OT: AUBURN BASKETBALL

The whole thing is a precaution. We don't know the Wiley's took any money or did anything wrong but people are quick to jump on them to blame. They actually don't think the Wiley's did take any money but there is reports they were going to recieve money from Chuck. Purifoy's family on the other hand very likely did take money and there is pretty good evidence of this. Which is why I said yesterday I would be surprised if we see him at all this season and maybe ever again. I think we will see Wiley eventually hopefully in a few months. To blame anybody other than Chuck is dumb

But for Wiley to play again for Auburn we are putting our trust in Auburn compliance to make it happen. McGlynn is good at his job and stood his ground in the Cam deal. Do the same for Wiley if no money changed hands. We need him by December or January.

There are lots of things that I was about to do in life but didn't. Should I be held accountable for all of those things? I just can't see the logic and rational in this line of reasoning.

This makes sense, BUT I think we could play devil's advocate here. If we actually don't know if they took money or not, and we withhold someone who didn't take money then aren't we unfairly hurting them?

The issue is if they can prove it was actually discussed been the family and CP. IF that is the case, then they have to make sure they have covered every avenue to prove that they never took money.

I can't fault Auburn for what they are doing, not in this specific situation.

Which is what I think will happen. There's still time.

maybe, but if it comes out the player or family did do something the entire team could be punished if said player is allowed to participate.

Devil's Advocate to you and not in anyway this is true, what if they could prove the discussions actually took place between the family and CP/the other guy?

That's very true. I can't fault Auburn compliance either UNLESS they let this thing drag out all season.

No doubt but if in 2 months it comes out they did and they have been playing then we just blew our chance of having a postseason because we played ineligible players. It's a sticky situation but Auburn is doing the right thing here to sit them for the time being.

What do you think the chances of what Bmatt said coming true (what Auburn is hoping for)?

Stretch Akingabola reclassifying to 2018 and being able to enroll in January (assuming and he is able to sign next week and he picks Auburn)

If they have that bare minimum of info then I agree with the decision. If the Wiley's have admitted off the record, then I'm good with it. If they are sitting there vehemently denying it, then I'm a little flustered. Maybe I give them too much credit though.

Interesting. That would be nice. We have a scholly no matter what so might as well. We're going to need depth back there. We're one injury away from disaster.

I'll be sitting behind the Auburn bench with a paper bag on my head. Feel free to stop by and say hello.

From what I understand is this kid very raw so even if that happens, we’re in trouble if he’s playing significant minutes.

Stretch would at least get us to 10 eligible scholarship players. Right now, depth is a bigger concern to me than the production of Wiley or Purifoy missing. We're an injury away from having a walk-on playing significant minutes, and we may already have to see a walk-on or two play minutes because of their absences.

I agree wholeheartedly that depth is more important, I’m just saying that this kid isn’t a instant starter/difference maker like Austin was.

Rivals called him possibly the most improved player in the country.

Full disclosure - my natural reaction and what @cookedw thinks are almost exactly the same. I'm a sunshine pumper at my heart of hearts.

All that being said, I thought I was reading a ricetake when I read this post.

If a discussion comes up regarding most improved players in the country over the past 12 months, it shouldn’t take long for
Babatunde Akingbola’s name to come up. At this time last year, the 6-foot-9, 220-pound center was still very raw as a prospect. While he still has plenty of room to grow, Akingbola now has better hands and is much smoother finishing around the rim, which is why he’s now ranked in the 2019 Rivals150 at No. 145.

What is Phillip marshal and others saying about them sitting tonight? Not much on the bunker.

in the "what we're hearing" bit they say that the door seems to be open for both players to return by conference play

Dang. If that's the case then at least we get them but I was hoping to have them way before.
