Boogs v Bama

Or this hammer?

Rewatching on SEC Network right now folks. The and one Three from Bryce at the 12:05 mark started the run. Clam was hoppin

For a few minutes before that they answered every play we made, but we were playing great. Chuma had a nice @1 and then a cut for a dunk and I think Harper hit a crazy 3 with someone in his face but the lead didn't change. If we don't make those plays we might trail at some point there because they were playing well on O.

It was 55-52 and then you look up and it's 75-60 and Avery has to get a TO. Everyone was making plays in that run. Dunbar with a strip layup and an nice And1 himself. Couple of 3's by Dede. Bryce fouled on that 3. Chuma crushed them from the post a few times. It was gorgeous.

Because everyone expected a blowout with only 7 guys and with Kiem touching the floor. Rightttttt.

I'll say this, we were obviously shorthanded and without Stapha it seemed really bad. But if you just give the game away and are sure we're getting beat you've paid zero attention to both how bad they've been on the road this year and how good we've been after bad stuff happens to us.

Most resilient AU team I can remember. The just bounce back every time people say they can't. If you bet against this group because things look bleak you deserve to see a negative on that account balance the next morning.

Never said we’d lose. Didn’t think we’d do what we did.

Second leading scorer out
Best defender down low out
Horace is foul prone
Malik is as likely to get t’d up as he is a regular foul
Chuma (not a center) guarding Hall who has been a force lately.
Bryce not 100% yet guarding a lottery draft pick.

Playing the odds in this situation doesn’t qualify as “stupid”. The outlier was Avery Johnson being a bad coach. Dude had no idea what to do at any point last night.

I'm repeating my long held opinion that Avery Johnson is a terrible offensive coach. An opinion that goes back to watching my Mavs lose playoff games once teams took away a few things and he couldn't adapt.

He had no answers for our zone. They actually looked worse out of TO's than they did in the run of play. They consistently look stagnant and without a plan in the half court. And to make it worse he decided it was a great idea to pressure and trap Lil Marlo a lot and it burned him 9 times out of 10 or worse. He's a one man press break and he either does it himself or draws the defenders and makes the right pass to break it. Running two guys at him in the half court almost guaranteed us good looks. You can't trap dudes with that mix of handles and high IQ. They'll eat you alive. Yet Avery was doing it early and often, not just when they got down 20.

all those reasons make logical sense, but you are still ignoring them being a garbage road team basically 90% of the time. And you're ignoring the part where this team always answers after something bad happens. FBI and losing 2 studs...answered. Lose an exhibition game...answer. Drop a game to Temple...answer with a 14 game win streak. Drop a game @west vance...answer by crushing UGA in the 2nd half and getting a road win at Mizzou that week. Bryce gets hurt and we lose to A&M....answer with a road win at UGA without him and a huge win over UK the next week. Horrific half and worse injury in 1st half vs USCe and we play an insane half to get back in it and then torch bama a few days later minus Heron.

We just answer. There is no logical explanation for it. You can list out all the reasons it shouldn't happen and I get it. But this team is tough as nails, mentally can't be shaken and if you have to come to our house when we're wounded and just lost a game you are in trouble. Period. Thems just the facts. You see Malik as a probably negative and I see his swagger as part of what makes all this possible. We're irrationally confident sometimes and that's exactly what we need to be. You say that's a bad shot...I say that's AU basketball and it's in our DNA to be "that guy" taking that shot. Harper took 4-5 of them last night and I bet him make 3 of them. All of them sparked us and crushed them. It may not be by the book stuff, but its us and we're damn good.

Yeah that trap only worked one time and that's only because the ref randomly swallowed his whistle. It was definitely a foul, might have been an offensive foul, but it was definitely a foul.

So best case scenario is we drop game one in the SECT and then go on a tear in the tournament that matters with a chip on our shoulder.

That home crowd/venue is an extremely hard place to win at when the fans are fired up. Superior design. Probably the best decision Jay Jacobs ever had a say in. Well I guess Pearl too. But dang, our arena with a good team is pretty damn dreamy.

Horace must get better on the fouls but a couple on him seemed to be reallly ticky tacky IMO. I like Horace and was pulling for him all night. That Jam was redemption. Freaking A it was awesome!

Mac goes out with a season injury and Horace can still only control himself to get 16 minutes of pt.

I thought we were in big trouble when Horace and Dunbar opened the second half both picking up their 3rd fouls

And he was still impactful in only 16 minutes. If we could figure out how to get him to play without picking up the cheap fouls, it would be huge. I think he had 4 points, 5 boards, 3 blocks, and 3 steals.

I told friends at halftime that the key was no fouls for Horace the first 10 minutes of the second half. Kinda felt stupid after the game! No 5, Horace plays 16 minutes, Bryce goes 3-14 from 3....how much would I have wagered on Bams +18.5? All of it.

I feel like that’s the proper, socially acceptable, safe for mixed company, Encyclopedia Britannica version of my Urban Dictionary “Avery and everything about him and his team is trash” post from last night

we agree on everything, I just choose to get my point across with the gentle touch of a rapist
