My goodness this bama squad is tough to watch. Saw they were up 30-12 and thought I’d check them out while they weren’t looking like trash. Now it’s the half and they are only up 3 on a 2-5 Southern Miss.
They're playing a totally different style than what Avery had them playing so it's probably gonna take a bit to get them all up to speed. With that said, they also easily have one of the worst front court situations in the conference. If not the worst. Nate oats would bite his hand off to have Stretch and Jaylin williams start for them, and those two barely can get a minute for the HYGs
Oats feels like he could be their Lebo. Always thought Lebo was actually a good coach, just not a program builder at this level where you need a certain level of talent acquisition for your coaching to matter. At Buffalo you likely get similar talent to the rest of your conference so if you are excellent at maximizing that talent and have good offensive/defensive systems you will do very well. You can be the best coach in the league in the SEC and of your talent is bottom 4 there is simply no way to finish Top 4. I’m yet to see any signs that Oats can acquire enough talent. They could easily go something like 5-13 in the league this season, you gonna keep landing good transfers when that’s the product they see...and you play in that deadass airplane hanger?
Oats has to start landing players or they are going to be what AU was for 15 years pre-Pearl.
Yeah, I can't speak for his coaching acumen. I'm no hoops expert nor do I watch his teams often. But you're right that recruiting is the big question mark for him. I think bama fans got all excited when he landed Jhvon Quinnerly right off the bat. But he's whiffed big time on all their big high school targets since. Only gonna get rougher too if his team continues to struggle

He is basically running a Bruce knock off style IMO. He better land some talent and/or be really good at evaluating it. I’m not prepared to write him off yet, because I have more respect for people who understand the game should be played fast now. Though bama with that arena and that fanbase has to be one of the toughest places to win at.

I’ve watched a ton of non-Boog CBB so far this year and I haven’t seen a team I’d take over the HYGs on a neutral court
Everyone looks so unathletic I just feel sad for other fans that have to watch this trash while we enjoy the HYGs.
Remembering we were supposed to play @louisville this year and it fell through. Would have been pretty sweet.

I wish I could figure out how the Kenpom rankings work. We are up to #12, but can’t make the math work to justify Michigan State at #3 with 3 loses. I’ve watch most of their games and they are not a top 10 team in my eyes.
Forget all the deets but I think Kenpom uses preseason data up until like game 20. Michigan St projected #1 to start still factoring heavily into the Kenpom calc even though they’re clearly trash.
Just turned on this UVA/ Purdue game and can not believe how trash UVA looks my eyes hurt. Our deep chalk looks more imposing its outlandish this is considered a top club.

Haven’t looked at conference RPI but the SEC seems to have hurt itself with quite a few of these losses. Leaving the entire reputation of the league on our beloved Boogs. It’s okay, we have broad shoulders
