Official AU FB Spring Practice Thread

It's like these beat writers reach a certain age where they see their dreams of being nationally relevant starting to die while simultaneously realizing that they have no upward mobility at their current gig. So they just get bitter and snarky.

Only guys like Bmatt and Pmarsh really remain normal just because they love Boog athletics and it's kind of their dream job.

so true... when I was a brainless little boog I considered getting into sports writing/reporting... as disenchanted as I am today with boog sports - and college sports in general - and with the world at large, and how that is continuing to seep into professional sports - I would hate my fvcking life if my livelihood depended on covering this shit every single day

that’s just the people who are actually involved in the news you’re covering... it doesn’t even take into account the mouthbreathers consuming your product

I was still young, but wasn’t that team also pretty poorly constructed from a talent standpoint?

Talent wasn't that great on offense. Defense wasn't bad. Hell, we almost beat Tenn at home that year. Gabe Gross was the QB and I believe Michael Burks got injured that year as well.

Gabe pitched the ball to a UTe defender running the option and he took it like 60 plus yards for a TD. I was there. :(

I am probably wrong, memory is getting bad, but I thought that was QB Leard who had the ball taken from him by a UT defensive tackle who proceeded to rumble 70-80 yards for a TD.

Our freshman RB from Pensacola, Demontray Carter was running all over them on that drive only and then that (snit) happened.

I may have the game/season wrong but this was the year UT won it all with Tee Martin at QB--assuming my memory is not gone, yet.

My money is on you being 100% correct

My Man!! Thanks and I found a little snippet--:)
I have lost some bodily functions but my memory is not gone yet.

The first UT touchdown was the hardest to take as it was a 10 to 14 point swing. Auburn came out moving the ball with the outside option and Demontray Carter ripped off 70 quick yards on four carries, but he reinjured a sprained ankle on a 49-yard burst, which would be his last play of the game. Two plays later, on a Utah pass, Leard threw the ball to defensive end Shaun Lewis, who rumbled 90 yards for a score, breaking a tackle attempt by Burks on the way.

I actually thought it might have been Leard. Can't remember if Gabe started the game and Leard came in or if it was Leard the whole way.

Not surprising to anyone here, but Malik and Gatewood have apparently struggled throwing the ball in the scrimmages.

Malik threw pick-6s in each of the two scrimmages.

Gus brushed it off by saying MW is only a sophomore, implying he should have no idea how to throw a forward pass yet.

Meanwhile, Daddy Sabes continues to groom the former freshman stud pony who brought the Tide back in the natty against a Kirby Smart D.

And to think, we have at minimum, 3 years left of Gustav (IMO)

Ben was injured and Gabe replaced him.
That game stands out in my mind as I thought we would whip their asses and then snit happened.

That damn mess with the TN DT made me sick.
We come out roaring with Demontray running all over them--he is injured and then a 300 pound Vol goes 90 yards the other way.

Even with a freshman in for Ben, we should have won. Too many lost opportunities.

So much for my trip down misery lane.

Blaze ON, Tarp--Blaze ON!!

It was actually over 90 yards. I was in that south end zone where it happened. Gabe ended up finishing the game, but Ben might have started it. You are spot on as usual.

We only through to him out of the back field and never gave him any real shots at RB. At least they are being honest in what they are calling him I guess.

If Boobie and Asa’s ascension is real then it doesn’t hurt my feelings to find a way to get him on the field.

Malik Miller up the gut 28 times a game a la Peyton Barber. Very similar skill set. Might manage to squeak in 8 carries for Kam Martin so long as he never ever ever fumbles or even looks like he may possibly fumble.

That’d be tits with me but I’m of the opinion ole Malik isn’t in the plans.

Kam Martin to me is a change of pace guy

Guys, get ready for a season of Mediocre Miller getting 25 touches at 3.5-4.0 ypc against everyone not named UGA/Bama/LSU. He’s the vet who apparently blocks the least terribly. His 4.9 speed and lack of elite vision/agility notwithstanding.

As a change of pace, Gus will give about 5-6 carries per game to Kam Martin up the gut, and about 3-4 around the end in the Eli Stove role. No other backs will have a significant role.

If that doesn’t work, be ready to get a heavy dose of CHANDLER.

Never underestimate how delusional The Gus truly is.

Agree on the second part. Would love for you to be right on the first part. But he’s a vet and blocks the best (regardless of how marginal his abilities at actually “running” are), sooo...

I think people are really relying on Gus to pull through with a featured back like he always does, but who the fvck on that roster can even have Tre Mason 2012 success - barely eclipsing 1K yds?

Maybe this Boobie or Asa guy, but I cross Asa out because he's a true freshman - we all know how well they fit into a GM offense. So that comes down to a former 2A Quarterback... lulz
