OT: AUBURN BASKETBALL

Pretty good overview of where the FBI thing stands with all the schools implicated:

https://www.azdesertswarm.com/baske...llin-sexton-alabama-auburn-louisville-Arizona

Looks like everyone has been held out so far. The kid probably implicated the most egregiously Brian Bowen, appears to be lawerying up as the FBI says he didn't know about the payments.

I'd like to think all the schools are working together to put pressure on the NCAA to let everyone play sooner than later.

Looks like Braxton Key got a knee injury last night. Nothing serious, but Bama will now be without another top player for a bit

I work with MMD's first cousin. She said she'll come if the money is right. MMD's daughter goes to Auburn too.
I was on board with her at first, but the more I think about it the more I think it would be a bad move. She would be brought in purely to help with the softball and womens basketball problems we have. Outside of that she isn't nearly as qualified as other candidates. We bring her in its cause we are worried about current affairs of Auburn athletics and not the future. Both should be considered when making this hire.

while my hope is that AU will hire an outsider with vision and has the willingness to bring in the talent and expertise to realize said vision, though i fear that we'll get stuck with some homer that still allow a handful of folks to continue meddling in the day to day affairs and AU stays stuck in neutral while everyone else continues to pass us by.

Those are not real problems. Easily expendable people doing bad things gets you some bad news on the scroller on ESPN 2 during the Toledo game on Thursday night. They are easy to move on from, show compliance toward, and start new again. I seriously doubt we're going to hire someone to fix two sports that if they went away altogether people would barely notice.

First question I have with a new AD is there anyway we can resecure the commitment of hulking young stud EJ MONTGOMERY? Would a new AD help here? How bout if we fire the girls bball coaches? Give his mom/ Dad a job? The kid is worth that much to Boog U.

Sounds like EJ coming back to AU ain't happening under any circumstances (from the way have read things)

Yes but that seemed to be because of gripes they have with the Athletic Dept or girls bball coaches not with BRUCE. Maybe you eliminate those issues and we have a shot. Maybe not. Worth exploring though.

Kid has gone silent and haven't seen anything with him talking with or visiting other schools.

Wait, we haven't offered his parents jobs yet? Amateur hour...

From the sound of it, this kid was looking for a reason to decommit (and was likely to do so anyway) and this presented him an easy out.

If the rumors are true, it baffles me why he didn't decommit a LOT earlier.

Again, if the rumors are true.

His sister being kidnapped by an Assistant Coach and it being covered up by Jay Jacobs is what you're referring to as the easy out? Or the Evil Chuck Person scenario presented the out and the decommitting a lot earlier because of his sister being kidnapped by an Assistant Coach and it being covered up by Jay Jacobs is what you're referring to?

The latter, yes

What type of nuggs are in the Deadline Update?
Rich Mcglynn being a douchebag canoe. Said meet with me or else by Friday (it's an abundance deadline. Not FBI or NCAA). Bruce lawyered up and they told him not to meet. Mcglynn is mad and might fire him for insubordination. Jay wrote the situation is "day to day".
Again, Auburn is its own worst enemy.

LOL, how does Rich McGlynn have the authority to fire a janitor, much less BRUCE? I appreciate what he did for the CAM situation but it might be best if he and OBBERN part ways. The Compliance Department's job is to provide plausible deniability. Nothing more, nothing less.

Lorda mercy. Have I told y’all how much I hate Boog U recently?

I am of the opinion that the deadline came from JJ, and not McGlynn. And JJ resigned that very day

Welp let’s see what kinda wolf Leath is. Sounded like yesterday he was handling it.
I think Bruce stays, but may be looking to move elsewhere after the season. No one has told me that, but it's a hunch. Seems too toxic of a relationship between him and the AD now unless Leath brings in someone to right the ship

Bruce may want to leave but I don’t think he’d have many if any suitors at all. He’s either stuck at AU or back to D2 ball

Yeah I can’t imagine anyone would hire him much less pay him close to what we pay. Guess he could just say F it don’t need the money.

It’s just crazy this whole sitch is 100% the fault of Auburn and not Bruce. Someone needs to tell Bruce to hang in there through the season. Should have a new AD and McGlynn canned by then.

How the fugg could someone like Mcglynn fire the Men’s b-ball Coach? JJ has zero power right now. Leath is the only one capable of such a power move. @Jay G. Tate sounds like he’s making shit up
He has sources. But he gets carried away with his own opinions that are wrong a lot of the time. His "day-to-day" line on the Bruce's situation just isn't true. If they were going to fire Bruce they would have done so Friday. McGlynn can't fire him, JJ can't fire him, Leath certainly could. But Leath isn't going to move on that and will let the new AD review our basketball situation and go from there.

This new AD hire is really big for the future of Auburn Athletics on many fronts.

If Bruce leaves or is fired, our basketball program is screwed. More screwed than what the NCAA could do to us. I compare it to shooting ourselves in the face out of fear that the NCAA will prick our finger. McGlynn is out for himself and his own reputation in the NCAA's eyes right now.

If he’s guilty in any way, I agree. If not, I think someone would take him.

It’s just speculation. I could be way off
It’s not like he’s coach cal or coach K. Bruce is a good coach, but if he gets tossed again for NCAA violations, then his baggage will outweigh his talent by a lot. He’ll be done coaching. Probably could be the next Dickie V though for espn

Sounds like he regurgitated info from the GREG and stuck one of those orange tags in the thread title. Then gets defensive when people have questions because he doesn't have any insight.
