I'm reading this contract a different way. There are a group of power brokers that wanted to push Gus out and for Steele to be given the HC job. I think that's still their plan and they need Steele to stay here for that to work.

Being AU football here's how this is going to work out. AU goes 7-5 next season, still struggles on offense vs any defense with a pulse and now the defense is not very good because we lost all our best players. Gus is canned and the people that wanted Steele continue to push for him but he's not hirable because the defense wasn't good and people start to mention that he was a terrible HC. But then we have to hire him because we don't want to pay $5 million more.

This makes perfect sense and is so depressing.

I thought Horton, Hamm and Stutts were all pretty obvious OGs. I will say I think they always planned on Tega being an OT so I will give him that one. Irregardless, numbers are extremely pathetic for a guy who hangs his hat on running the ball.

Not to bash the new coach, but when you have only recruited like 2 OTs in the past 4 years the depth chart speaks for itself and sells the school.

assuming fiscal concerns in a Covid world forces us to be stuck with him for another 2-3 years, I’ll be praying to all things holy this is a sign that Morris has at least some input on our overall offensive approach

the hope is that now there is finally a guy in the room that not only does Gus feel comfortable with...but actually respects on the offensive side of things. Before he had his boys but they were also guys I think he either looked down on or thought were too green to really make a call on anything. Morris is different.

But we won't really know if this can work until things go bad for a game or three. That's when we will see if Gus can really keep faith.

Wonder if they’ll even allow walk ons this season. Less chance for Gus to start some fat unathletic kid at HB if not.
