Just noticed first poll is out. Pretty much every team in the SEC is in it, except for the boogs. Are we gonna suck this year? See Kentucky is in top 10.

I expect us to take a huge step back this year. We played way over our heads last year until it all came crashing down at the end. We’re not a top 50 program as it currently stands.

It all depends on pitching. Casey Mize is a known quantity, and should be a good/great starter. We need at least one other dependable arm, and a better than average one, and then for the bullpen to not suck, and we're in bidness. Butch is known for his ability to recruit and develop pitchers, so hopefully that trend continues.

We’re going to be talented but pretty young in the bullpen again. The field should be a pretty veteran group. We’re going to have to rely on some young arms a whole lot. I have hopes that we can perform well enough to be a .500 team in SEC play and an NCAAT berth, but it almost all hinges on Mize staying healthy (which is a concern for me), Davis Daniel improving a good amount to be a reliable second starter, and a freshman stepping up and being able to win on Sundays.

It is acceptable OP, as long as it doesn't transition into a discussion on boog WOMENS softball you are OK. MENS softball acceptable as always.

So you dont think we make it back to the tourney?

What specifically about this team don't you like?

I have a lot of faith in Butch as a recruiter and as someone who will develop the arms we get on campus. Not sure how that will translate this season, but I'm really excited about the future of AU baseball.

If I remember right, he thought Butch made a bunch of poor coaching decisions last year.

That's weird since he said last year's team "played way over our heads."

Huge fan of Butch from my days of coaching high school baseball. Kids love him. Hunter Stovall from Pelham is a lifelong AU fan who went to State because of Butch. Guy can flat our recruit, and his pitching staffs always performed very well.

Could easily be a tough season. .500 in the league would be an accomplishment IMO. The last staff left an entire empty class so it's still a battle and rebuilding process. Year four and beyond will be fun. After then, we'll be a tourney team most every year unless Butch leaves.

Very similar to what Bruce had to deal with. Broken roster, really bad timing coming in for his first season. This “third” recruiting class is going to be the foundation of the program going forward. I think the team this year will have some really bright spots mixed in with some rather bleak moments. I’m hopeful that there are more bright than bleak.

This came from Perfect game.

28. Auburn
Head Coach: Butch Thompson
Conference: SEC
2017 Record: 37-26 (16-14 SEC)
2017 Finish: Tallahassee Regional

The Tigers opened some eyes during the 2017 season, starting with a series sweep of the eventual National Champion Florida Gators as SEC play opened in mid-March before they ran out of steam down the stretch. Casey Mize is the headliner for this squad, a powerful righthanded pitcher whose name could be in the mix for the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft. Mize not only has the size and stuff of a staff ace, but his results from a year ago match his profile, going 8-2 with a 2.04 ERA and an eye-popping 109-to-9 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Draft-eligible sophomore Davis Daniel gives head coach Butch Thompson a second power arm in the weekend rotation, and senior Calvin Coker is sure to see plenty of time on the mound as well. The lineup returns six regulars from a year ago, and the team is especially hopeful sophomores Conor Davis and Will Holland can take another step forward while seniors Josh Anthony, Jay Estes, Luke Jarvis and Dylan Ingram provide stability. Keep an eye on freshmen pitchers Tanner Burns, Jack Owen and Ryan Hoerter, as well as first-year catcher Steven Williams, who could all make an impact from Day 1.

Word is he got zero and Auburn just paid his legal fees.

His attorney had just tried to quit on him prior to the settlement.

And I'm guessing that was mostly just to shut him up, get him on an NDA, and be done seeing his name in the news once a year ($1 to Key Ramsey). Probably could have gone the full distance and had the whole thing dismissed.

Yeah I’m sure that’s what they want to believe, but anybody claiming to have any sort of info on a case with a non-disclosure deal is laughable. I’m betting he got at least 500k plus attorney fees. Maybe more.

Went back and looked at the thread. rthomas14 is the only notable name claiming he didn't get anything but legal fees paid. @DM8 is an attorney and he claimed that there was no way the lawyers got paid and the client didn't, said it's not like with defense teams where there are a lot of billable hours and that Plaintiff contracts are usually structured so that the client always gets some. The amount quoted was $137,000 and several people chimed in that there was no way plaintiff legal fees were anywhere near that much. I have decided I agree with @Slippin Jimmy and that people around AU want everyone to think he just got legal fees, but he actually got a few dimes.

Sure would be nice if AU could pull together a moderate to good season this year...not ready to stop boog'n and Gus is a complete crap shoot

Gotta hope Mize stays healthy, Daniel makes that transformation from FR to Soph year, and we find a legit third starter. Have heard really good things about Burns being tough to hit this spring, but also heard he got touched up a bit in the fall. Our pitching staff is really talented, but it’s pretty young too. And we’re going to be relying on a bunch of young arms. If the staff pitches to their potential, we’re going to have a good season.

The SECW is absolutely loaded this year. So we could finish 5 or 6 and get into a regional pretty easily.

So let's assume attorney got 33% of that.

So he fought this for 2+ years to hopefully get $1.25M buyout and walked away with $67K (or something in the 5 figures).
Sounds like he decided it wasn’t worth dragging AU through the mud. He helped get our tyrant AD fired and that was enough for him. So selfless.
