Another big series this weekend. Hell, they're all big at this point. Someone pointed out on the bunker and I agree. The winner of this series stays in the regional host discussion; the loser is likely out of that picture.

Pitching matchups:

Casey Mize (8-2, 2.40 ERA) vs. Soph. RHP Drake Fellows (4-3, 3.62)
Tanner Burns (3-4, 2.62) vs. Junior RHP Patrick Raby (3-4, 2.41)
TBA vs. Fresh. Mason Hickman (7-1, 3.48)

Everyone’s era is so low. Miss the good ol days when towering bombs and scores in the 20s were the norm. Like my men’s softball squad.

The games took forever, but they sure were fun to watch. I wish they'd put a little more pop back in the bats, but it's better than it was a few years ago when they completely killed the bats.

I’m thinking we rest Mize the next couple of weekends in case we make the tourney.

I doubt that. We play @ top 5 ole Miss, and then finish with ranked lsu at home. If we win those series, we definitely host. We can rest him during the sec tourney.

11ks in 5 innings
Up to 12 in 6 now. Never seen anything like it. More like heard anything. Leather popping & all. I talked to BRUUUUCE earlier & wanted to tell him about us GREGORS, but he was with some folks & I didn't want to be THAT GUY. He was SO thin, and so tanned. I had to gather myself. Well deep ball by the commode doors as I was responding
CRAP

Not only does he K so many people which drives up pitch counts, but he still is efficient enough to go complete games

Was thinking about that earlier. He can throw 9 innings on 110 pitches and still tally 15 Ks. That’s impressive. He doesn’t draw a lot of contact. So to strike out that many and still keep the pitch count down, he has to be extremely efficient.

AU wins Game 2, 11-5.

Big series win. Would love to complete the sweep tomorrow

Yeah we are back in contention for a super regional with that W. That being said, I don't think we have the pitching to get out of a regional.

Big series win. Probably gonna take another strong offensive game tomorrow to get the sweep. Don’t know that we have the pitching to hold that Vandy offense down for a third straight game. That’s a scary bunch.

If our bats stay hot you never know

I’ve been thinking all year we didn’t have enough pitching and now @Slippin Jimmy is making me feel all warm and fuzzy acting like we might have a chance regardless!

Butch said after the game Mitchell will start tomorrow. He also said he isn’t moving Casey or Tanner up a day for the last two series, which starts on Thursday each week. So, who throws tomorrow will probably have an impact on Thursday. Plus, we have a Tuesday game this week, and we might be a little strapped for this weekend’s series.

They used their two best relief pitchers today. I predict a 22-17 type game tomorrow.

Yeah but their starter is decent so we need to knock him out early.

I'm typically big on not pulling pitchers if they aren't struggling but I think we need to pull Mitchell after 3 no matter what. Let Daniel come in at the beginning of the inning and ask him to get 3. Then go from there.

Really need Mitchell and Daniel and Coker to man the fvck up today and pitch well.

Mitchell had a really sharp first inning. Still you never know when/if the blowup is coming. He was 91-94 with the fastball, and the curve started to settle in near the end of the inning.

Yeah, he’s one of those guys that, as long as he’s in that groove, he’s great. But one hiccup could derail him at any time.

The difficulty with Mitchell is walking that fine line of knowing when he is done. If he gets 4 clean innings, you might have to give him the first hitter of the 5th but have someone ready immediately.

Yeah and I don't think Daniel handles coming into trouble well. That being said he hasn't given up a hit yet so you have to let him come out for the fourth (I originally said pull him after 3).

Mitchell has looked good so far. Would be great to get him to the 6th trouble free, but I think you have someone ready right now to relieve him if a guy reaches.

Did a good job to get out of the 5th. Jarvis made a web jem to keep the ball in the infield but then bobbled the ball and couldn't get the rubber. Mitchell balked and runner got to 2nd but Mitchell pitched out of it.

Venter goes yard while I was typing this. 2-0 AU.

Need to go ahead and knock this guy out of the game and get to their bullpen.

That bobble by Jarvis broke up Mitchell’s no hit bid. It was definitely a hit, but that was almost a great defensive play to keep the no-no alive.
