OT: Boog hut hut coaching search

This. If what I heard is true, ain’t no way those two will work on the same staff again, ever!
Did you ever give us your thoughts on Bobo? I feel like a long time ago you were high on him, but can’t remember.

Big Kat went to UT and posted on the twitters about reuniting with Shelton Felton and was probably a big reason as to why he ended up at UT. They fired Felton along with Pruitt and Neidermeyer. Guessing Steele was also involved in him going to UT so may not be as big of a blow for the young man.

Holy crap. Steele is named interim HC for now. That would make him Interim HC for two different SEC programs in 18 days. Impressive.

I am pretty biased because I know Mike personally. He has been a good friend since his playing days at UGA. He has a great mind for the game. He is a tireless worker. Great with QB’s. One of the best recruiters in the South. I feel sometimes he can be a little “stuck in his ways”, but I feel Harsin will be able to provide some newness to Mike’s ideas, and a combination of the two offenses could morph into something special. Overall we should see a dramatic improvement in player development. I really like the way the staff has shaped up on the offensive side of the ball. I’m high on Harsin and Mike. We will get our share of high potential and high character kids, who will get better everyday.

It also helps that we now have coaches on our staff that are very close personally with the HC’s and coordinators of some of our biggest rivals. Maybe I’m wrong here, but it has to be harder to flat out lie about and negative recruit against a guy who you call your best friend. Don’t get me wrong, they still want to beat the others eyes out on the field, and take all the best recruits, but at the end of the day that want to see each other be successful.

Will all of this be enough for Auburn to be who we think we should be? A team that competes Year in and Year out for championships? I would not bet against them. I just hope the common fan will give them some time to change the culture and build the program with their guys. I’m as hopeful and excited about this staff as I have been in a long long time. Let’s just hope Harsin is our Bruce on the football field!

War Damn Eagle!

Nice post, gotta agree, I plan on giving harsin 3 years by year 3 I hope to see a 9 win season and from there the sky is the limit.

T Will officially not retained. Probably smart of Harsiin to just purge the whole defensive staff like he did. But kind of sucks bc T Will was the truth. Oh well. Look forward to seeing him spread his wings elsewhere and come back as the HC in a decade or so

@cookedw I know you are/were a recruiting guy. Personally, I am a little down that we didn’t use a position coach to get a Super Star recruiter. What is your feeling on the staff?

I liked TWill too and wish he had been retained.

Mike Bobo is one of the if not the best recruiter in the country.

Friend is one of the best OL recruiters in the country.

I think Etheridge, Caddy, and and Williams have a chance to be big time recruiters.

Sounds like Bedell (TE coach) been impressive already.

Rocker will do fine.

Don't know much about Schmedding and Watts.

I said two things from the beginning:

1) I always want the coach to hire the guys who thinks he needs. I think Harsin definitely did that. Gus had to hire from a limited pool because most thought he was weird and dumb.

2) no matter who we hired as HC, we were not going to start outrecruiting Bama, UGA, and Clemson. We will have to show it on the field to start getting to that level

The biggest thing I hope to see from Harsin, even more than 4 and 5 stars, is actually recruiting to needs and properly managing the roster. Not letting years go by without signing HS OTs and DTs.

I also think the transfer portal is going to change recruiting and become a major part in recruiting across the country, especially if the one time transfer waiver is approved.

I'm pretty excited because above all else, we will put an offense on the field that at least look competent and not one that will be laughed at ny NFL scouts

I'm sure someone has commented on this somewhere else. But the irony of all this is that there was a rumor that Bo Jackson was pushing for Steele to be the HC because then Rodney would be made the first african american coordinator in Boog history. The irony of course is that rodney got his ass canned and then harsin goes out and gets a vastly more qualified person to fulfill that history that Bo wanted. Gotta love it.

100% agree on competent roster. I don’t think we have to out-recruit bama/UGA/Clemmy. Gus-level recruiting rankings would be fine as long as they are complete rosters. Ideally when you have a perfect storm like you land a Derek Brown the same year you have a Marlon Davidson legacy-type then you jump up to the top 5.

Not sure how to feel about rocker huh...

I would have been happy to have him, but wouldn’t mind landing a better recruiter. I think the ideal scenario would have been to have him for one or two years to work with the talented young guys and then have him leave and replaced with a better recruiter. Hopefully we land someone better, but I guess we will see.

I think the new regime is going to try and win recruiting battles on the up and up. Bold strategy iyam

When you have one of, if not the best, recruiters in the country pulling in the talent for you, you don’t need a bagman that’s for sure.

Even the elite of the elite miss occasionally

while they missed on plan A, they got their plan B onboard rather quickly. I’m not so sure this Holden kid will end up being considered anybody’s backup plan by the time it’s all said and done. He really has it all going for him. Pretty surprised he is not rated much higher. Says something about his talent that they are taking his commitment over the much higher rated Tanner kid who is also a diehard Boog from birth. Not sure if they plan to take another QB, but with Davis and Holden being coached up by Harsin and Bobo our future at QB is bright.

If you have not done so already, go checkout his film. Big boy who makes all the throws with ease and ain’t afraid to run it either. Can zip it into tight windows, and also has great touch on the long ball. TD to INT rate is primo! His offer list ain’t nothing to overlook either.

Coaches are happy as hell to have the big OT onboard as well. Moves really well for a 6’8 kid, with room to put on some good weight to his frame. Kid has a demolish you at all cost mentality as well.

I was honestly a little under-whelmed by Gunner's film. He's a really good athlete, but nothing about the way he threw the ball screamed 5 star. That being said, I only saw a handful of clips and kids are notoriously bad about making highlight films that don't show their true strengths.

I watched the new QB's sophomore film and then junior film and was really excited. First of all, he has the height to see over the line which I think is really important in a pro-style offense. He can make all the throws with what looks like an effortless motion. There is a slight oddity with the way he sometimes drops the ball, but he still gets rid of it pretty quickly, especially when he has to. The strides he made in his ability to move from his sophomore year to his junior year were also really impressive. I'm pretty dang high on this kid.

Don't know shit about the OT, but we actually got an OT with potential so I will take it.

Exactly my points. I asked the question what is the difference in the two, and the answer was not much. Gunner is a better athlete, but Holden is the more polished passer and has the higher upside as a Pro QB. I was told that they would have no problem signing Holden in place of their QB commit, if it would have worked out that way. Long way to go until the 2022 class shows up on campus, but it would not surprise anyone if Holden is a top 5 QB by the time he finished his Sr. season.

Rivals analyst told tbb that if not for Covid and Smith (OT) got more exposure, he likely would have been ranked much higher. Lol

Very clear this staff think Geriner is the real deal with such few reoffers at QB and him being one of only two QBs we were focused on (he and Simpson).

Chad Simmons said Geriner outperformed Stockton at 7 on 7 this weekend. I know it's 7 on 7, but I think Geriner has a chance to skyrocket up the rankings

Saw that Bobo is on another 3 Star stud, this one from Texas, maybe class of 22? You familiar? Seen any film on him? Thoughts?

Not sure about the QB you are referring to, but it seems like we want two QBs in this class.

Edit: looks like you are referring to Nice Evers. Know nothing about him other than Rivals said a week ago that Florida and Penn St are believed to be his top 2. But Harsin offered him at Boise
