+++++Official New Mexico St. vs Boogs Tourney Game Thread+++++

Yep, I want Kansas. Northeastern beat Bama. And Bama......oh, yeah, we swept Bama. But it still stands. Give me Kansas.
I'd rather play NE, but we matchup reasonably well against either. Lawson will give us trouble if KU wins.

I keep thinking back to 2000...

Florida is a 5 seed, blows a lead against 12 seed Butler, Mike Miller hits a buzzer beater to win, Florida ends up playing in the title game

at this point in the season, nobody owes anyone any apologies for shit as long as you win... especially when we don’t have enough historical success to feel bad about how we won

I still don't feel okay about this one yet. That said, the tourney is different and teams fight for their lives to another level and stuff snowballs like crazy on you. Any one of 6 things go our way between 2 minutes and the 45 second mark of the game and we win by 10+, icing it away easily. All 6 go against us and we're suddenly in total lemonbooty mode and the refs start whiffing on calls where NMSU is trying to foul and it turns into a turnover and WTF just happened.

That's this tournament. You can't let up. You can't let it get going downhill on you late. It won't stop. The entire energy in these building goes to the comeback team, especially as an underdog.

I'll feel better tomorrow. My KU buddy keeps texting now. Gonna ignore him till the morning.

Damn. Our bench won the game

Pre bed-shitting hallucinations, Harper did his thing in the second half when we had to have it. But the quick sparks by Jvon and Wiley in the first half ultimately might’ve won it for us. Neither one of them has the cardio to go many more minutes than they are getting now but man are they coming up big lately.

I feel better about it now. Listening to Bruce talk about the 5 games in 8 days and how exhausted guys were late makes me feel a little better. I think that mental and physical fatigue led to the breakdowns late. My only concern about that is if 46 hours is enough time to rejuvenate fully so that it isn’t an issue at the end of the Kansas game, should it come to that.

They'll probably have more rest in the next 46 hours than they did in the 46 hours prior to today, with travel and everything.

@jeramye your keys to success we’re pretty accurate. We forced 16 turnovers, got killed on the boards 39-24, and shot 12-31 (38.7%) from 3. So that’s 2 of 3 (maybe only 1 of 3 if you had a certain number of turnovers necessary).

I think having the rest of today to catch their breath and then tomorrow to regroup should get them back into the right frame of mind. This was the dangerous game for us. I’m honestly pleased with how well we shot the ball and turned them over. Take the last 90 secs away and everyone would be feeling very satisfied about a workmanlike 10 point win. We haven’t collapsed like that all year and I see no reason to think it will happen again.

I agree. Harper’s offensive foul with 1:13 left was a big turning point. They were going to foul if they couldn’t get the trap. If Harper gives that up or at the very least doesn’t turn it over, we get fouled there with a minute to go, up 7, shooting free throws. If we’d make both FTs, we probably ice the game right there or at least give us enough cushion to not panic too much. That turnover led to a big 3 that turned the game upside and ratcheted up the pressure on us, which we didn’t handle well.

I think we have a wolf on our hands. We'll find out in December but his support of Bruce and attempts to engage with the students is already making me like him.

Lest we forget:

Eh, acts like your typical 40 year old happy AU won. I am fine with it, but don’t find it impressive or anything

Big time players step up in big time games... like I said, small sample size and more he played it would get better. Anyway, we were so much better than that team. Had a near Gus melt down but the Gods smiled on us today.

Don’t know if it’s been discussed but the ball going out on Samir that gave them the last shot was a foul on them. BUT it only happened because Mac didn’t box out.

He is a great back up option for Harper
