OT: AUBURN BASKETBALL

I’m ready for an NCAA ruling even if it says both are ineligible, just so it’s out of the way, and we can get back to crootin
yeah. the uncertainty of it all has to be killer on the crootin trail. You just know that other coaches are telling these teens that Bruce won't be there next year and that the program is getting sanctions. Just look what happened with Ole Miss football. They named Luke the permanent coach and they still landed some studs even with the sanctions. Kids wanna know for sure that Bruce will be there.

Hopefully we’ll get some studs on campus for SEC play. Get through this, extend BRUCE, rebuild the staff in time to land some 2019 studs.

Just need to add a few depth pieces to a top 25 roster next season.

Got a love affair on our hands now and it’s beautiful.

Are we still in it Montgomery? Any other studs in 2018 class that he have a shot with?

Yeah. I’m not ready to move on without Austin though. Could be a really special season with him. It’s just such BS they can’t figure this out in a more timely manner.

How about a sizzling take from an oulde? This team IS better off without one of it’s two most talented players. It MAY end up being better off without both of them.

I understand the situation today. Vegas did too. But I still think this team has something that is growing right now and it may be special. Basically I just want to go on record saying I won’t be one of the guys screaming “.........if we had AW and DP” if we lose the second weekend of the tourney. We may be there because of at least part of it.

PS. As I typed that I found myself wanting to channel my inner Liferez and use italics, bold print, etc....

I dig. I think we could very well be at our best with Mac in there. Having one of the most physically dominant post presents in the game at our disposal could come in handy though.

That is absolutely reasonable. I just see teams all the time where a star is injured or out for some reason and teammates step up their games. I had us in the dance last year so obviously I need a reprieve. Just feeling like this group is better defensively and ready to share. DP had his moments rebounding but he was never going to play D. AW was probably ready to step up after his play vs big time competition since last season. Just pumping some sunshine on this dreary day!

the squad is solid no doubt, just don't think we can afford any injuries in the 2nd half of the season with out AW or DP

Definitely need Austin. The Murray St game is proof of that. But you can definitely argue that this team is better with Mac as the starter

Agree here. Love the team as is, but AW gives us that legit big body lowpost scorer that can demand a double team, leaving the backside open giving Mac and Spencer some easy board clean up/dunks. Having 3 bigmen just sounds so much better than 2.

Honestly, I don’t think we’re putting much of a priority on this 2018 recruiting class. Montgomery was the one we wanted, but that ship has sailed. And we’re so young, we’re probably better off not taking a big class this year and grabbing a grad transfer or two to go with Samir joining the squad. Plus, the 2019 and 2020 classes are loaded.

Depending on what happens with Wiley and Purifoy and if Heron leaves early, missing this 2018 class wouldn’t be a big issue as long as we have a great 2019 class.

Real talk it had to be tonight to play in Arizona in a close game and come cross country all the way to auburn. Not to mention we were obviously pumped for the game and played well.
Most definitely. Think they said that Uconn got to Auburn at like 5am on Saturday or something. AU is still the better team though. Those guys in comments seem to forget that AU beat them in Connecticut last year too. Really impressive to win a home and home regardless of the circumstances

damn. Just listened to yesterday's rundown. JGT really does have a lot of egg on his face after saying in the pre season that the team wasn't worth covering bc it was missing Austin and Danjel. He's still trying to be a hater about the team's success.

Haven't listened. What did he say?

Downplays the team’s best start in 20 years bc of the sos and then tries to act like the SEC gauntlet is impossible bc of a bunch of new coaches that he can’t even name. I think he’s trying to sound objective but it really sounds just lazy and ignorant

Lol. We are 4-1 against Top 100 RPI teams. 2 of those games were in a neutral site and one on the road. Doesn't include the win at Murray St.

All while missing two of our best players, a coach getting indicted, and the FBI mess.

Yea, nothing impressive at all to be 11-1.

Oh dear

How could he find the time with all the DMs and eating at VooDoo Wings?

