OT: 2019-20 boog hoops

Edit, already posted.

Hope J gets good advice and gets a combine invite. If he is not invited, I hope he considers coming back rather than playing overseas.

I like that rule. Pro player. I believe Mustapha also said he was definitely getting an agent, and didn’t, then continued to play intercollegiate athletics. You never know, but I wish SBJ the best and hope like hell that one day he’ll get his chance in the league.

I wish football was like this.

RistDownAU & Jeramye, thanks for the further explanation on the history and “terminology” on this board. One thing is for sure: you have some bonafide basketball junkies here!

On a side note, were you guys surprised by Harper’s decision? Personally, I thought he might leave but wouldn’t have been surprised had he decided to stay. He and Brown were fun to watch. Those two were my favorite players on your team. On our end, Washington declared today. I fully expect that Johnson and Herro and maybe Hagans will soon follow.

I figure this belongs here for next season. Ran into a guy in the airport a little earlier today & he is a Murray State fan, BUT he was here for the coaching association deal. He’s a financial advisor for college basketball corches (My guess would be an agent)
and told me these D1 guys are more than a fraternity, but not quite cult level. Told me ALL the wheeling & dealing for job changes & raises come through this convention which we already know. Anyways & asked him where we are with BRUCE, and he winks at me and softly says good. Talked for another 10 minutes & didn’t want to press the nice guy, but I say so you think we really good? He smiles & says “They take care of that guy down there & I really like Coach Pearl a lot”. So interpreted it how you will, but it really made me smile a lot.

So, I think I have this right about Jared’s declaration. He can hire an agent and go through the evaluation process. If he’s invited to the draft combine, he can go all the way through the draft and, if undrafted, return to school if he notifies the AD by 5:00PM the following Monday. If he isn’t invited to the combine, he has until May 29th to cut ties with the agent and return to school.

That said, it doesn’t sound like this is a “I’m going to weigh my options” tweet.

That's correct. Jhead said he's not coming back so it sounds like he will likely be heading overseas. That sucks, but playing for free with a chance to be an All American or Bob Cousy winner isn't a great option for everyone. He can go make money and I hope he does really well.

Now, let's get this Tucker dude signed up and enroll young Mr. Cooper in summer school. Bring those two dudes in and I think our back court could be better than this year when have J'von in the mix as well.

Nope, he's determined to go prove he can do this. I don't think he cares if the NBA tells him he has zero shot of getting drafted. He's gonna get a chance on some G league team and play with a massive chip on his shoulder and try to prove he belongs. If you really enter the process the previous year you likely are ready to jump ship after the next season and make it work.

Love that kid. Loved watching him play. I hope we don't miss him as much as I think we will.

He declared last year as well. I expected him to declare and go through the process again and try to get a combine invite. I had hoped he would leave the door open to return when he went undrafted. It appears he is heading overseas though instead which does suck.

One poster on the tbb said “great, now we can’t watch him miss 3-4 30 footers a game”

I am about to belittle this idiot

He’s probably being sarcastic but no one can get away with disparaging SBJ
Not going there now. Popped in this morning and someone was joking about him never being good enough to play in the NBA and I'm not here for those AU fans right now. In fact I'd rather be stuck in a room with UVA fans for 3 straight days and hear them gloat than listen to a single AU fan dismiss Jared or Bryce right now. I'll throw fists on this one.

G league guys get paid next to nothing. I guess you have a better shot at earning a roster spot in the NBA from there, but damn I hate to see a guy pass on a shot at being an All American to make 20 grand. I really hope he makes an NBA roster, but the history on 5'9" guys getting a shot is really bad. I'd rather see him sign with some team in Italy or China for a quarter mil or more and at least make some solid bank. He could easily end up making 7 figures over there which is a damn good living.

Make some decent coin for as long as you can and come back to finish your degree, possibly GA for Bruce. Wouldn't be the worst plan.

It's not great but they actually make 7k per month base with some incentives/bonus stuff and the season is only 5 months. so that's 35k in less than half a year.

I think, and this is just my guess based on watching some other guys try to make this work and following Mavericks prospects closely for a few years, he's gonna try to get to a NBA roster and if he can't he's going to go the G League route. If someone has a need and likes him he gets a quick call up in the middle of a season and you try to impress. At that point you become a target for not just that team but others as well.

If you play a couple of seasons and get nowhere you can head overseas. Some guys have played 3-4 years overseas, made more money and then gotten another G league run that led to a NBA contract. And

translation: i've done all i can at the boog and in the league...i'm out

It may not be this season, but I'm confident that he'll get a chance in the nba for decent amount of time. There's no doubt in my mind that he'll be able to score. His ability to defend is going to be his obvious problem. But if you need a bench pg to come and keep the rhythm and pace going then he'll get a chance

Someone convince me Jared can't play there while JJ Barea is still in the league and getting minutes. Same for Ish Smith and Yogi Ferrell. Yeah they have 2 inches on him, but I don't see that being the difference.

Isaiah Thomas had a huge season a few years ago and he's 5'9". What Harper needs is a shot in the right place.

It’s not your dream buddy.

Good for Jared. He’s the best Auburn point guard I’ve seen in my lifetime. I think he is making the right choice. With that said, I’ve got a good feeling about the PG position going forward.

Yea I’m not mad at him at all. I am guessing maybe he wants to ride out with his homeboys. Those 4 ballers made AU basketball what it is today. Time for the new crop of young studs to carry the torch. Good luck SBJ! We love you kid.

J Lee says as of 5pm today, Cooper is not planning to reclassify.

Interesting. I don't follow the NBA closely. I have followed J and Chuma on the various draft sites though and they don't give Jared a great shot of getting selected. Maybe he can kill it in the G league and a team will have a need and give him a shot mid season. Having Jared playing in the NBA would be enormous for both him (obviously) and our team. The one thing Bruce is missing right now are NBA guys he can point to as successful guys out of our program. Getting Jared there given his height would be a monumental success.

Agreed. If that's what he wants to do then more power to him. I just hope that he does not have his heart set on being drafted and then not be able to return when/if that doesn't occur. I assume Bruce is making sure he is getting good advice and he has a plan to go the FA route.
