******Official Boog Recruiting Thread******

Not to mention uga has 2 guys that are in the running to get bumped to 5* and they expect to get commitments from possibly 3 or 4 more 5* kids and possibly 5 more high 4* kids. Insane classes by all our biggest rivals.

Auburn has multiple commits on the discussion for 5 stars and has the potential to close really strong. Which is pretty amazing considering the negative recruiting other teams are able to do on us right now.

Also, what's up with Cox getting kicked off the UGA team? That seems like a really big loss.

I am impressed with what our staff has done given the situation and what they have to recruit against.

You hate to lose anyone, but that’s one position among their LB core that is overly crowded with talent. He was a mental case and expected more than he had earned. Nolan Smith will be an all-Sec player before he leaves. They are 4 deep there with guys who will see significant playing time this year.

If we get Tank on Friday, we move up to #6 in the country (composite) and 4th in the SEC, behind only Bama/LSU/UGA.

But Ill never understand getting worked up being not many of points ahead or behind another team in the SEC and making a big deal about it

Exactly. Til we get a coach that proves he can consistently win, it doesn’t matter what number we are. Of course I’d still prefer to be first on paper.

I can’t believe I’m talking hut hut crootin while Gus is still employed, but it’s really more of a big picture thought so I’ll still be able to sleep tonight

anyhoo, the Clemson model always seemed achievable to me and the best way for the Boogs to compete... sign solid classes composed of mainly 4-5 year, program guys - and cheat your dicks off to sign a handful (2-4) of legit difference makers in each class

as long as you can identify the right guys to pay up for, you don’t need a top 5 class... you just need 5-6 guys on your roster good enough to win a game for you - preferably 1 being the QB, but a RB could have a similar impact

we won a title because, with Cam and Fairley, we had the best player on the field at all times every single game we played that season - and had enough good guys around them to maximize their talent... Clemson had that with Watson and parlayed it into the juggernaut they are now

Boogs could do something similar, but I have no reason to believe they will anytime soon

Agree the points don't matter. What matters is Gus not filling needs in advance so we don't have to bring in a JUCO/transfer guy the year we need him to play. OL is the best example of this.

With that said, I am excited to see the Farrar kid play. Dude looks like a beast. If he has above average speed he could be a serious compliment to Williams.

I don’t know who that is. Since you said opposite Williams I will assume he’s a WR. WR wouldn’t fit into what I’m talking about because we have recruited that position fairly well. I don’t have a problem with grabbing transfers or JUCO guys, it’s just having to rely on one because you waited until it was a need to recruit it. OL is the main position here, though QB has fallen into this situation before.

No I’m with you. My buddy always told me if you are counting on a bunch of JUCO kids to win games for you consistently you are in trouble. Bringing in a WR, OT, DB to fill a void or two until your young guys are ready is not a bad thing. The Farrar kid looks the part. 6-4 210 WR who originally was at OU, then JUCO then Youngstown State. He is supposed to be the fill for Slayton and have heard he can really run for a guy at that size. Read an article that said he has really picked up the offense since he arrived in June. I think we are in great shape at WR.

Considering the complex route tree at AU, that's saying something.

Latest feel from uga sources are that they now lead for the RB Evans and TE Washington and have pulled even with USCE for Burch. I did not think they were the leader for Evans after they got Milton, but seems like he prefers the 2 back system to save on wear and tear when he eventually goes to the NFL and he loves the OL that he could run behind. I figured they would get 1 of the 2 5* TE’s, but it looked like they were in better shape for Arik than Washington. Add any of those to their list of current 5*, + Ringo, + Jones and Romsey who are in the running to get bumped to 5* status and that puts them at 7-9 5* kids in one dang class. Good news is they have thrown in the towel on Tank which is a huge get for AU. Sounds like he was one of their top 5 RB’s on their big board.

this class is coming together nicely. Just hope it doesn't fall apart when Zahn totally zahns this season
Nice pickup. Caddy should be a huge upgrade on the trail from Timmy H but I still have this child marked as most likely to flip to one of our rivals on signing day. Keep my enthusiasm in check.

Gotta say though, I’m loving the Caddy and T Will shit. No idea what Caddy’s coaching acumen is but we all gotta love that there’s a few former Boog enthusiasts making real waves as coaches. I firmly am on the T Will is our Kirby band wagon. The just has it

Coaching RBis easy as shit. You need a recruiter in that spot. He got Tank who could possibly end up the number 1 running back in this class. He’s got the number 2 running back in the 2021 class. Caddy will get players.

