OT Goodbye to The Greg

We got some people that were shouting 8-4 or 7-5 all year and the team went 10-2 but somehow they feel vindicated because of the secc championship loss. I don’t get it. Grow up you weirdos. You were wrong about pretty much everything

Two decent seasons in 5 years isn’t good enough to justify giving the dude 7mil per year and total control. Now if he wants to take over the offense and act like a complete retard there’s absolutely nothing we can do about it.

Most people that felt we would lose that many felt that way because they know Gus will always shit the bed a couple of times a year. And they were right. 100%.

I understand that. And I’m not a Gus fan. Just think there’s no one better out there to replace him this year. Can’t deny that he’s built a very good roster
This is where I was. Didn’t mind him coming back for 2018, but didn’t want to lock into having him for next five years minimum. Not really any way around it though

He has. Thank God Baylor imploded and Sumlin wanted Mond.

That’s what I said earlier. He’s got AU in a pickle. Can’t get someone better than him this year but don’t want to be married to him for awhile. Sucks. But I’ll take the marriage over the mystery box

Yeah. Landing Stidham was great but let’s not act like he wasn’t responsible for everyone else. This roster is loaded with nfl player

He gets credit for everyone on the squad. That’s why I said “he has” in response your “he has built a very good roster”. Doesn’t change the fact that it’s basically a fluke we had ONE capable QB on the roster in year 5 after having zero in years three and four.

My frustrations with him are that when he is at his best, there’s hardly anyone better. But when he’s bad, it’s just a complete flop. He has been such an enigma. But he’s gotta keep recruiting the stud DT QBs. They are the ones who bail him out when he has a terrible game plan. Stidham doesn’t do that yet

The only reason I really want him to stay is bc we have Malick and Gatewood in the pipeline. I think we’ll be fine in the Zan O with both those guys

Can’t wait to see the fan base when we get blown out on the road @ UGA and bama. On top of the normal Gus implosion earlier in the season.

This great squad that he built (giving credit where it is due) managed to overcome his coaching deficiencies to have a really, really good year. Given equal talent do you think he can out coach satan, Kirby and Jimbo on a regular basis if both teams play to their abilities? I don’t. That is the reason I believe we are in trouble over the long haul and now we have no way out.

I do agree that the great equalizer is a game changing DT QB. I love Studham more than anyone on this board, but just don’t feel he can win consistently against the premier defenses with our scheming and play calling. Good coaches adjust. That was very obvious last night. I just don’t think Gus is capable of doing the same.

The guy has proved, quite substantially IMO, that when he's on and has a healthy offense he gives the best DC's in the game a really hard time. Saban and Smart really don't enjoy facing good Gus teams. They'd rather see a pro style team or a soft ass spread team like the crap UT had been playing of late.

He's also proved that instead of just being mediocre when he's missing some players or having a bad time of it, he's horrendous. Again, playing an entire half of football with less than 50 total yards is absurd and enough to doubt the coaches ability to do his job. He does that a couple of times every year it seems.

If he was just capable of his bad offensive days being mediocre days everything would look 100% different. Actually as bad as yesterday was, if that was the bottom of the barrel with Gus I'd be okay. We moved the ball enough to stay in the game on an off day with an injured stud RB and we just stalled out or turned it over at terrible times. That wasn't a complete turd fest like UGA last year or LSU 2nd half this year. If yesterdays offense was bad Gus, I could live with that being our floor. I'm unconvinced that will be the case.

Hit me up at Teasers near Daleville
I went there after the first UGA game. Haven’t been that shit faced in a long time.

I'll simply say this, I don't like having an offensive genius that his teams can't score consistently. It tends to be an issue.

While yes, some will point to the games where we did it well.....I get it, and I'll point to the games where his teams can't even score one TD and consistently blows timeouts and wastes plays like a high school team. He's just not a good or consistent coach IMO and my opinion will never change. I will continue to watch us win in spite of him. Period.

What if we dont?

No saying we do or don’t, but do you feel given equal talent Gus can coach on the same stage on a consistent basis as the three coaches we will see every year? If not we are looking at 3+ loses every year. For $7mil per that just ain’t going worth the investment long-term

For one, A&M's contract for Jimbo made "market value" for coaches sky rocket.

It depends on which Gus we get going foward. I think he can, as long as he continues to recruit like he has the last few years. But that doesn't mean he will.

It's hard for me to judge Kirby's ability as a coach. All he had to do was win one game and he did. But he played in the easiest division of any Power of 5 conference. Down right pitiful.

But again, he won the game he needed to.

I would have rathered Gus move on, but I also dont think he is near as bad as some try to make him out to be.

Saban, Smart and Jimbo?

I am not happy he got extended but I also am not sure I'd have been happy if he left. Because I'm not sure we have access to anyone who would have been a home run hire. Being one of the last in the coaching carousel and having to likely work against FSU and a desperate UT wouldn't have helped either.

If Bert goes 7-5 and that job doesn't open we're not having this discussion because he gets a standard bleh rollover year or two added and that's it. We're victims of some real bad timing here. Sucks

I am saying given equal. Hopefully he can keep pace with them on the recruiting trail, but I just think when comparing on the field coaching H2H that Gus is behind those three.

The East is not a powerhouse division top to bottom, but Uk, USCe and at seasons end Mizz were not bad teams. He also beat Miss St soundly and a good ND team on the road with a TFr QB in a primetime showdown. Anyone will tell you Ga Tech and their option offense and being on the road and a rivalry game is a tough matchup, especially right before the SEC Championship game (trap city). They had to win that one to keep their playoff hopes alive and it was not close. GT lost to GT by 1pt and GT beat VT.

SOS says uga is 3rd and 6th in the 2 polls below. Not arguing AU had the tougher road, but ugas schedule was not weak.

I'm @sad yore leaving @Fillup Marschell. You were the first person on tbb to be nice to me when I started my "first post" thread. Of course you didn't know what a mischievous little devil I am (how could you with only knowing my subdued side from TOOS) and that I had watched tbb for weeks and planned that post to reel y'all in and then come out swinging, but it was still quite chivalrous and sweet of you.

Please come back after yore break and enjoy what is going to be a spectacular MBB season. Don't make me have to get yore personal email info and bribe you to come back with bewb pics!

Explain how it was weak m, please? Wisconsin’s was weak. Don’t recall hearing any single person on Tv, newspaper or internet say ugas schedule was weak. Did you open the links, or did you just decide to make that assesment on your own?

3 toughest games were Auburn, ND, and MSU. The great thing about Auburn for them, is they can lose that game and still control their own destiny.

MSU turned out to be slightly better than average.
ND was a good win, but ND turned out not to be a great team.
South Carolina and UK were the next two best teams in the East, and they were average at best.
Missouri was "better" at the end of the year, but still a below average team.
Florida/Vandy/UTjr were beyond terrible.
Ga Tech finished with a losing record.

The SEC East was the worst division in all of college football, IMO. It was bad.

I get it. Kirby is a buddy of yours and you will take up for him no matter what. I respect that. I am in no way saying Kirby won't continue this level of play. I don't know. But I don't think you can crown him as a great coach based off of just this year, given the schedule he had. Even if he had to play a tough schedule, one year doesn't cement a legacy. He is recruiting great. I would think the SECe will be a little tougher next year, but UGA's OOC schedule is really bad. Anything short of a repeat of winning the East will not be a good look for Kirby.
