Non Boog specific COLLEGE HOOPS thread

Damn. Another coaching vacancy in the sec. Bama, A&M, Vandy and now Arkansas. Probably LSU too when it’s all said and done. Hopefully Bama gets spurned hard

bama is arguably the worst job on that list, though they will probably pay more than Vandy.
Yeah Arky and A&M will definitely get their preference before Bama imo. Bama probably willing to pay more than Vandy and who knows what’s gonna happen with LSU.

Hahahaha omg lolololol come to AU young buddy

Apparently he can still decide to stay at Bama if he wants to. But I gotta think that the odds are slim. If he wanted to consider that option then he’d have just waited to meet the new coach. I’d guess he’s gone

They lost Ingram too. Bama will have a sub .500 SEC team next year if Lewis leaves.

You would imagine, but you never know who they will bring in and what kind of grad transfers might join them. We may not be very good, because we may be very very young.

Hahahaha omg. Let Herb Jones declare for the draft with an agent and it’ll all be fantt

Sheesh what terrible life decisions these youngsters made by going to Bama. I suspect Herb Jones will be joining them in the portal shortly his NBA prospects been trashed worse than anyone. Him and Petty would be 1st rounders by now under BRUCE.

fvck Petty... do not want... he’d have the same Heron issues of not really helping a ton unless he’s scoring, and needing a lot of volume to score enough to help

Herb Jones should be able to sue Avery and BAMA for millions in lost wages, because what they’ve done with him is criminal... I doubt any of their kids would ever transfer to Boog because it would be hell on their families - but if he transferred, sat a year, lived in the gym with Steven to fix that broken jumper like Samir did, and Boog’d out in the 20/21 season, he’d be a lock first rounder

Pretty amazing that just a little under 2 years ago, Bama fans were at their peak. Had Collin Sexton and John Petty coming in, believe they were preseason top 25, and the Boogs had just been hit with the Chuck Person scandal. Fast forward two years, we’ve won two SEC titles, are in the sweet sixteen and their coach is fired and their best players are transferring. It just feels so good

some places just aren’t cut out for being a basketball school... the culture is poisoned

Would love to do that to the bam’s but I want Cooper more.

yeah - it’s why Herb Jones is a better fit... he’s a better defender and more natural fit off ball

Lewis could work with Steven for a year and have that jumper nice and wet to play off ball next to Sharife, but I’d still rather have Herb... if Tyrell Jones is as good as I expect, by the time he has a year under his belt he’ll be roughly equivalent to Lewis by 20/21 anyway

Bama seems to think they have hired That Matta and excited about it and think it's a home run hire.

Why? Seems live slightly above a meh hire, IMO

He has a pretty damn good resume that’s better than Bruce’s. The way he supposedly quit recruiting and let the osu roster decay at the end of his tenure would be a big yellow flag though

He was great until his final four years. Big drop off.

Not a bad hire by any means and better than Avery. But just not one that I'd get overly excited about as a Bama fan.

Uga offered Thad 3.2 a year last year for 5 years. He told them to pound sand. I would think bama is going to give him around 4 a year.

I’d have been a little rankled if they got Matta. Dude has pedigree. Pretty sure he used to pluck a ton of talent out of ATL/ GA. Also, maybe I’m misremembering but he may have directly ratted out BRUCE before procuring Aaron Craft. I mean in hindset if that did happen it made possible the best thing that ever happened to Boog U so in that sense I like him I guess.

Anyway, this Oats guy I can confidently play off as a dud despite a couple nice years at Buffalo.

the only thing I don’t like about the Oats hire is his teams play fast... he’s got no connections recruiting this area and will be dependent on the REC and Nike and BAMA machine to carry him there... I have no clue if he can actually coach offense or if he just inherited a good squad from Bobby Hurley and was able to mindlessly run those jabronis in the MAC off the court and won’t have the same success in the SEC

all in all, he strikes no fear into the heart of BRUCE, but I think he’s far more likely to succeed than some of the names that were being tossed around that could’ve carried on the long tradition of hideous, blindingly awful, offensive squads that BAMA has become known for

It's a lottery ticket hire. They aren't going to break the bank to land him. They aren't going to have to raise expectations through the roof like they would with Matta or Dawkins level hires. If it doesn't work they fire him in 4 seasons (probably have a new arena built or approved by then) and try to go from there.

His players love to play for him. Seems to run a more fun style of O than Avery. But he's got like almost no experience and the guy was teaching HS math classes 6 years ago. Nobody on earth knows how he will handle being a SEC level coach. What happens when he losses the first 2 games to Bruce and every booster is making his life miserable? How does he handle that part of the gig, cause I'm pretty certain there weren't many powerful Buffalo alums dialing him up at midnight to talk X's and O's or give their insight into who he should be recruiting. Welcome to crazy town Nate.
