OT: AUBURN BASKETBALL

Gotta admire and kind of laugh at this kid's passion for all things Boog sports. He's at like EVERY boog sporting event.

so, I know Bruce keeps his cards close to his vest when it comes to recruits but do you think AU takes anyone in this cycle or do they wait and take a big class in '19?

Yeah I didn't think it was his sister who was involved. Not that that really makes it any better. The person responsible is worse than Chuck in my book.

Pretty sure Brandi was the player involved with and “kidnapped” by the assistant coach. I think there was another player ( I believe Brandi’s roommate) who had a physical confrontation with the assistant coach as well.

Do colleges really go entire cycles without signing anyone? Is that normal for basketball?

it depends, this team has a lot of youngs so it just depends how many guys are leaving and how many guys are going to command play time next year.

We need to add a big for sure. Otherwise you have stuff like last night. Probably another wing too for depth. Although MALIK was a revelation for a few mins. He could still be decent. I'd like to land a grad tranny as well get to 12 scholly guys at least.

If shit doesn’t get resolved soon then it wouldn’t shock me if they don’t sign a single HS player in this class. Would be nice to but I think they were planning on only signing EJ and had already moved on to the 19 class. Now with all the uncertainty and shit it makes it hard to get back in on some kids that you’d quit talking to.

Would be nice to find another Tyler Harris type in the grad tranny realm

a grad transfer big is my hope...

Doughty takes Heron’s spot...
transfer takes the minutes slotted for EJ next year, and doesn’t tie up minutes for 19/20 and beyond...
allow BRUCE a year to go find us another front court stud to sign next year and replace EJ on the 19/20 roster...

it stings, but assuming Mac returns, we’ll be better next year than we are right now (minus Austin and Danjel)... I don’t want to sign a project to take EJ’s spot and tie up that scholly any longer than necessary unless he can make a definite impact next year

So, let’s assume for a minute Wiley returns for the SEC schedule. What does this team look like and how does he factor in? I’m on the boat that his addition makes us a bona fide NCAAT team. I know he had been practicing with the team a couple weeks ago. I assume that’s still happening.

Does he start immediately? Does his presence change how the offense functions? How does he affect the defensive schemes? How does he affect the rotations of the current players?

I certainly want him on the roster. I’m just curious in others’ thoughts on how he’s going to impact this team, positively and negatively (because I believe there will be some negative impact).

He's just gonna thoroughly abuse anyone down low. Get guys in foul trouble. Open up looks for all our shooters. I don't think we can really press or play man to man D like we like with him. I'd love our zone even more with Austin just parked under the goal though. I'd expect him to start fairly quickly.

yes... we’ve played more zone through 10 games than we played the first 3 years BRUCE was here... and I’m digging it

playing more zone with Austin won’t change much defensively and we’ll be even better offensively... we can play Mac and Horace more when we want to press and play more man, and also allow them to play as wild as they want and foul trouble won’t matter

we have 80 minutes to divvy up for the 4/5 spots...

Austin 20
Mac 20
Murray 20
Chuma 14
Horace 6

something like that as a baseline... you can easily bench Horace completely and only play him when Austin or Mac are in early foul trouble... or drop Murray to the mid teens if he’s just completely overmatched physically on any given night... if you need to push Austin up to 26 on a given night, or play Mac more at the 4 and bump him to the mid 20’s the minutes are there

Austin won’t come in and average 18 and 12... but he will feast for 20 minutes a night, and that will be plenty to push this team to another level

Mercer really pushed the turds last night, I thought they were gonna pull of the upset.

As an aside, really didn't expect Florida and Vandy to be the bottom of the SEC even at this point.

EDIT: I ask forgiveness for posting this in the wrong thread.

you are forgiven my child. don't expect Vandy and FLA to stay there once conference play starts...too much talent.

I think Wiley will allow us to run more pick-and-roll sets and definitely help clean up stuff around the basket on the offensive end. And I think he's a big help in the post defensively. Plus, the extra body to rotate will help mitigate the foul issues we seem to get into occasionally down low.

And speaking of the zone defense, we've been doing some interesting stuff out of our 1-3-1 look. Not a big fan our of 2-3. We seem to struggle with it, but that 1-3-1 has been really confusing teams. I don't think Wiley fits well with how we're currently playing the 1-3-1, but we could adjust it to him if he's in.
