OT: AUBURN BASKETBALL

This is the part I don't understand in all of this:

Also, why in the actual fugg would our AD be asking BRUCE to put anything on the record that could potentially be used by the FBI or NCAA. While BRUCE is wrapped up in this investigation, hopefully at the far, far fringes of it, his lawyers are right to tell him to STFU and our AD is dumber than even I thought they were if they're trying to put any pen to paper on the matter at the moment.

Feels like they're trying to set him up.

wait...just fugg'n wait. why the hell do this now? if they wanted the staff gone they could have done this as soon as the FBI released their indictments. This makes no fugg'n sense. Sumbody in the AD is stirring the pot.

So Bruce is in obvious insubordination and could be fired with cause but the AD is negotiating his buyout at the moment?

Well, maybe they're negotiating to give Bruce a huge pay day and job security as an apology for putting him through all of this.

In other news, the 'Uptick in chatter' thread that started this has been moved to the business and networking board.

I havent heard a peep about this from anyone that I think would know. All I can speak of is what I know and I know Bruce and the coaches are working hard, and getting ready for the season. There hasn't been any talk inside the staff about him possibly being fired. There's got to be more to this. Just from interacting and seeing Bruce, I just don't see him being a guy that refuses to cooperate or dares Auburn to do something. He just doesn't seem like that kind of person. Who knows though if someone has pissed him off somehow or it's possible he has been told to not talk by his lawyers and he is doing that. I don't know but you can't fire the guy a day or two before the season especially when it seems that we will get good news on at least one of the guys soon

For what reason though? What do they get out of that? Do they even give a crap about the basketball program being relevant?

Maybe JJ feels this basketball fiasco is the reason he was pushed out and wants to take Bruce down on his way out. I don't think there's any love lost between the two.

anyone want to give an executive summary of the thread that HOKE just started.

Jay Jacobs has resigned. It's fine. It can't get worse, right? Ha, you underestimate Auburn athletic department officials.

Auburn officials (led by Rich McGlynn) give BP and staff a deadline to interview. (That's a fact Mark Schlabach got wrong in his story. He reported no deadline was given. Incorrect. This makes it obvious the story was leaked by Auburn officials or Auburn lawyers. Good times.) The staff says no. THEY AREN'T REQUIRED TO INTERVIEW, KEEP IN MIND. Why would they? They have nothing to add to the Chuck Person saga, and they sure aren't going to admit to any wrongdoings happening in their program. So, Auburn officials are pissed. Cool. But is there anything to really be pissed about? Auburn wants to cover their ass, they want information, but BP and his staff aren't required to interview, and certainly don't have to interview right now. OK, so everybody take a deep breath. It's fine.

Nope. Let's flip the hell out, leak information to ESPN, and put our finger on the nuclear button that is firing BP. Because if that happens (not sure if BP would take a buyout and go quietly), you're going to have a ticked off BP that may very well sue Auburn, and if that happens, you'll have another sport with a fired coach, another sport with a lawsuit, and there's a good chance the NCAA comes knocking and says, "what the hell is going on down here? Let's take a look around." That sounds worst case, but that's very much a track we're on.

He's mostly just venting about the whole situation. Not much new info except for a Mark Schlabach angle. Schlabach reported earlier that there was no deadline set on Friday. According to JGT that is 100% false. So it sounds like the Auburn AD is the one leaking the info to Schlabach in an attempt to spin the perception of all of this in their favor, maybe put some heat on Bruce I guess.

Later on JGT seems to think this is a fight being picked by the university admin and that McGlynn and co. aren't totally at fault here.

Yeah that doesn’t really add up. I still think this was a poor attempt at bullying the staff into answering all their questions and they just keep doubling down. They are doing the typical compliance thing in “Let’s get ahead of all of this so we look proactive and like we attacked it aggressively”. Of course they’ve gone way too far

So putting a few different things together it sounds like:

-The FBI and DOJ told the schools to wait until the investigation is over to start their own
-Bruce's lawyers have said they have to wait until the investigation is over until Bruce will speak
-Bruce agreed he'll answer questions about the investigation once it is okay to do so
-Auburn said screw all of that, talk to us now or we'll fire you

Sprinkle some hayseed revenge in there to taste.

which law firm in Birmingham was handling the JJ/softball investigation and other AD investigations?

I’m just going to choose to believe it’s a bunch of filthy, good for nothing, jealous BAMMERS stirring the pot and trying to railroad BRUCE...

it’s not true, but nothing in this story makes sense, so that angle can definitely be worked into tomorrow’s story on “As The Barn Burns”

Has everybody figured out that there is more to this than just the Chuck stuff?

It would seem so with the way the university is acting, but I haven't even seen any rumors about what else might be out there.
