OT: AUBURN BASKETBALL

I think @Denim Vest mentioned this, but Harper and Heron are a combined 7-35 from 3 in SEC play. According to Sports Reference, Heron has the worst win share per 40 minutes of any player on our roster who is receiving minutes. He's just not done anything well in SEC play to this point. With his minutes and usage %, we have to get more from him.

Hopefully Staph snaps out of it soon and gets on track. Would be really helpful so we don't have to rely so heavily on Brown's 3-point shooting.

He's been pretty bad lately and I think it's because he's not letting the game come to him. He's forcing things that simply aren't there. He may be doing these things to get noticed by some NBA scouts, but man he's far from a NBA player right now. He needs to come back another year for his sake.

Yeah I’m looking at Staphs #s and he’s playing the same game as last year. Same # of shots and shot distribution. He hit 43% from 3 last year in SEC play. His shot has just been off. I’d like to see him make better decisions on the drive. Better passes. Maybe take a few less shots if he’s not feeling it. His TOs are up too.

I just looked at his SEC stats. He's only been blanked out from 3 in 4 out of the 5 sec games so far. That's nuts

Kinda explains him driving the ball so much last night. Looked like he was trying to draw contact and get to the FT line.

His shooting woes from 3 are similar to Bryce last year without some of the volume that Bryce put up, but he just has more to his game to help him stay on the score sheet most of the time. Unfortunately for him, he wasn’t hitting jumpers or drawing fouls last night.

I'm way ahead of myself, but I'm really curious how minutes would be divided next season if both Heron and Austin are on the roster. I also don't know how you keep Chuma off the court either.

Season (wish I had conference only) Box Plus/Minus numbers, in order of total BPM:

Mac: 2.9 OBPM, 10.8 DBPM
Spencer: 1.1 OBPM, 9.4 DBPM
Okeke: 5.1 OBPM, 2.8 DBPM
Murray: 3.9 OBPM, 3.8 DBPM
Harper: 5.5 OBPM, -0.8 DBPM
Brown: 5.2 OBPM, -0.9 DBPM
Mitchell: 1.8 OBPM, -1.0 DBPM
Heron: 0.9 OBPM, -0.2 DBPM
Dunbar: 0.7 OBPM, -0.3 DBPM

Surprising to see Bryce’s DBPM number considering how much Bruce hypes up his D

Bryce doesn’t rebound much, partly because of his position and I think what he’s asked to do in the system defensively. So, besides in ball defending, he’s not going to have some of the other numbers to help his BPM like Mac with his blocks and boards.

BTA posted this article on the boog. I don’t love how all that sounds.

I saw that this morning. Strikes me as more click bait stuff than anything of real substance. I think if Bruce was gonna get fired, then he’d already be fired. If they fire him after the season, then it makes the administration look pretty dumb imo

It’s definitely a weird power move by Leath. I agree with B-ball Booster dude. It’s literally a press conference to introduce the new AD and Leath felt the urge to remind everyone that he’s ultimately the guy in charge
Not sure what he was trying to accomplish really. Poorly done from any PR angle. Doesn’t help internally I’m sure. Maybe a shot across the bow to Pearl and his legal team to compel them to be more cooperative now that a new AD is in? I’m struggling to see the positive for Leath here and that makes it look like a dumb slip.

My mom's up visiting me and is mad as hell about this. Said if Leath doesn't think the pitchforks won't be coming out if Bruce gets fired, then he's lost his damn mind. She loves her some Bruce.

Dude needs to spend a semester at the BRUCE school of PR. How fuggin hard is it to just say you support him and everyone is working on it.

just comes across as super small time ego shit. If he knew that he would be taking the podium and fielding questions, then he absolutely had to have been prepared that someone was gonna ask him about the bball team and bruce. So he should have been able to have a way diplomatic and savvy response ready in his pocket. Boog U had a moment to be in the spotlight for hiring their new AD, and instead the Prez re chums the waters for the FBI scandal. It's honestly amazing that he did it.

I ASSumed that he may have been asked a leading question by a reporter. Even so, he certainly could have taken the Gus route and just given a pat "coach-speak" answer.

The fact that he didn't leads me to believe that he's trying to make a "chess" move and setting the stage, believing the immediate damage will be offset by preparing the masses for the potential, highly possible peppering that may be coming.

Unfortunately, information is likely to eventually come out that will explain some of the actions that seem somewhat perplexing to many who are only looking at the surface of this thing right now. I just hope that we can muster another round of mature, intelligent and creative problem solving, with TRUE leadership at the forefront so that we can find a way to navigate everything while doing what's best for Auburn, and allowing us to keep CBP. That is indeed a VERY tall order, but it can be done.
