OT: The official The Greg health thread.

Running is an inefficient way to drop fat. Better to on an incline. Running is good for cardio but you burn carbs not fat. There is a heartbeat range where you burn more fat than carbs and it is lower than the cardio range. This is why you see fat runners or b-ball players. Lol

"When you exercise at low intensities, fat accounts for most of your energy expenditure. As your heart rate increases, you burn a higher percentage of carbohydrates. According to the American Council on Exercise, higher-intensity exercise will result in greater weight loss. It doesn't matter whether your body is burning carbohydrates or fat. In addition, a higher intensity will keep your metabolism elevated for longer, so you'll burn additional calories even after you stop exercising."

You wanna lose weight or drop fat??? Watch the body builders at the gym. They will walk in a steep incline. They aren’t running. Burn too many calories and your muscles then suffer.

Diet is the most important.

Cardio is fine if all you want to do is see the scale move. But if you are tryin my fine tune your body, I would stay in the fat burning mode. When you burn to many carbs your body will begin to break down muscle too etc.

This is part of the reason our guys are weak by the end of the football year. A, they don’t work out, B, they are burning too many calories.

My goal is to get stronger and drop fat at the same time. Or at least maintain. An intense cardio program will make that nearly impossible. You will get skinnier and weaker. And if you replace all those carbs, to stay strong, running is no benefit other than being in better overall shape.

I know a lot of chubby to fat folks that run all the time on the tread mill. They are still fat and chubby. Because even after all that running and shit they are eat the equal amount of calories lol.

Is a 134/99 a bad blood pressure rating?

What should I be doing about that?

Not stressed anymore than normal.

High blood pressure on both parents side

My grandfather died at 37 of heart attack

Yeah you need to start paying attention to blood pressure, cholesterol, etc... Gotta reduce foods that clog the arteries and got to get safe healthy exercise.

150/104

Gonna call my quack doctor Monday and set up an appt

haven't weighed myself in years, but Ive had to recently go on a shopping spree to buy some new pants. Just out grew the old pairs. Shirts are fine but have gotten about 2 inches bigger in the waste. Not sure if I'm willing to ride with this wave and accept it or start dieting working out to get back to my 160-170 range

This is me. Exactly.

I have stayed away from this thread because I was embarrassed to get in here, but knowing it was going on motivated me. I've dropped about 30# in the last two months & it hasn't been hard either. NOTHING WHITE except chicken & fish. recumbent bike about 4 days a week, plus 3-4 days/week swimming laps for 30 minutes. Curls, gut buster roller & "The Perfect Push Up" about 3 times per week. Eating my nightly treat of Trisciuts & FF Salsa before I snooze out. Thanks to all of GREGDOM for the encouragement

Well gang, I’ve lost 50 pounds since January. Feeling pretty good, I’m down to 215. Ran 6 miles yesterday. Tried Keto at one point, do not recommend. Works well but man did it make me feel like shit. Was only on it for like a week.
CONGRATS & glad this came back up. I’ve dropped over 50 since early May last year. 6’ 0” & been holding steady under 210 for 5 months now. I’ve lost weight like this before, but THIS TIME, I’ve changed my entire lifestyle. I’m actually telling folks I ain’t going back to keep the pressure on. Went to a cardiologist about a month ago & blew him away on the treadmill. Swimming, waking, light lifting & stationery bike 6 days/week. Obviously I’m proud of myself. DON’T HATE ON ME!!

I've been taking testosterone shots for about five years now, but I went without a shot for 13 days & had it checked. It has SOARED to 932.0. My recent blood tests had me at
Total cholesterol 116
Triglycerides 45
HDL 62
LDL 45
An older friend of mine is a top notch cardiologist an is more worried about my health than I am, and I thought I'd share this with everyone.

Random question but I rarely go to the doctor. Like, once a year at most. Do you just call up a cardiologist office and schedule an appointment? Some things going on where I woukdike to get it checked out just to be on the safe side.

For my insurance to pay, another doctor has to refer me to a cardiologist. And FTR, I didn't feel like anything was wrong. I just wanted to have the peace of mind.

June 1st I cut out carbs and soda. I drink two health shakes as meal replacements per day. I have one cheat meal per week. Down 36 lbs. going to continue this and add working out late October. Usually try to eat food for lunch but if I don’t my dinner is around 530.

Btw my cheat meal consists of one slab of ribs, one pork sandwich, Mac n cheese and fries. This is my dinner usually Wednesday nights.

Dude those #s are pretty good. I know they’re better than mine and I’ve been on statins since I was in college.

Sort of health related I did a TPI assessment today. For those that don’t know it’s a golf fitness test to compare you to pga tour level flexibility/ mobility, etc. got a 26 which is fuggin terrible. Highest is 36.

Actually I don’t think it was that bad think you basically fail if you aren’t quite where you need to be. Don’t be alarmed I’m still a scratch but not capable of making a tour quality swing without compensating. Hopefully motivate me to get in shape as I prepare for Sr PGA domination in the future.

I'm a lefty too (at least in golf), and I had a crazy dream last night I was playing in a Pro-Am with Tiger & my arm got ripped open & I only got in two swings. Of course I was using my 5-Iron cause I was just trying to keep it in play in front of the gallery. Tiger went all Charles Barkley off the tee. Damn melatonin.

Did roughly 1k miles on the stationary bike in May and June. Took July off for no good reason and I basically put all the weight I lost back on. Fuggin sucks getting older. Gotta get back into the workout habit again

I used to run my ass off, but I worry about things like knee replacement surgery when you get older. Running puts a lot of stress on your joints and I have heard knee replacement is a bitch.

Not exercising at all right now but plan to switch over to swimming. Puts much less stress on your body than running or even walking

Went to OBA at the end of July on a convention/boys getaway for five days. My hip came out of the socket the night before we came home & it was excruciating to say the least. Buddy drove me back, wife took me to local ER, & they couldn’t help. Sent me to Tupelo ER & they got it back in around midnight, so it had been out over 24 hours (tried to make me get in an ambulance & I scoffed). Went back two days later to see orthopedic, came home & did an upper body & swam laps the following day. Finished rehab Thursday, went back to orthopedic & was cleared. Never got off my program & chalked it up to another challenge conquered.
