Here it is. Another Blue Blood Dragon for our young Boog warriors to slay on their journey to minneapolis and to bang the princess.

My heart aches for young Chuma. Fingers and nuts crossed that his injury isn’t as serious as we fear, but the team must move on. Next man up, and that man is young man boy Sensitive Danjel. The spotlight is on you child. Don’t shy away from it. Step into it and drain that mother fuggin three.

Gonna be a huge team effort here, but I still love our confidence and our swagger

Boogs by 5 legggggoooooo

I'm a little worried about them getting their inside game working, but if the defensive effort and rebounding are there tomorrow afternoon we boog.

A huge takeaway from last night was not only how well the bench played (again) but how much "team ball" we played:

at this point, only gotta win 3 games... really, only have to win 1

and we can get by on adrenaline and make enough 3’s to beat anyone left in a 1 game situation

we’re gonna get killed on the boards... we’re gonna get roughed up on the perimeter and the refs have swallowed their whistles at this point (and that’s not a complaint, they let us play physical as shit with UNC’s guards last night and they weren’t tough enough to handle it), but Hagans and Herro will molest us for 40 minutes same as we will them... we’re not gonna hit 17 3’s because they are going to score in the paint enough to keep us from running as much as we’ve been able to run the last month

but... even without Chuma we have a deeper rotation... and a couple of their guys have played BIG minutes lately - especially Herro - and they’re starting to feel the cumulative effect from 3... Herro and Johnson aren’t shooting it well the last 2 weeks

Bryce vs Herro is the matchup we have to win decisively... Washington and Travis will get theirs - hopefully Austin can help offset that, and I like Danjel and Horace and Malik’s chances to compete in a rougher, more physical game than I do if we were facing a team with forwards that want to spread us out and drive... Danjel has been physical as shit all year - so if he can avoid foul trouble, he and Austin will be a different look than we’ve given UK so far this year

but Herro - and to a lesser extent Keldon Johnson - is the difference between whether they’re a pretty good offense who scores enough to win with defense, or a borderline great offense who is impossible to beat with their defense

Bryce wins that matchup and we live to Boog another day

Herro plays him to a stalemate and I don’t think we have enough

Herro gets loose on offense and scores 18+ and we get Boog’d out of the gym

I’ve got 29 hours to be convinced I’m wrong, and by tip off I’ll believe we’re about to hit 14 3’s and win it for the Dr, but this is the first game since the last UK game I thought we’d lose

It's a shame two SEC teams were stuck in the same region. I think this will be great game, and without having a dog in the fight, I'm looking forward to watching it. Though, it really is a shame the SEC is screwed again. Duke and North Carolina have never met in the NCAA. .. hmm.. .

In their entire history, they’ve never played each other in the tourney? That’s incredible really

It certainly is. Never doubt the ACC bias. The committee goes out of it's way to make sure Duke and Carolina could only meet in the title game. Almost always on opposite sides of the bracket. Never in the same region, ever. To a certain degree, the deck really is stacked. I'm hoping either boogs, UK, or Purdue wins it, in that order.

if not the Boogs, I hope UVA wins because that story from losing to a 16 seed to winning the title is great - and Tony Bennett and Kyle Guy handled all of that as best as possible, and better than anyone could have imagined

next is Texas Tech because they’re the least traditional school left and will upset the most people

a Texas Tech - Auburn Under Armour Invitational Title Game is the stuff nightmares are made of... TTU - UVA only slightly better

after that, gimme Gonzaga, Kentucky and then blow up the arena if it’s Purdue, Michigan State, or Duke

I only say Purdue because it's my friend's alma mater. Kentucky is because Cal seems like a decent guy. I think he genuinely has the good of the kids in mind, mostly, unlike K. And the boogs because you guys are due and I like Bruce. Texas Tech, Gonzaga, sure. Virginia. .. ACC keeps me from that. The other teams- fvck them.

Not feeling too hot about this one but then I remind myself this a squad that lost to UTrash twice down the stretch.

Obviously we can’t replace Dr C by any stretch but then again we don’t have to win by 20 like we have been. Danjel obviously gotta ball. Rest of the front court guys step up. Guards keep ballin Id actually expect Bryce/ Jared to play better than they did last night.

