OT: AUBURN BASKETBALL

#13 in the Coaches Poll. SMDH

Latest ESPN bracket here with boogs as #2 seed in East. I have penciled in our boogs beating #15 Penn, #7 Nevada, #3 Ohio State, #5 Florida in root to the Final Four. Boogs beat #2 Michigan State in the semis, before losing a heart breaker in the championship game against #1 seed Purdue. All in all, not a bad run.

LOL @ losing to fvcking Purdue. #ChampsBaby

I'll not buy that we are better without Austin until we are cutting down the nets in San Antonio. Are we better than if we trotted Austin out there for 25 mins a night? Perhaps. To have him available every night is a definite upgrade though.

Danjel is so sensitive but I suspect he's a much better player now than what we saw last year like most of our boogs.

Speaking of Danjel, at what point do we get a little worried he may not even be cleared for next year? At least we know for sure that Wiley would play next year if he comes back, but hearing nothing on Danjel seems worrisome

and hurt!
and scared of contact after 2 early season games where the team went to shit because he was in early foul trouble!

those filthy pre-conference play, trigger happy refs who call all the shit they never call after December... and that rotten, good for nothing Saiz, debacled Danjel’s entire season...

the biggest tragedy in all of this is that Danjel has been robbed of the chance to show everyone how good he is and shut them the fvck up once and for all...

Austin is still a projected 1st round pick... he hasn’t really “lost” anything - other than a legit chance at a title, and we all share in that loss...

Danjel has been FVCKED by this whole thing

Gottlieb makes an interesting point about Wiley. Wiley probably does limit us in ways on both ends that the current rotation doesn’t. But Wiley also brings a few things to the rotation that no one else really possesses. He has a legit post game offensively and is a big bodied rim protector that rebounds well. We’d definitely benefit from having him on the roster, although had he come back this season we probably would’ve seen some struggles offensively while we adjusted to his presence in the lineup.

Wiley is a currently a top 5 talent at his position in all of college basketball imo. He would instantly improve any roster if he was added in.

That may be true, but I have no idea what people are basing that on. We haven't seen him play a college game in almost a year, and he was up and down in the FIBA U19 this summer in his appearances. That's not a knock on him as I'd love to have him on this roster. He's a great talent, but I just don't know that he's in that category of player right now.

We've gotten abused down low a few times even in wins. Horace and Mac provide almost zero post game. Mac is miraculously hitting some 3s so that's nice. Hard to quantify how much better we are on D with their quickness relative to Austin. Of course, we could just park Austin in that zone for 15 mins. Makes no difference when we're just raining 3s, forcing TOs, hitting the offensive glass, etc but Austin is such a stud lets not kid ourselves.

No doubt he'd help us, and I'd love to have him on this roster. But I think, like Gottlieb says, we'd have to alter some of what we do offensively and defensively to fit into what Austin can do. The guys we're currently running don't need much altering because they all fit in the same mold pretty well. Austin would be an outlier, but he's an outlier I wish we had on the bench and had to go through the trouble of figuring out how to make things work with him involved.

If Mac can continue to make a 3 here and there to where teams respect him more from beyond the arc that would def open up the lane a lot more for our guards.

The crazy thing is that I was 100% convinced before the season started that we would need Wiley much, much more than we'd need Purifoy. I mean it was a no doubter for me. After seeing us play for a few months now I'm not so sure.

Purifoy could easily be better defensively and I didn't think he was some kind of ball stopping guy with a ton of terrible shots either. I just think he got too comfortable with taking too many 3's instead of driving but that was most of the roster TBH. His style of play fits what we've been doing a lot better than what Wiley brings to the table. If he stepped up the defensive effort and found his role he might be really good for us considering how we are playing. I'd much rather have him out there getting minutes than Dunbar I think. His ceiling is sooooooo much higher.
