OT: AUBURN BASKETBALL

Yeah I'm wondering if he can even be that guy for us. I rather give it to Jared and let him go to work late in a ball game. I love when Staph just takes it to the rack but when it's crunch time he has a hard time getting around anyone and doesn't get great looks.

Feel like he needs to go to the high post or even get on the block more. He can bully guys. Right now most of what I've seen from him later in games is trying to be a Harper like guy starting everything out on the perimeter and beating guys off the dribble or making stepbacks. He needs to use that frame more IMO.

I wonder if he was trying to work on his off the dribble stuff to be more appealing to NBA teams and this is the end result. He's been a good player, but not efficient and not nearly what I expected this year. Hopefully we see him use the rest of his game more as the season progresses.

Yes one of the recent games he went to the block a couple times and was great there. When he's coming off a screen or handling on the break he's ridic. Great body control, knows how to draw contact at the rim and finish. That throw down against UT I didn't know he had that. But he's good for one push off foul a night when he's iso and settles for tough shots. He can hit those sometimes too but low percentage looks.

Not sure what this means but I don't like it and it seems to contradict where I thought we were at this point (From MIKE):

Pearl briefly discussed their status previewing the team’s game against Arkansas on Saturday.

"Still practicing," Pearl said. "Still enrolled for the second semester and still going through the process.”

Wiley and Purifoy were ruled out indefinitely on Nov. 2 before the team’s exhibition game against Barry and haven’t played this season. Pearl was asked if Auburn had declared the players ineligible in recent weeks — which would allow them to apply for reinstatement to the NCAA — but said that isn’t the case.

“No, no, they are still trying to certify their eligibility,” Pearl said.

We're taking less tough shots this year, which is a huge step up. He's going to take some and so is Harper and I'm okay with that. Just not a ton of them and also how bout we make the tough shots a 6/10 on the tough scale instead of 9/10.

I still think he's to some Wade in him. He's not going to overwhelm elite guys with his athletic ability, but it's also better than it seems to look. He's crafty as hell and that's not an insult. I want to see more of that crafty stuff in the post and in the midrange. He also needs to be a guy that you hate defending bc he gets to the line a ton. That's his path to efficiency IMO.

Is there a point where we start to wonder if players joining the team messes up chemistry? I mean it's been almost two months now where they aren't used to playing with Purifoy and Wiley. I know I'm being dumb here, but Bama brought back Key and got worse

I've definitely thought about that. Seems like minutes have been established

I think Purifoy could possibly disrupt chemistry, but Wiley I'm not sure would. He's a big guy, so his touches offensively won't necessarily hurt our offensive flow. If anything else he's a big body that we desperately need and while I love Spencer/Mac, Wiley has more of an offensive skill set than either.

Can someone fill me in on wiley? Why hasn't he played and how likely is it that we will see him on the court again?

Wiley frustrates me defensively more than offensively. Fouls too quickly and seems slow at times. But he's probably gotten better since last year

I think it’s a legitimate concern. I do think if handled the right way it won’t be an issue. If I’m Bruce I bring both of them back as the 10th and 11th guys in the rotation. Make them earn more PT. I think it screws everything up if we just insert them in the middle of the rotation immediately.

yeah. I'm not sure either just walk into the starting line up if they're suddenly deemed eligible. Danjel definitely doesn't in my mind. But Tuesday night and against Murray St proved that AU undoubtedly needs at least one more BIG player. It'd be really nice to have at least one of them bc it was pretty scary close to being a disaster when Murray got into foul trouble early on Tuesday.

I'm not worried about chemistry. Love what this squad is doing but the potential is so much higher with Austin and Danjel in the mix. Dunbar would be the only guy to really get left out of the rotation. None of our bigs can put together much more than 15 mins without foul trouble. There will probably be some injuries along the way. Hopefully none serious but there's gonna be nights guys aren't available most likely.

Man, I tell you I have thought the same thing. Team chemistry is one of those fluid things for sure and no one really knows what will happen until it is too late sometimes. I'll take my chances with BRUCE at the helm.

Honestly Dunbar is the one I worry could affect chemistry the most. Besides Spencer, he seems like the most emotional player, and I'd worry he wouldn't accept that type of decrease in minutes moreso than most other players. And that potential malcontent could be a bad thing. Or it may be fine. Dunbar may accept the new role with no problems, but I believe he's already had one slight dustup over PT around the time he was ejected from a game a few weeks ago.

Yeah. I agree on Dunbar being a potential malcontent but looking at the mins breakdown it wouldn't be that hard to slide Danjel in for 15ish mins a night and still get Dunbar some run. Jared and Davion combine for 47/gm. Bryce is playing 32/gm. We've got some garbage time mins that won't be used much in SEC play. Give Staph some run at the 2 and keep Bryce a little fresher.

I guess that's all good in theory but 11 is a lot of guys to keep happy. I kinda hate the thought of either Mac or Horace playing significantly less but that's just how much talent we'd have available.

The optimist in me doesn't think the reduction in minutes would impact team chemistry.

This just seems like the most team oriented Auburn team I have ever seen, and everyone is worried about getting the W more than what they individually do. Being able to add those 10 fouls would make the most impact, IMO.

Do we have an emergency PG option? Wasn't that something that was discussed earlier in the preseason?

He's the one I'd worry about, but I'm not sure he carries enough respect or influence to make that happen. Our problem a year ago was our malcontents were the guys that had been around awhile and were supposed to be leaders.

The worry I'd have about chemistry would be those guys coming back, minutes changing and a bad spell of play. Lose a couple of games we shouldn't with all that going on and things can change fast. Suddenly guys who were happy with roles are trying to do too much or want to do too much.

Yeah, those extra fouls is what I want Wiley back for most of all. Plus, he brings a lot of other positives to the team on both ends and at the very least nullifies the biggest weakness.

His mom took money from Chuck, doubt we see him in Orange & Blue again.

Has something new come out? In the indictments, Purifoy's mom was the one caught taking money and Person was only caught alleging to the fake Advisor that he gave the Wiley's money (never caught actually giving them money)

Yeah, that's the ticket.

I can see it with Purifoy, but I think the need for another big body with legit offensive game in the post outweighs the potential negatives with Wiley.

I believe this info was provided by Greg insiders. They probably had to admit to the FBI if they actually received money even if they could have kept it from the NCAA. Even if they got money I don’t see why there isn’t a path for reinstatement this season.

Cook, i'm still looking for the post, but it was shocking and infuriating to read. I figured that family would have known better, and would have just waited for Austin to enter the draft...but i guess we're all human.

If you find it let me know, because I never saw that.

Had another dream that AW came in after a Bruce timeout in the first half against Arkansas. I think it’s a sign.

here is one but i'm pretty sure i read it somewhere else first. Also have no clue how trustworthy AU 65's info is.

I think he was making a bad assumption. But I don't buy anything he says after he started talking about his sources he has in like 24 different states and then going on and on about how he talks with Jay and Leath.

I think he makes everything up. He was completely wrong on his Jacobs "info", if you want to call it that.