Only 2 teams I'd fear at all if we had healthy Chuma are UK and Duke. I think those defensive squads would get run by us right now. Great offense >> great defense in basketball IMO. I think Gonzaga is really good but I just think we'd Boog all over them in the 2nd half like we have pretty much everyone this month.

UK presents huge matchup problems, not just in the paint. Their guards size and physicality are tough on us. Duke just has a freak and he's gonna be a problem for anyone, plus other NBA level talents scattered all around and they have a ton of size. If we were healthy we're a top 3 team left in this thing. Unfortunately we're not healthy and we have to play one of the other top 3.

I think we have to do anything in our power to speed this game up. Press more, trap more, double the post and dare them to launch more 3's than they want to (hoping they go cold) and we have to push the ball even when it looks like they are back and setup. We can't compete in a conventional way vs this team without Chuma. We need chaos. I'm not completely sure all the ways to make that happen but that's what I think we have to do. If we try to match their size we're going to be playing something like Harp/Brown/Malik/Horace/Wiley. I don't think that's who we are. I think you small ball it, make everything crazy and go for every steal, every trap, every gamble and speed them up and hope they get off balance. On offense you move the ball a ton, get their bigs scrambling around the perimeter and hope you hit 3's and wear them down. Wear them down ought to be a key principle too. They had 3 guys over 34 minutes last night and played later than us. We had zero at that mark. Washington has been out and is going have to play on about 40 hours of rest after weeks of staying off that foot. I think we have to go full throttle and see if they can keep their legs.

I agree on Cal... love the guy

Coach K is all of the bad things people think Cal is... he’s the actual slimeball, or has at least given all of the people around him the green light to be as scummy as it takes... which, I’m not necessarily against, but I hate that he’s held up as some paragon of virtue and the shining beacon of light in an otherwise corrupt sport... makes me sick

anyway, Cal doesn’t get enough credit for how good of a coach he is, and the job he’s done with this team... they’re going to be a tougher out than UNC or Duke because he’s done a far far far better coaching job this year than Roy or K... he’s going to have a better gameplay tomorrow than anyone we’ve faced on this winning streak - his players are going to be better prepared - and they’re going to handle adversity and stick to the plan better than any of the others... Hagans isn’t going to hurt us scoring the ball, but he’s going to run the point of their defense and give them the best chance to defend us of anyone left in the tourney - and he’s going to keep them focused on offense... he’s the one point guard left who won’t be seduced into playing the way we want them to play on at least 1 end of the court

any other squad, we can speed up and make uncomfortable or bend them to our will on 1 end of the court, if not both... but that asshole is too smart, and too disciplined to do it - and it’s because Cal has coached the piss out of him and built him into that guy

but he’s just another glorified cheerleader who coaches streetball, so what do I know?

May have to play Malik at the 4 some and play zone when he's in. I don't think we can play 2 of our non-shooters at the same time.
I think we could maybe get away with Ho and Ant on the floor at the same time for like 10 mins. Austin probably gonna need to give us close to 20 mins. Can Danjel hold up on D for 25? Having Malik able to mix in at the 4 for a bit would definitely help.

Our PG play has been sensational and I expect them to do a decent job of getting into the lane. Reid Travis shouldn’t provide much resistance when he’s in. Ok my confidence is starting to build.

the biggest jolt of confidence I’ve received in the last 12 hours was about 45 minutes ago when I remembered Tony Barbee is on their staff...

and laughed at us on Twitter after the Clemson debacle last year...

between that and Dr Chuma, basketball gods are gonna bless us tomorrow

so let it be written, so let it be done

Our bigs have to not commit dumb fouls. If you want to contest the shot do it, but if you get stuck where the offensive player has the advantage go straight up and don't come down at them. Ant/Horace/Wiley all seem to do that a lot, can't resist the last second reach. And avoid the fouls 30 feet out helping on ball screens too. Danjel needs to be nuclear on offense and smart on defense He also has a tendency to pick up cheap, meaningless fouls.

some potential positives just to get the good mojo building

quick turnaround for PJ - how’s his foot feeling today? can he play 40 minutes at the pace we want to play (assuming we’re able to dictate the pace in any meaningful way)?

