OT: Boogs Not Mens Softball

I haven't seen much on Jack, heard anything about being taken out early?

Pitching was phenomenal this weekend, especially when you consider we had to take our Saturday starter out early.

Butch said after the game Saturday that he stiffened up. Not sure if that’s shoulder, elbow, or body just due to the cooler temps that night. Said they got tipped off to it in the 4th, didn’t like his warm-up pitches at all before the 5th, an sect pulled him after two pitches into the inning. Hoping it’s just a cold weather deal for him. He looked completely fine in the dugout later. The commentators on the TV said it looked like he had a groin issue, but nothing has been made clear. Maybe Butch sheds more light on it today in his interview with Andy Burcham.

I found in the baseball America rankings article a little snippet that said it was shoulder tightness and extra precautionary. Need him this weekend for sure, but you know Butch will be extra cautious.

Butch said he was hopeful he could make his bullpen this Wednesday. If he can do that, I think he will be fine. I think what we decide to do in the midweek might give us some indication of what the rotation will look like this weekend. If Garrett Wade doesn't start tomorrow, then I would think that means Jack is more doubtful and we'd want Wade available as a weekend starter. If he pitches and goes 4-5 innings or more tomorrow, I have to think we feel pretty good about Jack for the weekend. There's no reason to burn up Wade in the midweek if Owen is going to miss his start this weekend.

Listened to Butch’s interview, and he chalked it up to muscle soreness in the shoulder, likely from the complete game the week before. They’re anticipating Jack being able to go Saturday. Wade will start tomorrow.

Another win last night. Got off to a really slow start. Garrett Wade didn’t have his command last night like he’d had the previous two outings. Gave up 4 runs in the second inning. A big offensive inning in the 5th for us put us ahead for good. We scored 8 in the 5th and 4 in the 6th to put the game away. Conor Davis hit a grand slam in the 5th.

This is what I love about where the program is, we have a lot of arms to choose from. We had to use more of the bullpen on Saturday due to pulling Jack early and we still swept UT and had enough arms to pull our Tuesday starter in the 2nd and the bullpen only gave up one run over the last 7 innings.

For those not following the season, in summary:

Current Stats & Notes:

19-2 overall, 3-0 in SEC Play
RPI: 3*
Ranking: 22*
vs. Top 25*: 5-1

We have 2 pitchers with sub 1.00 ERA.

Jack Owen: 0.31, 33 strikeouts.
Tanner Burns: 0.54, 48 strikeouts.

Biggest concern for me at this point in the season is team batting average. Only two guys over .300.

Well our task this weekend is going to be really tough. No Jack Owen because he still has a little tightness in his throwing shoulder. Playing at #2 MSU. Honestly, I will be happy if we can just win Friday night with Tanner, but winning the series would be huge.

Bad mojo with the injuries. Maybe we’ll get one tonight. Have a feeling we’ll need to score some runs even tonight.

Huge come from behind victory for the baseball boogs tonight. Tanner didn’t have his best stuff early. Gave up 4 in the first. Somehow came back and won 6-5.

I wasn't able to watch, but mods on both sites (Barner and Caldwell) were saying the Ump behind the plate was terrible and Burns was throwing strikes in the 1st that we're not getting called. Great to see him manage to keep his composure and still have us 5 innings

Massive win. Mainly because we had to feel like our best shot to win a game this weekend was tonight with Burns on the mound, and we ahoy that all to hell in the bottom of the 1st. Credit to Tanner for staying focused and battling his ass off to give us 5 innings and only allow the one unearned run. Also, great job by Kyle Gray, Elliott Anderson, and Cody Greenhill for shutting down that offense after the first inning.

If we can win a slugfest tomorrow or Sunday, we will have had a hell of a start to the season. The bad news is we may not have but one series left all year against a team not ranked in the Top 25. So tough.

Top of first inning looked like it was going to be a loose strike zone. Don’t remember who but someone got backward K’d on a ball 2 clicks outside. Then Tanner really struggled to throw strikes at first and then he got squeezed really bad (this is not entirely unusual when a pitcher starts off slow but dumb as shit and frustrating as hell). Umpire continued to squeeze both pitchers for almost the entire rest of the game and then he opened it back up in the bottom of the ninth. So yeah the strike zone hurt us bad in the first but we actually got the good end with Greenhill on the mound.

We toted an ass whooping today, 15-2. Gave up 5 in the first, kinda held things together for the next 3-4 to give us a chance to get back into the game (which we never took advantage of), and then the floodgates opened up late. Still have several fresh arms for the game tomorrow. Anderson will get a start, which I don’t know that I like, and then we have 5-6 guys available after him that haven’t throw much or at all.

More importantly, we have to get the offense going. JT Ginn was great today, take nothing away from him. But if we want to be as good as we can be, this offense can’t continue to struggle. Holland and Williams at the top of the lineup is just not producing anything consistent right now. I’m curious to see if we move either of them around in through lineup to see if we can get them going.

We may have some fresh arms but their bats are so good that we better hit the ball tomorrow. We can win a game we score runs in but we can’t expect to score a few runs late IMO. We have to get Jack back, these freshmen are talented but they can’t handle extended innings yet IMO.

So pointing out that giving up 40 runs in 3 games isn’t very good is trolling now? Are you going on record that it is, in fact, good?

No. You posted nothing after the UTjr series win and nothing after we won Friday. But you got giddy after losing the series today and ran over here to try to post something you though would be clever.

I've asked you once to not troll up this thread. If you can't help yourself, than I'll just put you on ignore until after baseball.

Start your own thread if you like, but dont screw up the official 2019 season thread.

I feel like your constant “please don’t troll post” posts are a form of troll posts in their own right.

A troll within a troll, if you will. The inception of troll posts.

I'd hate to do it, but if you can't refrain, I can just put you on ignore as well until baseball is over.

Which sucks, because you and SJ are two of the funnest posters on here in non baseball threads

So how disappointed can you be with a 1-2 series at the #2 team in the country? Did you think we’d shut their bats down with our 1,4 and 5 starters this weekend? Jimmy needs to play but you seem more serious because of your football posts. What did you expect?
