Well really I'm saying that our ability to adjust the offense from year to year is garbage, but you're not wrong.
I say this with all sincerity, as arguably the biggest Auburn fan on here... I would question whether any parent who allows their son to sign with Auburn under Gus actually loves their kid and wants the best for their future.

Unless you're a solid (but not elite) RB that will only get drafted if you're made the workhorse in a run heavy offense that doesn't sub.

Once you become an adult you realize "over fandom" is queer as fvck.

2004 was the best thing that ever happened to me as a sports fan... I wasn’t a real adult then - and am barely one now - but it opened my eyes to how much energy I was wasting on something so contrived and meaningless

I still “love” college football, comparatively to the average person... but if I’m being honest, I want Auburn to do well because I have family connections that care way more than I do...

and because I know it makes bams miserable...

but mostly from a more abstract level, because I HATE inefficiency... and as a program we continually squander the rare resources we’ve been blessed with

I don’t know what “kind” of fan that makes me, but I’ll gladly let others carry the torch of “bigger” fan than me

Yeah 2004 played a part for me, but honestly 2010 was the real moment for me. I went through a lot to go to that game. That game was everything to me. Then we won and I felt no different. I enjoyed the heck out of it and that entire season, but like @Gran_Polla said nothing changed. I'm still fanatical in a lot of ways - which I think is one of the great things about sports - but I believe I was able to drop just below that level Polla was referring to.

I still have a good time and enjoy the moment, but once the game is over I really don't give a shit. Doesn't mean I am not a big Auburn fan, because I still consider myself a big fan. With that said, I'm not going to look up blocking stats from J.B. Grimes coaching career and bitch about him being the coach every day. I'm passed those days and thank god I am. I couldn't imagine being so upset over something so petty that I have no control over.

saw that. Sad stuff since I'm assuming it was really unexpected. But a great way to go. I hope to just die peacefully in my sleep.

I don’t know how peaceful that way is exactly. Had sleep paralysis on and off through out the years and your mind wakes you to let you know you have no air. You have to figure out what is the easiest orafice to try and start breathing out of. Then you start to slowly in take air until you have enough to move your body. Feels like you are getting a dime size then a penny size then a nickel size and so on amount of air and you have to just keep yourself from panicking until you can breath again. Hope dying in your sleep isn’t anything like that or give me a bullet to the head any day.

To everyone talking about their fandomship of auburn, outside of Liger, who graduated from Auburn University? If you didn’t, I don’t see how anyone could really be that big of a fan. I’d only watch pro sports outside of the postseason and championship in college if I didn’t graduate from Auburn. I told my father I wouldn’t have watched a second of cfb if I didn’t grow up in Birmingham. He looked at me like I was crazy. I’m just a b-ball guy. I’m there on Saturdays for the fun and college girls.

For me it was 2010. I spent my childhood hearing how we'd never win one again from the turds. Hearing family members bemoan that fact that we were a good program but that we were worthless without that NC. That we never would get there. Then 2004 happened and I started to wonder if I legit would never see AU football get to that peak. The turds hire Saban and he gets them another one in 2009 and I'm just giving up on hope that we'll ever get there to be honest. Then 2010 comes and we have the one man college football dominating machine. Everyone hates us, which makes it better, and we win it all.

The weird thing was, as fun as it was and as memorable as it is still, that moment didn't change my life in any monumental way. I didn't suddenly feel like a better person. It didn't give me more confidence. It was just a fun memory, like dozens of other sports events that didn't include a title in all honestly. Fulfilling in the moment, lots of fun, but not life altering like I had always for some stupid reason imagined it.

You grow up on it. Obsess over it. It's passed down from other family.

I got scholarship money to go elsewhere and though I took a few classes at AU, but my degrees don't say AU on them. I was going to AU games by the time I was 6 and there were many years through being 16 or so where I didn't miss a home game. Went to a dozen or so basketball games many years. Would drive a couple of hours to see AU football and basketball even when I was in college elsewhere. It's a cultural/family thing. My grandmother always wanted to talk AU football, always. It was what was discussed during all family events at some point. To this day AU sports and golf are about the only thing I can assure you my father and I will discuss when we are together or on the phone.

How does growing up on college athletics like that differ at all from someone growing up in NYC and being around Yankees or Mets fans their entire life? When you have no pro sports in the state, the fan ties go to college sports. It's communal. It's part of the culture of the state. It's no different than regional professional sports ties IMO.

I loved auburn football and basketball growing up, but I fell in love with Auburn when I went to school there. I’m not trying to be condescending in any way, was just trying to get a good answer like the one you provided.

The QB battle is gonna be really interesting once Stidham leaves. Will Zahn change the offense he’s currently running with Stidham to accommodate Willis or Gatewood, or does he like what he has now which would give Nix a chance to start? Not gonna shock me if Bo Nix is the starter in 2019

I didn't take it as condescending. Just had this discussion too many times on the boards. You can fall in love with a place a lot of different ways. I was in Auburn for work a couple of weeks ago and just get a different feeling driving into town. Have for as long as I can remember. Probably passed down by family and experiences.

Absolutely. My family bonds over auburn sports. Always have, always will.

The AU masses will insist on Nix and it will hopefully be the last QB Gus gets to ruin.

8-5

So George Pickens will more than likely end up a 5 star across the board before it's all said and done. Kobe Hudson is about to commit to Auburn who is easily a top 10 WR prospect in this class.

Jodi seems to be doing pretty good on the trail from my view.

I didn't attend Auburn, but my family has been going to games since we played in Columbus Georgia. When I was 3 i sat next to Bo's mother during the Texas game. I was in Rupp when Caylor hit a 3 against the Wildcats. I've also never lived in Germany, nor have I ever worked for BMW......guess what? I love BMW's.
Should I trade in my BMW since I technically have no affiliation with the company?

It was just a question, haha. You’ve been to some sweet games.
