+++++Boogs vs Kentucky Official Elite Eight Game Thread+++++

I’m worried about Danjel getting in foul trouble
Him and Austin. Austin could be more aggressive bc he knew his minutes were a backup role but now he’s gonna have to be smart.
Gah it’s so unfortunate about chuma. I don’t have confidence we can win without him. I hope this team proves me wrong. I had UNC and the best team in and UK number 2 and we destroyed UNC....but we had chuma. My heart hurts man

idk how I became so emotionally attached to someone I’ve never met - but the fact that it was Chuma is what’s had me so down

of all the guys, he’s the one that seems the most - idk the right word... but all of you know what I’m trying to say because it’s so obviously apparent

over the last few weeks he was finally asserting himself and putting it all together... we were gonna win the title and he was going to work himself into the lottery... and I’ve never been happier for an Auburn player

aside from CAM, I can’t think of a single Auburn athlete I’ve ever watched that would bum me out more to see them injured

but like I said earlier - there’s plenty of time for that down the road... now it’s time to take it out on Kentucky
He was our baby boy growing up right before our eyes. We all knew what he could be on day 1 and for it to happens to start this run...
What I’m trying to say is the Greg is a proud papa

Meh, it's Cal's buddy. We wonder what he brings to the table too. I guess when you're at Cal's level u can hire your friends.
Yeah but he sucks as a person. It wasn’t just that he lost while at AU. Toward the end he was just awful. I was a student at the time and knew some ppl that worked with the team. He wasn’t a good person imo.

He should be. I’d think 8 month recovery if he works hard at rehabbing it.
Could be quicker depending on the extent of any other damage. As we saw with Mac, his recover was well ahead of some estimates. Mac’s play was certainly impacted this year but he relied heavily on being an explosive quick jumper. Chuma’s game doesn’t rely on being explosive as much as it does being a very smooth guy for his size. Fingers crossed he can be ready to practice full or even play in November/December which would give him some time to acclimate and build toward being back to full speed by January.

Must focus on UK but Purdue and TTech look really really good.

meh - I understand why he’s on staff there and don’t have a problem with it... I even, to an extent, understand why he just quit trying at Auburn... he couldn’t get support from the administration to operate in the gray areas and had no chance to compete if he couldn’t do everything possible to attract talent - because he can’t coach for shit... so I get it - he was doomed to fail, realized it, and mailed it in

but when he laughed at us last year - laughed at a team that dug themselves out of the asteroid crater and smoldering dumpster fire he left behind... and, despite his best efforts to ruin the program in perpetuity, achieved something he could never in a million years have accomplished (and that’s not hyperbole)... and was down to 7 healthy scholarship players... and laughed at them because they got blown out?

then fvck that dude forever... that’s a level of petty and trash that explains everything about why he’s reduced to riding the coattails of some other guy instead of ever actually accomplishing anything of note on his own... and the basketball gods shall smite his lazy, incompetent, smug, mouthbreathing ass... and after they’re done, I shall fvck his widow on his grave and wipe my dick off on his tombstone
You’re like a Shakespeare for scoundrels and I love you for it.

Also your insight about our bigs creating more turnovers than other bigs was the most insightful thing I’ve ever read on an internet message board that came true. When Horace went all the way for the layup I immediately thought about that post.
I think my favorite play of yesterday was Malik getting a rebound down 5-2, dribbling behind the three point line and just nailing a three. Just a complete unnecessary move but Malik just shooting with no conscience

We talk about good Malik and bad Malik, but that was insane Malik. Loved it.

that was so damn "Bruce Pearl's Auburn"

That's a huge part of who we are. It's what he's built with this irrational confidence we have. Some people hate it when we have a few of those that we miss, because they don't understand that it's the spirit behind that play that leads us to being capable of Booging all over someone for those 18-4 type runs all the damn time. You don't get those run that often without a healthy dose of insane confidence and swagger.

We can go ahead and claim top 6 since two get eliminated today before our game tomorrow, I think that’s how it works
The Sexy Six. Naturally the HYG belong in that group. But they ain’t done yet. As long as the refs keep swallowing that whistle, Boogs gonna dance to Minny. Foul trouble is the only thing that can stop them against those pesky Cats.

Mine was the Bryce two hand jam. Second time my eyes got watery. First was my sweet Chuma’s final dribble as a boog.

I expect that irrational confidence to bleed over to the boog fan base, kinda like Bama fans yapping about applying the process in their daily lives. Next thing you know you’ll have boog fans walking into the ocean snatching toothy fish with their bare damn hands.