Auburn win 9+ this year, then IMO Auburn will have the best back to back classes in history. I believe the 2021 class could compete for the number 1 spot “if” Malzahn can quit being a dickhead and run a real offense.

Lord please don’t let me start getting my hopes up again with the Idiot of Irving. Isn’t that where he was born? If true like I think, he’ll be going home for the game with the Ducks I guess.

As much as it pains me to admit my wrongness about him, you’ve gotta throw Kodi in that conversation as well.

Pay for top level QB, RB, OT, and DT.

yes... I’d add 1 CB every 2 years to the list as well

or, if you’re T-Rob and Muschamp you just identify and sign 3 studs every year regardless of star rating

Jamel Dean and Carlton Davis being NFL corners was the real key to that 2017 defense having as much success as they did. Really need to continue to emphasize that as long as Steele is here because of how much man he plays.

Davis had a similar affect to Carlos Rogers... it wasn’t just their coverage - but they tackled like maniacs in space... their ability to shutdown swing passes or help in run support and limit big plays - or limit a dumpoff on 2nd and 10 to a 1-2 yard gain instead of a 5 yard gain... someone way smarter than me can probably measure the value of those plays, but to me it’s an invaluable skill

those guys tackled better than most of our LB’s under Chiz and Ellis Johnson

I've already decided I don't like the McClaughlin kid though. This is going to be tough.

I know we have decided we don’t think this kid will work, but I do find it somewhat interesting that he has over 29 offers from most of the top schools in the country. Not to mention the eye of most of the scouts. Yet Rivals only has him ranked as a three star.

probably doesn't do their events

I don't think he's anything close to Sean White but we'll just have to wait and see I guess

They have similar size, arm strength and athleticism. What other physically talented metrics could we differentiate them on?

You two (I should also add myself ) were both wrong. SW was better year 1 than Nix had been. At least in the accuracy department

In other news, Boog QB recruit Bo Nix getting mixed reviews at the Elite 11 Finals.

“Not great arm strength”
“Questionable mechanics”
“6’1.5” and 190 lbs”

Once upon a time, someone here called him a rich man’s Sean White who’s being vastly overhyped because of who his dad is.
Preach

This is where I’m at. Kid is a slightly faster, slightly stronger-armed Sean White.

Won’t sniff a championship at AU, imo. If he wasn’t Pat’s son, our fanbase would be ambivalent towards him.

Hope I’m wrong.

Edit: In other news, we’re not even in Calvin Anderson’s Top Group.

#lolgrimes

Yes #lolgrimes indeed

So really haven't followed this much, but i see once again that Gus has deemed it necessary to take only one RB...when will he learn?

pretty overloaded at the position with talented young dudes to be fair
so one guy leaves to find playing time and 2 more get banged up, one becomes a WR and another is trying to add depth at S then your running attack looks like Malik Miller and a walk on. Just think you always need to take 2 per cycle.

We've got Boobee and DJ williams returning. Along with Shivers, Harold Joiner, and Mark Anthony Richards. Everyone one besides Boobee should be around for at least 2 more years. I think taking only 1 high quality back is okay

Just noticed Tank is the #1 RB on Rivals. I know he was at the top of uga’s list of backs they wanted and did everything they could to get him to flip. He is a STUD!

Hopefully we can flip Broderick Jones. They are feeling the heat big time on this one. They have a lot of OL talent on the team and have the highest rated class committed so far. They should hold on to most of them with the Luke hire, but they just flipped an OT from Penn State which makes me believe they think they will lose at least one. Let’s hope it’s Jones. He and Flax would be a very solid duo on the ends.

Agreed. Getting those two while keeping everyone else would fill our needs pretty damn well and be one of the better classes we’ve had. 2021 looks to be even better, but Gus still has time to Gus...

How’s our Oline recruiting going? WR? DLine? I can’t wade through the 800 posts on tbb.

I went to the auburnsports page and looked at our commitments, we have a bunch of 3 stars, nothing higher. Gonna be hard to convince me that we will have an OL capable of winning anything of note next year. I guess there's still time between now and signing day.

Will depend on if we can get Flax today and can flip Broderick. Those two can change the outlook at OT. They have high ceilings. Big athletic and can really move. All the JC linemen we have now look like projects to me. Sounds like folks are high on Hamm at OT.

Unless our new OC calls plays, which I don’t think will happen I don’t have much hope in general cause Gus gonna Gus. Probably better overall on offense with Bo’s growth, a healthy WR core and Tank and Boobie busting heads, but another 9-4 type of season likely because our Dline ain’t gonna be our Dline from this year.
