Just have the feeling that Steele is being leaked to anger the fans, so we end up being happy with one of the Bills, Napier or Clark. Which I think both are good coaches, but probably won't excite as many people as Cristobal would

I may be in the minority, but I think Napier and Fickell are right there with Cristobal.
I also really like the possibilities with a guy like Tony Elliot from Clemson.
After those and maybe Freeze, I think there may be a decent drop off for my level of excitement for who I think we could get.
Only Muschamp would be below Steele (that I can think of)
Not going to worry or focus on who Auburn is hiring right now, still soaking up the fact i won't see Gus on the Auburn sidelines picking his nose while calling/not calling plays.
If we hired Steele, that would be three straight hires of a coordinator from the fired coach. I just can't wrap my head around us doing that again

I think I could get excited about Fickell because he is supposed to be an elite recruiter, I worry more about Napier being another Sumlin/Herman/Frost kind of guy. This is just pure gut feeling more than anything.
Napier, Cristobal, and Freeze would all be fine with me. And I wouldn't mind Bill Clark either. Everyone else is kind of meh
Absolutely. In my mind I want someone that is going to recruit at an elite level more so than I want a guy who has a great offense or defense. Obviously that isn't enough and is still a gamble, it's just where I'm at personally.

despite gus being a terrible recruiter, there is talent on this team to win big next season. Think Hugh Freeze can do that. Someone else is probably a better long term candidate though bc the roster is gonna need a rebuild
I want to believe that, but worried about the OL and DL. Especially the interior DL. Maybe some of these young guys step up, but that's the biggest hole. Can't beat bama/UGA/A&M if you can't stop the run.
I guess in theory a guy like Freeze might could put up enough points to outscore those guys, but it also depends on who leaves and who stays.
You're probably right about the interior DL. Wonder Truesdale and Newkirk will return since this year didn't count towards eligibility. If so, the team could be decent there. Think Wooden and Derick Hall are both legit. Handy looks good too. So idk.
The OL isn't as bad as people want to believe it is. And should get better. Part of it is just that Bo Nix is trash and has no competition at QB so he can run around like an asshole and never get benched.
Really high on Handy, especially since I think he can be both a run stopping and pass rushing end.
Disagree about the OL, pass protection isn't nearly as bad as run blocking. So Nix does sometimes leave the pocket when he shouldn't on pass plays, but we do not have a top tier OL when it comes to run blocking. That being said, you never know who will improve in the off-season. Plus we might just need one difference maker on the OL to feel better about the talent there. Maybe one of those JUCO guys has a great off-season or maybe we pick someone up. If Nix wasn't a dual threat guy I don't think we would have been able to run block at all this year. Fortunately they had to respect our WRs and the dual threat factor opened up some lanes.

Here is the latest list of candidates from someone who is well connected in the industry (no particular order).
It’s a very fluid situation. As of now the party lines are split.
Lane, Freeze, Cristobal, Napier, Sark - there is a lot of support for Cristobal and Napier. Some reluctance on the others due to past history, but they seem to be more willing to overlook some of that this time. Cristobal has a pretty hefty buyout of his own $8mil, which gives some additional heartburn.
Steele - yes, he has support from at least 2 of the major players who have called the shots in recent hires. There is major pushback from others on this one, but when you are the ones ponying up the majority of the $21ml your voice will at least be heard.
I personally would be happy with any of the first 5. I did get some info on Napier. what I was told is he will outwork anyone on that list. Players love him and he has all the right inroads/connections that are required for a job like this. The person I spoke with feels AU will be in way better shape with any of the first 5 starting day 1 vs. what we had. This person is not an AU fan, so he has no bias.

I’d bet a thousand dollars that Insidesource23 is Terry Henley. That’s his old number & he’s always been pretty much an insider. My old boss & best friend used to always tell me what Henley said through his FIL with the guarantee I wouldn’t spread it. Henley sent this to the FIL funeral a few months ago.
I don’t see enough talent right now but Boog U being JUCO U (transfer U) I could see us adding enough dudes that the magic of JH stadium could drag us to a dub over UGA and/ or Bama.
