Gus has recruited well the whole time he’s been here. It’s his on field decisions that have cost us games more than talent but if he gets that hail then he has zero excuse.
I see this myth is still alive and well. Gus recruits well at some positions, historically, and stacks positions to improve overall Crootin' Points. However, he's done a poor job of consistently recruiting needs and planning for the future.

I agree wholeheartedly, but this past class seemed to be far more balanced and the current one is shaping up that way as well

The man could teach a master class in how to procure a 2nd tier 4* athlete I give him that.

Tim Horton has gotten some very highly rated backs to AU. Hell, just this past class was 6.0 4 star and then two other 4 star backs. Pretty nice haul of talent

Please name the elite backs that Horton has hauled in. A blind kangaroo should be able to recruit 4 stars to this offense, what @L I G E R and I are concerned about is that many game changers are not even giving Gus/Horton a sniff.

Agreed. But he still recruites fairly well compared to past AU coaches and other programs that should do better than us. But you’re not wrong.

I will accept NUGGETS on this topic. Please let CORCH RICE know that I still think he's a mongoloid who'd be better without internets.
Oh man it was a 7 paged. And in another thread me and another guy were talking about LSU and I said I was expecting LSU to look like AU 2012. He comes in and proceeds to call me names for being stupid. He didn’t read and thought I said AU this year would be AU 2012. Of course, he gets called out for being stupid and I say there is a reason he won the BUNKERS WORST POSTER. He then says I’m a hypocrite for caring him names which me and others say that it was a title he earned. I then demanded an apology while emphasizing he was the BUNKERS WORST POSTER multiple times just to rustle him. He would t apologize. Lulz

Curtis Luper was trash. No idea how he’s been remembered as a good recruiter. Left Malzahn and Horton zero depth. Then Horton signed Cam Artis Payne and flipped Peyton Barber in a matter of two months. Both went on to become nfl backs. So Horton signed two nfl studs in two months which is more than Luper signed in his whole 4 years at AU. Dude sucked. Zahn signed Dyer. And he lucked into signing Mason after whiffing on a ton of other players. Then, when AU needed depth and to sign multiple RBs, Luper decides to put all his eggs into the Jovon Robinson basket, who everyone knew was an academic risk, and low and behold he doesn’t qualify. So AU didn’t sign a rb in 2012.

Only recruiters on those Chiz staffs worth a damn were Trooper and Jeff Grimes.

Curtis Luper was the primary recruiter (and discoverer) for Cam Fvcking Newton and was integral in us coming down to February with us being in the Top 2 with ALL THREE 5* RBs in the 2010 class.

We told Lache Seastrunk to fvck off otherwise we likely would have signed him and Dyer that year. That alone trumps anything you’re going to attempt to rebut with, so don’t waste energy typing it.

You have a very poor memory about Curtis Luper, one of the most valuable assistant coaches Auburn has ever had.

Lol at getting props for being top 2 in some kids recruitment. What a loser attitude

Gang, Chip Lindsey got AU to be 2nd choice for Justin Fields! Bossssssss

My god. You sound retarded

Cam Newton, Michael Dyer and Tre Mason signed LOIs with Auburn mostly because of him.

That’s 3 of the best Auburn players in history he was the primary recruiter for. One of which is the GOAT CFB player and the other was MVP of the natty as a true freshman.

I’d say that’s pretty good, MITS. Again, you’re barking up the wrong tree here.

your'e heavily reaching on two of those. Don't think he gets credit for dyer at all. And it's very big reach to say Cam signed because of him. Like I said, the facts are the facts. He was at AU for four years and left the cupboard absolutely bare so Tim had to clean up his mess by signing two studs in 2 months.

And Michael Dyer will and never should be remembered as one of hte best players in Auburn history. That's a joke

dude, you're the dipshit hyping second place finishes in recruiting like it was a great accomplishment. I guarantee if we dig in this thread you'd be on record calling Chip and Kodi burns losers for being second for Fields and Justin Ross.

You don’t seem to read well.

But yes, being in the Top 2 with all of the 5* RBs in a single recruiting year, especially when WE passed on one of them and SIGNED one of them, is noteworthy.

Luper got commitments from:

5* Newton (GOAT)
5* Dyer (BCS Natty MVP; Broke Bo’s fresh record)
5* Yeldon (flipped to Bama)
5* Robinson (grades casualty)
4* Mason (1,800+ yards; SECCG and BCS natty stud)
4* CAP (1,600+ yards in 2014)

And we told 5* Seastrunk to fvck off.

Even with the Yeldon and Robinson misses, he still brought us FIVE 1k+ rushing seasons from RBs and the GOAT college football player who is the only reason our current HC was ever considered to be our current HC in the first place.

A Tim Horton recruited RB did not start for Auburn until the 2015 season, 3* Peyton Barber.

Again, this argument is not going to end well for you.

Did you really just give him credit for Yeldon?

Yikes

I know. I think I'm being trolled.

Was he also responsible for CAP? I didn't think he was. Thought Zahn and Horton brought him in immediately. Thought Luper only had that injured kid committed who Horton dumped for Barber.

I still don't give Luper credit for Dyer either. That was all Zahn and the arkansas connection.

Just did the research and it looks like CAP was signed before Horton and Zahn took over. Was wrong on that. So kudos to Luper for landing him to help clean up the mess he created otherwise.

But Horton and Zahn did get Rudy Ford in that class who wound up being a baller/NFL player. Just at safety.

Tre Mason was #199 ranked 190lb 4 Star. If he was our only back now @L I G E R would be losing his shit. He’s using hindsight to make an argument.

Jovon was also #139 ranked 4star when he signed with Luper. He was a 5 Star when Horton signed him

Lol at counting Yeldon

I think the biggest problem at the RB position has been roster management over recruiting. Losing Jovon and Roc hurt us bad in 2016 because we thought we were pretty set at RB and lose both guys that summer and we didn’t go out and really fix it in 2017 class

2016 class we didn’t even sign a back we just lucked up with Kam Martin

2017 class sucked with only signing Devan Barret who was second choice over Tre Sermon

2018 class we got our top back.

2019 class seems to not be too promising.

Def room to improve.

Yeah. Losing Ric, Jovon, and Barber all in one offseason was something no coach could have prepared for. Kinda threw them back at stage one. Barrett clearly was a mid evaluation but Horton has got on everyone else imo. Proved a bunch of people wrong (including myself) with KJ being a boss

...point is, it sure would be great for someone to recruit some stud RB's every cycle. Don't understand why they have such a hard time bringing them into a true run first offense that has produced 1000+ yard rushed year after year.

We've had this problem since Tuberville off and on and its mind boggling.

We put two guys in the top 5 in the 2005 NFL draft and the best signee we got was Ben Tate in the aftermath (great player) until Michael Dyer.

The scheme does not explain why we aren't in on more top tier backs to me. Ohio State runs out of shotgun too.

Was Malik Miller the 2016 back? Thought we signed him that year. Although it’s orobably better to consider that as not signing one

I guess he counts even though there was all the “is he a H-back or RB” convo the entire recruitment

Well and we can’t ever have a FR ready to play either. It’s like oh they don’t know how to block for this rinky dink BS offense gmafb. It’s like the easiest position to play in competitive sports.

I’m just not pleased with our RB sitch and it’s been coming to a head for a while now. Crootin or corchin not sure what the issue it’s but it’s not good.
