OT: AUBURN BASKETBALL

If this was Gus at the helm i'd be more worried that we missed our "once every 4-5 year" window, but Bruce will have these guys back in fighting shape for years to come.
Hell this team has already won as many conference games as the last 2 combined. I'm going to enjoy the rest of these games no matter what, once Saturday is in the books it's a fresh slate. Guys have to rest up, focus, execute and have fun. I just want to see these guys boog a few more times.

Gang I have entered a deep depression. The pre-season loss of our two studs combined with the injury to Anfernee has cost us a season that could have ended with a deep tourney run. Everything this team has accomplished is special, and it will still be one of the best AU teams of all time BUT it could have been more. Someone talk me off the ledge.

Guys, i need to group source some EA here.
What are your thoughts on the construction of future Bruce teams? The conference seems to be getting bigger and longer on the whole. AU is obviously undersized this year but do you see Bruce pushing for more size or do you think he'll continue to value athleticism in many cases over length? Even our 3's and 4's are giving up a lot of size. How do you imagine this team looks in 3 years?

(don't care who is playing as long as they're handsome)

yes but the outlook on this club next year and BRUCE long term make it easier to swallow. I don't know if this season is possible without that fat imbecile being exiled. Of course I wish we had Danjel and Austin now and it all never happened but can't wallow in it. Did lead to Bryce and Mac becoming stars and playing with so much heart as a team.

This squad is extremely small. Everyone keeps saying it cause its true. I'll take athleticism, skill and sex appeal over size all day and so will Bruce. Teams will look the same just maybe more length at every position if we can get the same skill level. Little more depth obviously. Hasn't really been an issue all year till that rotten TV Teddy fouled out all 3 of our front court beauties.

That's true, we would still have Chuck running the D if it wasn't for the FBI. Baby Pearl may be a stud just like daddy.

Did we have three people foul out last night? I guess I stopped paying attention, thought only Horace did

I think Bruce can still win in this league with his style of play as long as we have the depth to prevent big dropoffs if we have injuries. Smallish, athletic, versatile bigs is probably how we will always play. My guess is he'd like to get more length that the 3 and 4, but he won't sacrifice shooting or physicality or jumping ability just for length. I think Bruce had rather give up some size in exchange for toughness and athleticism.

DEPTH is most important right now. We need depth. We need young guys who buy into the system and understand their PT will be limited as a frosh while they learn the system. Next year, we're looking at 10 scholarship guys right now, 11 if Stretch reclassifies. We need at least 11-12 available guys each year because the style Bruce likes to play wears on the body.

We have to get to a point where the roster balances out some. Part of that is still the remnants of Tony Barbee sh!t and Bruce's inability to sign many quality HS kids his first two years. We're still going to have to work the transfer market pretty hard for the next 2-3 years until we can balance the roster and focus mostly on HS recruiting.

I'm not seeing any depth issues for the foreseeable future. We had plenty going into the season and plenty going into next. Take 3 studs away from anybody they'd struggle a lot more than we have. We'll have at least 10 ready to boog next year.

Do you think we look for a 5th year transfer or someone that's going to sit out a year?

I think we need both and might need more if Heron or anyone else decides to leave. Assuming everyone who is currently available returns, we probably need a GT shooter or big guy (if Stretch doesn't reclassify). And I think we need to take a frosh transfer who sits a year. That would be 13. Would have the roster looking something like this:

PG: Harper/Mitchell
SG: Brown/GT
SF: Heron/Doughty/Dunbar
PF: Murray/Okeke
C: Mac/Spencer/Stretch
Transfer who sits until 19-20

The downside to taking a GT is we already have a big senior class next year and the potential for a some other underclassmen to leave. We could be looking at replacing 7-8 guys after next year, which would be so tough to do in one recruiting class for Auburn.

And one more would be my guess. We usually always have someone that leave. If Heron doesn't leave this year he'll leave for sure next year.

At this point, I think Dunbar might leave. I don't want him to, but it just doesn't seem to be a good fit for him. Not sure where he'd go or how he'd get there having already transferred from JUCO and likely having to sit out a year, but if anyone on this team besides Heron leaves, I think it would be him.

If Danjel and Heron both left we'd need another 3. I'd like to think we'd be able to procure an elite grad tran in that scenario. Otherwise we should be pretty set.

Wiley would be 3 in that count. Then, I think Heron and Dunbar are probably the next likeliest guys to leave.

Losing on the days that end in 7 trend continued last night. The only other time we could play on a day that ends in 7 would be the Saturday of the first weekend of the NCAAT. So, we need to avoid any site that plays Thurs/Sat. I believe Nashville is a Fri/Sun site.

gang - this years team is the worst roster we’ll have for the foreseeable future

we won’t have many Murray’s and Malik’s moving forward... they’re busting their asses and have added a great deal of toughness, but if you’re worried about size and if BRUCE’s style can matchup - I mean, his style is going to win the SEC this year with the least talented roster he will have

in future years we’re going to have the same Chuma and Davion back ups coming off the bench, backing up upper classman Chuma’s and Davion’s

instead of Mac, Horace, Desean, and Chuma - imagine this same squad with 4 Chuma’s... or 3 Chuma’s and 1 legit banger... because that’s what we’re building towards

it sucks that we lost EJ, but ultimately that’s just a slight speedbump... stay out of BRUCE’s way and our roster will only get better

Why would Dunbar leave? Can only see him going if Danjel somehow miraculously is booging with us next year. Malik appears in every social media video and looks like he enjoys the hell out being on this team. I’d be astonished if he decides to go elsewhere

Frustration with playing time, not fitting into the system, possibly getting less PT next year. From all accounts, Samir is going to be a very good addition next year. He's a 2/3 guard, which probably eats into Dunbar's PT, unless Heron leaves. He may not leave, but I think it would require him to take more of a backseat next year than this one.

I hope he values athleticism over length bc we score so much and wear teams out. He just needs more depth (which he would have had if not for chuck) but he has to be very specific for the few big guys we get and emphasize rebounding. A bunch of teams we beat had more Length nd it didn’t help them.

You like Davion, and I do too, but I don’t think he does enough. He’s great at perimeter defense and super quick but he needs to improve his shot. He really only ever shoots when he’s wide open after someone drives and pass. Jared has saved us a lot with those nba 3s. He hasn’t hit them lately and it hurts us big time. If Davion can’t do more to create seperatuon I would t be surprised if his Pt goes down some next year. He is a freshman and has plenty of time to improve but I thought Jared was more dynamic last year as a freshman. Jared did get to play more is freshman year than Davion has too so that’s a factor.

I'm very happy. It just sucks that were finally good and now were falling apart.
I don’t think the situation is that dire. We are just exhausted. That whole week off before the tournament will do us wonders imo. I still think we can make the sweet 16.

No concerns about Davion being able to create separation. Go watch the second half of the Uconn and Arky at home games and you’ll see Davion’s ability to make kids look foolish. The kid has all the talent in the world. Just needs more experience and confidence
