OT: AUBURN BASKETBALL

So hearing probably no Austin tonight again. Hopefully back for UAB. We will need him for that one. It's not looking good for Danjel at all. He hasn't even been practicing the last few days. I'll be surprised if we ever see him play again.

I wonder if Austin isn't cleared by winter break if he's bound to head overseas?

Hate Boog U so much. They should have just played everyone the whole damn time but if they don’t have a plan for reinstatement they could have at least submitted something to the NCAA and get an official ruling on the matter.

It's a shit show. We have incompetent morons in charge making the decisions that have literally done every single thing wrong. Pretty sure I remember hearing the players could have payed the money back in the beginning and none of this would even be a story right now. But that would be an "admission of guilt". No shit they are guilty, everyone knew as soon as it came out they would be guilty. You pay the money back and in a week nobody has a second thought about it and our guys are playing. They are sitting on the end of the bench right now for God knows how long for a measly 19k. This shit makes me sick.

So let me get this straight. An assistant coach can pay a player/family thousands of dollars and if they get caught all is forgiven if they pay it back? I don't think that is how it works fellow barners.

Well if there was a brief, defined suspension that didn't impact our TOURNEY aspirations I would be ok with that.

I agree but the sting wasn't about the players. The FBI said from the start to leave the players out of it. 19k ain't enough to possibly ruin these kids careers. There's gotta be a way around it. Not to anyone's surprise Auburn has botched it

All isn't forgiven, but player eligibility can be restored after payback and some kind of suspension involving games missed. There may be a $$ level that you can go over that doesn't allow for that, but I know we've seen guys pay money back, sit X% of the season and then play.

The "not forgiven" part hits the school. The school still gets hit with whatever sanctions or probation it would have gotten hit with if the money had not been repaid. That's because the school is at least somewhat responsible for all of it's employees.

The system shouldn't punish the kids above all else, and right now that's what is happening with these kids. They are getting the shaft because of what adults did. Adult coaches that were supposed to be there to look out for them and guide them and adult parents who were supposed to be protecting their children and not trying to pocket some coin off them early. That's where I'm annoyed and I'm annoyed with AU for not taking an aggressive stance to help the kids out even if it meant we might be putting our neck out a bit. We're the school responsible for letting them get into this mess since we brought Chuck on board and didn't monitor what he was doing. We allowed him to commit the worst kind of cheating anyway...he didn't get caught paying kids to come to AU, he got caught preying on kids where he could make some extra dough from their potential after they were already signed here. @#$k that guy and @#$k Auburn for letting it play out this way. I'd rather have found out we were slipping recruits 200k on visits.

Unfortunately, that isn't how it works. NCAA rules were broken. How do we know Auburn has botched it. There is a lot of info that we don't know. You act like these are the only two players caught up in everything that are still being held out.

The NCAA is a trash organization. Potential future NCAA rulings down the line shouldn't be the only factor here and it seems it is. I'd like to just have the kids and their parents sign some documentation saying they didn't get any money, send that over to the NCAA and put them out on the court.

You think Auburn hasn't looked bad doing this? Haha alright Cook. I haven't acted like anything. A lot of players are wrapped up around the nation and a lot of those guys are playing. Ours aren't.

It's happened multiple times with football players. I think the NCAA calls the program SARS. It happened in the last few years at Bama.

So if you had to guess you think Wiley will still be cleared before conference play?

A lot of guys are not playing. One has already been deemed ineligible for the year. The players not playing hasn't looked bad to the outside world.

The Bruce/Leath crap has.

But we both want the same thing. Wiley and Purifoy back on the court.

Louisville really set a bad precedent for handling this sitch. They should have dug in now they got Pitino suing them for $40M. Their player was alleged to get $100k to go there though so obviously a whole nother level from our studs.

Just did a quick little bit of curiosity research this morning to see about that Latvian kid that some of us, including me, wanted.
MEnFUdt.jpg

Kind of had a bit of a rough start but has also put together some really nice games of late. Oh, and he hasn't missed a FT all season.

Rebounding has been ridic and came up huge yesterday. UAB was way up there and we outrebounded them.
Mac has obviously been huge, but this is also what you get when a willing rebounder replaces Danjel at the 4 too. Think Danjel averaged like 3 boards a game last season l. Pretty ass for any team’s starting PF

Even though his shot is slow and kind of ugly, Murray is shooting 47% from the 3. Really impressive. Teams are gonna have to start respecting that shot and maybe he can start dishing it to an open (hopefully) Austin when guys step out to defend him.

He’s a matchup problem. Most 4’s don’t want to guard all the way to the line even now in the age of Stretch 4’s. The leaner, better shooting 4’s he faces are no match for him on the glass. And he’s got absurd work rate and grind to his game. He’s gonna use eberybodl man trick in the book plus out work you and he’s got underrated hops and a wide body.

He’s pretty decent off the drive too. I kinda like his J from 3. I guess mostly cause it’s been going in but he kinda looks like he’s shooting a FT. People rather give it to him than deal with him in the paint.

it's kind of an ugly shot, but both he and even dunbar are better than three than Dunnans was, so it's an upgrade regardless. Wasn't expecting Murray to have range, but it's definitely a nice bonus.

It’s a bit like an old man set shot. Not a lot of jump in it, if any. Just looks casual.

I’m still not sure how good we can be consistently but you don’t want to play us on a day where

- Brown is hitting 3’s
- Murray is doing Murray things
- Heron is himself
- Harper of making good decisions.

Anyone want to summarize JGs thread on Austin?

The way I took is Auburn has been trying to get him reinstated for the past three weeks. They provided all the info to NCAA and the NCAA then requested additional info on a potential new issue they uncovered. Auburn has now provided that info and now just waiting for either Wiley being cleared/another request for info by NCAA/permanently ineligible.

All in the NCAA hands right now.

JGT still thinks he will play for us at some point.

Thanks. Assume nothing on Danjel.

Next question. Anyone want to go burn down NCAA HQ?