Malik and Samir and JVon have played well enough, for long enough, that it’s not a fluke anymore... can we get 20 points from them? 25?

Danjel is going to be fine offensively... he’ll keep the floor spaced and balanced and has been a more than willing passer the last month + and is more than quick enough to drive against close outs from Travis or a hobbled PJ, and is thicc enough to bully EJ

Jared and Bryce cold last night - people gonna see 17 made 3’s and think we’re due for a cold night, but we hit 17 with our 2 most explosive guys scoring in single digits

BRUCE as a motivator... no one I trust more to pick us up and have us ready on a quick turnaround, dealing with the adversity and the emotions

I’ve been sad for long enough... pouted and felt bad... but time to forget that - there’s plenty of time to be bummed for Chuma next week... we can win tomorrow

Fify.

With CHUMA, I don’t see another team ahead of us staying within 8-10 points of us. Just too much team confidence right now.

I agree with you. This team is playing with confidence and had an edge to them. I really believe we play well tomorrow. Will it be enough? Not sure, but I honestly believe Kentucky will have to play their best to win(with or without Chuma). Danjel isn’t Chuma, but he isn’t trash either. He’s been defending and rebounding great over the last month 1/2. He’s in shape and looks quicker than he did in December. Let’s be honest, if he’s open he’s going to knock them down. We have great shooters and he is one of them for sure.

Exactly. I'm always a bit amazed that Cal gets shit on, while K is exalted as a god of the sport. Not many people can, or want, to see that. And K has given plenty of examples of his fake bullshit. Remember him lecturing Brooks, of Oregon, a few years ago? Then he lied about it, when Brooks outed him to the media. And then there's Bruce. At Tennessee, his big offense was a cookout with recruits. A cookout. Lol. While Lance Thomas was getting $100,000 of free jewelry, and Zion is getting million dollar homes for his family.

I love, Cal. Always have liked him. He really cares for his players and it shows he’s genuine because of te relationships he has with all his former players. The always have his back and I’ve never heard a former player bad mouth him to my acknowledgement.

We can and will win this game tomorrow playing with emotion and momentum. Another max play for sports investors.

I am worried about a five day layoff and having to beat two more great teams next weekend without Chuma’s D and rebounding.

Here’s some heartfelt BS from an oulde dude who has been watching AU hoops since before most of you were born, sans Solly and Tulips.....I almost fell out of my chair when I saw Bilas ranking us at 14 of 16 after we beat the dogshit out of Kansas coming into this weekend. Can’t believe Andy Katz, who we know saw us live last night, would rank us 5th in the Elite Eight, after the drubbing of arguably one of the three best teams in the country, even if he considered no Chuma. We don’t ever get the breaks or respect as a “once in a whiler”! We also have had some shitty luck with our best teams in this tourney. We lost to Pervis and the Ville who won it all in 86. We lost to Keith Smart and his bastage Hoosier coach who won it all in 87. We lost to Boomer Sooner in 88 who had three NBA guys and lost in a Top 5 all time upset in the finals. We lost to Melo and Boehiem who won it all in 2003. 99 hurt me the most even though we didn’t lose to a champ or eventual finalist. We did run into an insane Schoonie Penn and Michael Redd though. Call me a homer, dumbass, ricecake, any damn thing you want. With 8 minutes and 9 seconds left in our game last night, there wasn’t anybody in the world who could convince me we weren’t going to cut em down in Minneapolis. If the basketball gods don’t bless Bruce and the boys and the Greggerz who deserve it, this one “what if”, will be 100000000x worse than any of those before. Let’s win this bitch for all those guys! And let’s win this for EJ and Mike Mithchell who missed this chance when only 32 teams made it. Win it for John Mengelt and all those oulde whites who balled out in the barn in slow motion. And most of all, win it for the good doctor Chuma!! WDE everybody.

TL;DR. Sux about Chuma, another bad tourney break for AU.

I think Purifoy is finally getting back to it. Having no Chuma hurts, but you guys have quality depth.