I’m kinda with him. I’m still cautious of the team’s start. We’ve played some good team, and we’ve played several weak teams. We haven’t seen much adversity, and I’d like to think the Temple game would play out differently if we played them now. But we’re going to get challenged much more regularly in the SEC because I believe there are a bunch of good/great teams in the league this year.

IMO the depth in the post is an issue, and I think we could see some struggles against several teams in the SEC. Not sure we can keep up the rebounding efficiency in the SEC, which has been a big part of our success. I really don’t like the idea of having only 9 scholarship players available going into league play. And the demons of blowing double digits leads in the second half have still shown up, although we’ve managed to win those games.

Now, if Wiley is able to return, my concern significantly diminishes because he provides so much in the areas where I’m most concerned. He’d be such a huge addition to this squad. There just aren’t many cupcakes in the SEC right now, and with a lean squad and not a lot of size, I think we’re at a disadvantage to start. Doesn’t mean we can’t continue this run we’re on. I just think it’s going to be more difficult than some people think.

Sounds like the fat man is desperately trying to differentiate from the experts of the GREG.

THE OOC slate has been relatively trashy but 11-1 is legit. Some very solid wins. RPI don’t lie.

I’ve been watching a lot of hoops. We’ve got probably the best backcourt in the SEC. With Wiley we could win the lig. Without still very much in the bubble mix. Sure the SEC is the premiere hoops conference in the country but nobody is looking unbeatable.

Up to #26 in the NCAA RPI, #24 in the ESPN RPI
Not to get too far ahead but I expect us to vanquish Cornell with ease. Then a big time matchup at UT. They were projected 13th in the lig. They are extremely small throughout the roster. Got a couple 6’5 bulls that are tough to handle. Basically Desean Murrays on roids. Long story short we can beat them.

Then we play Ark another great RPI game but a team we matchup well with. 2-0 start would all but punch our ticket to the dance. Of course we could lose one or both but I bring it up just to point out how close we are to getting there.

I fvcking hate that douche. Still acts like a child and will never admit when he’s wrong.

Based on RPI and my opinions of the teams in the SEC, I put them in three categories in terms of winnability.

Should wins (games we should win): Ole Miss, Vandy, LSU

Toss-ups (games where we're fairly equal teams): Miss St, UGA, Bama, Mizzou, South Carolina

Probable losses (teams considered better than us/more talented than us): Kentucky, aTm, Arkansas, Tennessee, Florida

In the "should win" group, we play all three of them at home and only have to play one of them (Ole Miss) a second time on the road. I think we should win all four of those games. 4-0

In the "toss-ups" group, home-court advantage will probably play a big part here, and unfortunately, we have to travel to each of them while only getting three of them at home (UGA, Bama, South Carolina). I do feel like our style matches up well with a few teams in this group. So as much as home-court will matter, I think we can steal a game or two on the road based on the matchups against teams like Bama, UGA, and South Carolina. Miss St is long and big and wants to play a similar game to us. Same for Mizzou. I think they're tougher matchups for us on the road than the other three in this group. 4-5.

In the last group, we need to steal one or two from teams perceived to be better than us. All of the teams in this group are currently ranked except Florida, and I think Florida is a better team than they've shown so far this year. We play Kentucky, aTm, and Arkansas at home and travel to Tennessee, Florida, and Arkansas. I think we can win two of these games, whether it's one or two of the home matchups (which will be tough) or stealing the road game from Arkansas in the rematch after having played them once. All of these teams are similar to us in style, although aTm likes to play through their bigs more than just about anyone else in the league. 1-5.

In a one-off situation, there isn't a team on the schedule I don't think we can't beat, but looking at it from a whole schedule perspective, there are a lot of toss-up games out there. Let's hope we stay healthy, continue to defend and rebound well, and shoot the lights out the rest of the season.

Yes win those 4 and protect home court. Need to go 7-2 at home. UF has been a mess. They’ve really missed their big who will be back by the time we play them. Scar is a team we should sweep. TAMU and UK are the only 2 I see that could really overwhelm us with size.
