Definitely a tournament team. Maybe even a 2nd weekend team. We all know Cal will have these Cats ready come March. Such is college basketball my brothers.

Only had a couple guys attack Denim in that thread. Not sure if its because the loss brought out a lot of newbs or if they are so russell'd by the loss that they didn't realize he posted it. They typically don't take too kind to having to share a seat on the blueblood train now.
it's really weird how the media fixation on this is completely with Wiseman, and somehow Penny's involvement has barely been mentioned. Kind of odd since this whole past fbi scandal had the media villainizing coaches and gunning for scalps. But here, no one is coming after Penny even when he was directly responsible for the infraction.
It is bizzaro. I couldn't believe he played another minute. Seems like a textbook case of a booster playing bagman. That can't really change when the booster becomes the head coach? Conspiracy theory time. Is Nike powerful enough to keep the Media off his back?
It's all pretty meh for me in general. I just assume any wins they accumulate during Penny's time there will be vacated later.
Just making sure I understand the story right. Penny was his EYBL coach and then when he got hired to be the HS coach of East Memphis that's when he paid the kid (or family) to move to East Memphis HS. That's bad all on it's own, then Penny gets the Memphis U gig and recruits the player he's already paid to move to play on his HS team. Like how is this not the worst pay for play thing we've had lately since its directly the coach to the player? This is directly involved with landing kids both at the HS level and then at the NCAA level. This isn't a shoe brand pushing a kid towards a group of schools and having a runner pay for it...this is a coach directly doing it himself to have a competitive advantage (may have started as a HS advantage but it quickly was both). I can't believe that it's gotten a big hand waive from all hoops media either.
You can want a kid like Wiseman to get to play ball and at the same time understand that he cannot play for Memphis. It's impossible to let him. He literally was paid by his coach, directly. That payment was made to allow him to make the move to come play HS ball for him and that lead to him playing college ball for him. How Penny hasn't been suspended indefinitely is crazy. His first act at Memphis HC should have been to say "hey I can't recruit or sign Wiseman...he's out for me due to previous actions". Except it feels like Memphis hired Penny mostly so he could deliver guys like this, maybe especially this kid.

Looking at Bama they play Furman on Monday. Then they play the Heels in the battle of Atlantis tourney where they’ll be at best the 2nd worst team in the field. Too bad our boogs didn’t get an invite but Bama staring at a 2-5 start to the season.

UF just got handed their second loss in 4 games. Failed to score over 60 again. I mean, what a trash club.
They have a couple good pieces but I’ve never been overly impressed with them or Mike White
In fairness it was @Uconn. Not the kind of place the boogs would lose, but still.
I'm enjoying their struggle but I'm also starting to get concerned that just playing them twice this season will hurt out RPI enough to drop us 2 seed lines. This must be what it felt like to be UF/UK back when Tony Barbee was here and our RPI was like 310 or something.

Haven't watched any Baylor games or anything, but just looked up davion mitchell's stats just for shits and gigs and he's not exactly lighting it up from a statistical perspective there.

I got about halfway through the CBS Bball podcast regarding it this morning. As we all know Gary Parrish is a yuge Memphis homer and even he said that this does open the door to the NCAA to begin actively investigating them for other violations as well. I'd assume the NCAA does do that if for no other reason than to save face after Memphis basically gave them double birds when they were informed they likely had an ineligible player yet played Wiseman. I doubt anything comes of it but the fact that Penny and the university didn't realize that what they did was a clear cut violation then they may have some other violations they didn't quite bury deep enough. Personally I don't care much about Memphis either way but it does seem they have been our main competition for a number of guys lately so I'm all for anything that dings them on the crootin trail.
Beating Memphis and Louisville before trouncing Zags would be a delight.