You think he will enter the draft with a torn ACL? Seems like not being able to workout for teams or do anything at the combine might hinder his draft status? I honesty don’t know how NBA teams treat injuries like this.

I get a little wordy... and hateful because I’m generally a misanthrope... but people don’t usually tell me to stfu - and people online are never bashful about telling someone to stfu - so I figure I’m doing ok at this whole messageboard thing so far... so thanks, my Boog brother

and I’ve gone off the deep end with this Boog team... but the more I dig into little shit like where our turnovers are coming from - the more convinced I am we’re gonna beat the piss outta these bluebloods... it’s little things that I think I’m seeing develop into trends - and invariably when I go to nerd out over it, the numbers seem to back it up, or at least don’t disprove them

that one leapt off the page comparing our bigs to UNC’s... steals/blocks from their guards/wings vs ours was 7-5 their favor... our bigs vs theirs ended up 9-2 in our favor... wasn’t the reason we won - but definitely helped us turn a close game into a blowout... and the block party we threw towards the middle of the second half basically nailed the coffin shut

don’t have anything for tomorrow - and it’s just too hard to account for Chuma’s loss and extrapolate Danjel and Austin’s season long numbers into anything meaningful for tomorrow... but I’m excited to watch it - and feel good about our chances

I’d love for him to come back, but I genuinely want the best for the young man, and I think that is probably going pro. He was the best player on the court against UNC, and one of the best in the tournament, and the injury only magnified coverage of his performance. He played an enormous role in the boogs’ biggest win in program history and will be a legend no matter what he decides this offseason. If the ACL tear will cause him to slip 10-15 spots, I’m sure he’ll consider getting an insurance policy and coming back for a chance to be a lottery pick, but I think his tourney performance cemented a first round pick as long as he’s expected to fully recover following surgery.

I don’t want that to be his last dribble, but I do want whatever is best for him for sure.

I was fully, 100% on board "get your ass into the draft Chuma" before his injury. That changes everything. If he had been a sure, season long fixture as a top 5-10 guy this wouldn't knock him out of the first and he may only fall a few spots, because at that level you are seen as a potential franchise player and teams will take that risk. There are going to be a slew long wing types who will get to show out during the combine stuff and who don't have to sweat a 6-9 month rehab. It's almost certain to knock him out of the 1st IMO. You don't want to go in the 2nd anyway. The odds are against you at that point even without an injury and teams are really impatient with their 2's. Best I saw him listed pre-injury was 23.. Guys behind him include PJ Washington, Cam Johnson, Brandon Clarke, Ashton Hagans and Naz Reid among others. Those are some dudes. And they get to go into this process injury free and workout for any team that wants to see them. It's gonna be really, really tough to stay in that 1st round.

Grab a big insurance policy. Come back as one of the top stories in CBB and a guy that now has huge name recognition and will get mega attention. If he's the same player in March he was this year he'll gain 15 spots from where he would have gone healthy in about 80 days. Right now I'm just hoping that when he does come back we can ease him in and he can be the Chuma we just watched by the time March rolls around. Anything less is a real travesty. But if he goes I pray some smart team grabs him in the late 1st area and is patient enough to let him get right.

I would be really surprised if he gets a 1st round grade now. He was shooting up draft boards, but he was not a consensus 1st round pick yet. Now, I would not think there is any way the evaluators can tell him he's a lock to go in the 1st round as a lot of teams are going to be hesitant to use their 1st round pick on a guy they haven't seen workout who won't be able to play again until after their season is started.

Well said but I must point out Naz Reid is a trash can compared to Dr C.

Wake up wake up. It’s game day you boner faces. I’ve convinced myself that it’s scientifically impossible to lose to the same team three times in one season. We got this. Guaranteed. Cut down the nets. Go ahead and call the old ladies to start weaving the banner. Cuz we going to the final four. Legggggoooooo

BRYCE and AUSTIN got this

rewatched the UNC game last night... Austin was pushing guys around like toddlers without even trying... if he got so much as a hip on a guy they were done - so much so that they just quit trying to even fight around him in the second half... Austin got position and they just conceded the ball to him

he also drew a couple of over the back call on Brooks and Maye in the first half - so either Roy told them to stop fouling and they stopped fighting, or Austin just took away their will on his own... regardless, either is a credit to Austin

we need him to do the same today... if he wants to catch the ball cleanly and finish strong around the rim, well that would be a welcome development... and if he wants to do that, AND, make his free throws, we can blitz this squad
