Kinda like hearing your friends wife was cheating and you kinda knew it was probably true but didn't want to know so you just moved on with life.

The levels here matter a ton.

My suspicion is that there 'could' be something in all his communication devices that implicates his knowledge of the Chuck stuff. Did he definitely know or is just that remote possibility enough for him to defer to his legal counsel on not discussing the matter?

I just see no benefit in railroading the guy. What the NCAA gonna do put our bball program on probation? lol wgas.

This is where the moron hicks come in. If it was football, they'd see that probation was likely coming one way or the other and weigh if we were good enough to roll the dice and play for a good season or two now with bigger probation as a result of fighting and appealing the NCAA. That's pretty much what they did with Cam(also what Ole Miss was doing until they had to fire Freeze BTW). But in basketball they get all protective of the entire athletic department, thinking hoops probation is going to somehow leak into other areas like it's a contamination that cannot be controlled. I think they fear that if something came up with football and we already had hoops on big NCAA probation stuff that we'd get the death penalty or something. It's just dumb, hick, ass-backwards protective thinking.

I'm not saying there isn't, I'm saying we should be covering up anything not unearthed in the FBI investigation outside of endangering players.

I understand that, but the NCAA will be on our doorstep soon and "maybe" there is some shit that just can't be covered up. As a fan, yes, by all means do anything possible to keep my fandom moral as high as possible. Reality, probably not in the best interest for the University.

I'd like to know how bama navigated this thing. Not that their guy was implicated nearly like Chuck but they obviously handled it perfectly. I just don't see how the NCAA is gonna be able to really do anything about this stuff with all the schools implicated.

Im just ready for this dog an pony show to end.

If you are going to fire him, then do it.
If you are not, stop with dragging the university through the mud by leaking info to the media.

I don't think this is a dog and pony show. I think there are legit concerns. Maybe dog and pony show isn't what you meant.

I just feel like Bruce not being implicated in the FBI thing is enough cover. We secured the resignation of our AD, held out players and proceeded with an audit of the program. I guess getting Bruce and the staff on record is the final piece there but not entirely necessary due to the FBI case being ongoing. I'd like to know how AZ, Miami, Ok St, G Tech, USC are handling things because they seem to be going about it a lot more quietly without their HCs jobs being in danger.

Was referring to using the media to drive an agenda. Only hurting the school more and more.

I agree there are legit concerns.

But time to stop giving ultimatums. Either mean what you say and stop bluffing or stop making threats and using the media to leak the "info" you want leaked to paint a specific, one-sided picture of the situation.

And you’re 100% sure the leaks are coming from the admin or AD?

No. I know no facts of the case (other than what the FBI provided in the indictment). But the safe assumption is that Bruce isn't doing this to himself/his camp (in attempt to make himself look like he is doing wrong).

If it is him (or his camp) then take everything I said and flip it to Bruce's side and tell the AD to pull the rug.

There's only one side that I see has anything to gain by leaking this and it's not the admin

what? Sounds like the administration is leaking this stuff to pressure pearl into talking. I don't think Pearl is leaking this stuff to try and look like a victim. If he is, it's not going very well

I disagree. At least on the admin leaking stuff to pressure Pearl. I would agree that it's not going extremely well. It did get a lot of people emailing Leath at least

I went back and looked at that Schlabach story. It did just say sources but it said Pearl wasn't cooperating. That sounds like language coming from an admin source. Don't know don't care #SAVEBRUCE. Maybe it's why 2 support guys got put on timeout.

yeah. None of the articles seem to feature very favorable language for Bruce's situation. Sounds like the admin is leaking stuff to the media and Bruce is leaking stuff to donors/jhokes of the world.

I see no way it's coming from the Pearl side, which means it's coming from the admin side. Getting the college hoops world ranting about you refusing to cooperate with an internal investigation seems like hustling backwards. No way Pearl or anyone with his interests at heart puts this stuff out, it makes him look like a criminal when he's already got rep issues going way back.

And the AU side of things has a history of leaking to press to get their point across and try to beat the story to make themselves look good.

We saw the sun rise on another day where BRUCE PEARL was the coach at OBBERN University. It's a good day, my friend. Keep your head up.

How does some “just happen across” the James Madison Rivals board?

I wonder if an intense google search could lead you to this thread

Probably hit a key word on google and this place popped up. I use to google "DONNIEinCULLMAN" all the time and I ended up on a rifle association board. Yes, they were discussing DONNIE!
