OT: Boogs Not Mens Softball

Good win last night. Burns was really good, Anderson had some ups and downs, and Greenhill came up huge in a really tough bases loaded spot in the 8th to get out of a jam and keep the lead. Julien hit a 2-run HR, his 4th in the last four games, and added another hit. He’s really seeing the ball well. Bliss also had an RBI double and scored a late insurance run after drawing a lead off walk. Kason Howell had the sac fly on that.

Promptly followed up that great game Friday night with an absolute stinker last night. No hitting to speak of, starting pitching wasn’t very good, just never got into the game when we got down early. Holland and Williams continue to struggle. Need a good performance on the mound today because I still don’t think we’ve found ourselves at the plate yet.

Odd thing is that the guys we know can do it have struggled and the newcomers have been pretty good. Pitching-wise I think our freshmen will have bigger roles very soon. Also sounds like Jack has earned an opportunity to be a weekend starter.

Yeah I don’t think Cincy is very good, but really glad to get the sweep.

Will be interesting to see them going forward.

I think they were 1-6 coming into our series, with all but one loss by one run and all on the road.

So we’re trying to inflate a team that likely won’t win 20 games now?

What’s your prediction for this baseball team, cook?

Better team than last year and same type of potential run to the CWS .

But record wise, honestly no clue. The SEC is ridiculously loaded. Of our 10 SEC series, 9 are against the teams correctly listed above in the top 25. So of the 4 teams not currently in the top 25, we only play one of them.

Away: MSU, USCe, A&M, Vandy, LSU

Home: UTjr, Arky, OM, Bama, UGA

Hopefully, Daniels makes it back in the next month and is his old self. We got a lot of young/new arms that look good, but would love to add him back into the mix. The lineup, from top to bottom, is the best we have had in a while. Need Holland to break out of his slump.

You?

Yeah I think by the end of the year we could have a better squad than last year, but I don't think we will have a better record. Partially due to the fact that we have a lot of young but very talented arms and partially due to the schedule. Hopefully we keep our record good enough to get into the regionals because I think we could make a run regardless of where we are. If Daniels comes back in time and can be a weekend starter then maybe we could even host, but I'm just not sure about that.

I think we’ll be in any game Tanner pitches. Kid has more testicular fortitude (and physical talent) than any AU weekend stater in a long time.

The season will depend on Daniel’s elbow (although I’m not TOTALLY sold on him as a true Ace, yet) and our ability to defend and manufacture runs.

I know we have lots of young talent in the lineup but we’ll need higher baseball IQ than we’ve shown the past two years to make a deeper run down the stretch against the legit comp this season.

Terrified of the bullpen, though.

Burns with another dominating performance.

7 innings
4 hits
1 walk
10 Ks
0 runs
Kid probably won’t be drafted #1 overall like Mize was, but he will be a better pitcher for us and a better pro, IMO.

Kid is fearless and won’t shrink in the biggest moments like CM.

The one thing that has impressed me with Burns, and even Owen, is they're really challenging guys. Lots of fastballs and just enough offspeed to keep hitters off balanced. Now that might not play as well in the SEC, but it’s good to see them trust their stuff so well and not pitch scared.

Bruce signs Movie Star types. Not Porn Star types.

I know this sport is taking an understandable back seat to the Bruce-led HYGs who are the damn champs, but we did end up getting a big SEC sweep to start the conference season. Julien came up clutch on Saturday and Sunday with big hits to drive in go-ahead runs both days. Pitching pretty well and getting timely hits right now. Good recipe for success.

I haven't seen much on Jack, heard anything about being taken out early?

Pitching was phenomenal this weekend, especially when you consider we had to take our Saturday starter out early.
