---------------Official Game Thread: Boogs vs MSU------------------------

Headed to the LSU game with an old college BUD, I told him I wanted to go to Starkvegas, back to UT game & then to Oxford. I’m only like 90 miles from both Missippi schools, but money has been tight this year. Thanks GUS, for keeping my pocket book in your thoughts.

Doesn’t get much more dumpsterfireish than 91 and 96 rushing yards against maybe the worst team the in the SEC and a middle of the pack C-USA squad.

Exactly. We had 225 total(because of a late drive) against Arkie who is the worst team in the SEC. The fact he says you aren’t paying attention is funny af.

I honestly don't know what to think. Gus is an idiot. Is it unfathomable that he went into the last two games thinking he could get by on talent and came in trying not to "give anything away" or something stupid like that? No, of course not. Are we an elite team? Obviously not. Could we be better than we have shown? Maybe. Just don't know what to think.

msu is a way bigger offensive dumpster fire than AU right now and Au has the best D taht they've faced easily. We'll see

Unless there are backbreaking turnovers that lead directly to TD's, this game finishes 9-6 in favor of Gussy I think. They stink. People that thought that MSU team could get 10 wins were as blind as Gus Sunshine Pumpers that believed he could make this offense elite. That's a 6-6 team over there.

This has to be the worst #8 team in the nation after 5 games I've seen. I hate to talk poorly about a group that includes this defense, but our offense is a complete dumpster fire. And the sad thing is that while we suck and should absolutely be dropped about 7 spots to 15 I'm not sure there are any good teams after that. We're garbage, but most of CFB looks like garbage to me right now. The bottom of the top 25 isn't even close to good. Wisconsin? Miami? NC State, Colorado or Texas? meh.

Surprisingly, Arkansas's defense hasn't been terrible. That doesn't excuse how bad we played on offense.

There big issues have been STs and offense

They had been giving up about 400 a game before us against a terribly weak schedule. Of course when your O is bad it wears on a defense. It will be a miracle if we don’t experience it at some point if we continue to play like we have the last two games on that side of the ball.

They had given up 400 yards only once this year and that was a game that the offense threw 6 INTs.

With that said, our offense is beyond terrible. We refuse to not run the ball up the middle when. We can't and Stidham refuses to sit or step up on the pocket.

It seems like Gus has pegged Asa Martin to fill the “Devan Barrett one swing pass per game and exit the field until you ultimately switch to defense because I’m actually retarded” role this year.

Nice knowing you, Asa. Sorry you signed up to play for such an unqualified, delusional imbecile.

I was referring to their average. But it was only 387 before us so I misspoke. They gave up 429 to Colorado St but I don’t see those turnover numbers.

Your thoughts on our O are dead on.

Was Roc Thomas the original holder of this position?

No. Roc Thomas got his chance to start his sophomore year and he did. Started over Jovon, Peyton, and a frosh KJ. But he was really ineffective, fumbled a bunch (almost lost AU the game against JSU), and just wasn’t that great

I thought Roc just got the one start. My memory is awful.

He did fine at JSU (6ypc, 13 TD, 244 receiving yards) and made an NFL team.

I'm also fairly certain his "fumblitis" is a myth that we disproved on the boog bored a few years back, but I'm not doing the research again. If I remember correctly it was driven by the folks who like to remember the incomplete forward pass as a fumble against 'bama.

Was thinking more of his freshman year, but you are correct he did start the season his sophomore year. Crazy that he's in the NFL now. Must have gotten much better coaching once he left AU. Guess that isn't surprising.

He made an Nfl team playing the position AU tried to move him to. He’s not nor was he an everydown back. He’s a slot receiver that gets a few carries

He averaged 14.4 carries a game (6ypc) at JSU. Sounds about right for his skillset. I'm not picking up what you're trying to throw down. You seem to be being negative on a kid that busted his ass at Obbern until he realized his coaching staff was garbage.

edit: the Vikings have him listed at RB, fwiw.

Not to defend Gus here, but both Arky and Southern Miss play smart defense and make you earn everything. Those are good defenses especially compared to their overall talent.

The problem is that in "good Gus" years those are exactly the kinds of defense that we overpower and just maul. We're fully incapable of that now. I'm not sure that says as much about our chances vs MSU/A&M as people think it does, but I'm pretty confident it means we're getting thrashed by our rivals at the end of the season. We aren't giving defenses anything to fear and so the talented ones are going to dictate everything to us, not the other way around.

Not sure about better coaching but he definitely got a chance to continue being the guy and get more developed. Not sure how many touches he’d have gotten as a slot guy at AU

Arkansas defense is weird. They have the #5 Rush Defense in the conference and the #3 ranked pass defense but they are 9th in conference play in Scoring Defense, giving up 2 more TD/game on average than AU.

Southern has a top 3 defense overall in the CUSA but is only about 8th or 9th on offense at the moment. Their DL gave our OL fits (even before injuries), and that's deeply troubling.

The thing is we probably should have got by on talent alone and that’s the scary thing.
