OT: AUBURN BASKETBALL

Cruisin the net for some bball nugs and I had a provocative idea. Should we invite GARY for some hoops talk?
I enjoy Gary's insights into AAU ball in the state of Georgia. Seems to know what he's talking about there. Doubt he'd be interested in coming over here though

Yeah he's an entirely different epersona when it comes to hoops. Big HEELS fan too. Suspect he'd pass on the invite but would be fun to get him over here.

What's everyone's thoughts on DANJEL?

DANJEL will be much improved this year... write off last year as a young guy not understanding how to defend without fouling and injury... check his game log to follow along

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/danjel-purifoy-1/gamelog/

he was the main cog in the offense early... the half court was running through him - pick & pops, different sets run with the primary focus of getting him the ball in either the short corner or moving towards the paint... he was playing aggressively too - look at the FTA (games of 10, 8, 7, 6, and 4 three times) and he was avg 17.5 pts on almost 11 shots/game through 9 games and had just gone for 27 twice in a row... he got in super early foul trouble in game 2 (both in the first 3 minutes if I remember correctly) and because he was so important to the offense, my educated guess is BRUCE preached the importance of DANJEL having to stay on the court... his defense was inconsistent but not godawful...

then - after we just beat the absolute dogshit out of CC - he gets in foul trouble 2 straight games against Mercer and Oklahoma... we get lucky to beat Mercer and beat OU in overtime... and following those 2 close escapes he just quit playing defense... again, I'm guessing that BRUCE made it abundantly clear that he had to play smarter because he was hurting the team not being on the court - but rather than play smarter he played more timid...

then you can write off everything after Ole Miss due to injury... he shouldn't have been playing... look at the FTA attempts from Ole Miss to Ole Miss (0 - 0 - 0 - 0 - 0 - 2 - 2 - 1)... over that same stretch he attempted 48 shots - and 42 were 3's... he couldn't move - wasn't healthy - and just floated between 3 point lines on both ends of the court... he shouldn't have been playing - throw out that entire stretch...

the last 7 games - 57 shot attempts, 35 3's... and he starts getting to the line a little more... his minutes and total shot attempts increase... so he's playing more - shooting more - driving more - rebounding more... he's a similar player and has similar usage to the non-conference season, he's just a little less effective against better competition - which is ok...

I expect him to be somewhere between the guy he was in non-conference and the guy he was the last 7 games... around 12-13 pts/night and a consistent floor stretcher who murders teams from the corner when they help onto Austin and Mustapha - and a dependable pick & pop guy in any 1/3 or 1/4 pick and rolls... he can play harder on defense because we're not dependent on his offense this year - and he'll have to play harder to stay on the court... that's all the motivation he'll need - and I expect it will have a freeing affect on him, because he can play with less pressure and less thinking...

long story short - DANJEL is gonna be just fine this year... I'm not worried about him at all

Excellent stuff. DANJELs D is still one of my biggest concerns but that's more a reflection of how good this squad should be.

Heard last night that we're planning on having Hagans in town again next weekend. That would be 2 visits in 4 weeks. Bruce gonna bring this one home gang.

So it has been discussed that Athlon has us 5th in the SEC and making the Dance.

Ran across Lindy's and they have us in 8th and the 1st SEC team out. They have us finishing 8th and have 7 teams dancing. They surpisingly have UGA 3rd and Miss St 7th. Also have Mizzou 6th.

But they did say this:

"Bruce Pearl's team may be the one regret ranking so far down the standings."

Our boy fade to black Blake Lovell wrote the Athlon piece, I believe, and he's been on the Boog Hype train for awhile.

are these projections available online or do I have to buy the mag?

Hagans and Christian Brown play on the same AAU squad. It'd be incredible to get them both

That would be ideal. Then add another stud wing and big from the list of studs BRUCE is in on for that class.

Gang, here are my projections for this season:

Points and rebounds prob a little high but I expect us to be about top 10 in the country in scoring.

I think Wiley averages a double-double. Something like 15 PPG 10 RPG. Agree with everything else though.

I think he'll have a dozen or so double doubles but as an average I don't think he can get there. The #s weren't adding up although a few guys could definitely have less than what I put.

If okeke winds up starting, I think he'll eat into Austin's rebounding numbers. Okeke will definitely a great more than 5 boards a game. I'm thinking he averages more boards than points per game

Yeah with so many long rebounds with the 3 ball I don't see Austin collecting significantly more than Okeke and some other guys. Although, could see Heron and Danjel down a tick defending further from the basket than last season.

I just think rebounding is gonna be Okeke's thing. My guess is his line is like 5ppg and 8rpg.

Did you whip this up in Excel just for us? Well done if so. Can I get a PIVOT TABLE as well?

He ends the article like a fifth grader ending his class presentation

But still good info on a lot of up and coming sec players
So in conclusion that's why my dog Max is my best friend. Any questions?

But yes BLAKE does a nice job bringing SEC bball content.

Another great day for AU bball info. Looks like the boogs sold out their season tix again.

Here's some shots from a recent bball video I know you'll enjoy. Loving the business cuts on AUSTIN and DANJEL.

I can't wait to see the video that tells the story of why they're playing ball in some dark, abandoned old factory. Hopefully it's some cross promotional thing where they're playing a pickup game with Mike and Frank from American Pickers
