OT: I find Timeout mismanagement to be an offense I'd fire over

and Gussy calling TO on that 4th and 10 makes all the Butch Jones and Les Miles timeout blunders look like kindergarten stuff. You have a ton of time on the play clock. It's 4th and 10. You decided to go or not to go. Either decision is fine, it's basically 50/50. I'd probably punt with a good defense because our offense isn't going to win 4th and 10 often. But regardless of what you do, you are going to need all 3 of those TO's unless you convert. So the moron made it a one play game when it wasn't a one play game yet.

Fire that man. Fire him for other issues as well, but I'd fire him before he got back to Auburn for simply being too dumb to understand the ABC's of clock management while being paid $5 million a year to coach this sport. Get the hell out.

The second half play calling was truly one of a kind. There was never a deviation from running up the middle and launching Hail Marys until the last drive. How are people making millions of dollars to do that?

At one point we ran on 1st down 17 straight series. Only triple option teams are that predictable, and at least they have more options on the plays. 17 flipping straight times. And we wonder why Stidham's stats stunk in the 2nd half. We'd run for 2 yards and LSU would then know the pass was coming and they were all over the deep stuff.

There are so many bad HC's making 7 figures and Gus is at the top of the list. Stunning really. You can be terrible at the basics of the game and be wealthy for life because the market is inflated to hilarious levels.

I was in a group chat with friends lol’ing at the 17 straight runs on first down... after the punt backed us up to the 2 I told them Gus loved going deep with a go route down the left sideline when he was backed up so we may actually pass on first down... nope... run up the middle...

THEN, we run the go down the left sideline on 2nd down and it’s thrown straight into double coverage and should’ve been picked... because if my dumbass knows that tendency - LSU knows it

he mismanaged the game - the roster - the program - in so many different ways... but that timeout is the single worst thing he’s ever done at Auburn

worse than Tyler Queen over Lamar Jackson...
worse than every snap Jeremy took...
worse than a mock turtleneck under a sweater vest... in September...

It's dumber, because at least on evaluations other people get those wrong too. You literally cannot have any football or game theory knowledge and think taking a TO right there is okay. It's beyond dumb.

You can tell what is Gus and what is Chip too. I still don't think Chip is good, but he's mediocre. Gus is terrible. I can see him on the sideline after pushing for those 1st down runs "take a shot here on 2nd and 10...deep shot". You know it's happening. This is what he's always done, unless we had injured White at QB and he couldn't. That's literally the only time we didn't do this same BS. LSU didn't even have to worry about the area of the field between the numbers 5-15 yards from the LOS. I bet on the All22 they don't even try to defend it at all b/c they know we won't go there.

funny you mention game theory... I’ve used that term idk how many times referring to Gus and JJ’s dumb decisions and had boogs just berate me endlessly and mock the entire concept...

we have no one in the AD or football program who thinks about things on that level... it should be a way of life - and permeate the entire decision making process from top to bottom, on field and off... from hiring, to fundraising, to game day, to contracts, and everything in between...

and it doesn’t take a genius to do it... just normal, thoughtful, leadership

This is why those of us with half a brain were not happy with the Ole Miss game. We all saw what was coming.

Gus (and some other big school HC's) need game management assistants. Someone who just tells you when you cannot waste a TO....like in a punting situation where you might lose 5 yards for delay of game and punt from the 40 instead of the 45 but that 2nd half TO is crazy valuable and worth much more than those 5 yards. Or to tell you when to use the TO's on defense when trying to save the clock, I see coaches botch that all the time and cost themselves time or invite the offense to be less predictable on 3rd down. But Gus wouldn't listen. He's proved that. He's incapable. Beep Bop.

Gus will be at Auburn for a very long time.

Not as the HC he won't. He may live in town, but he's about to be toast. He's going 7-5 with no good wins and he's gonna get fired. He lost some people today. He'll lose more with each loss. He's gone. Not even the mess around the AD right now will save him IMO.

We won't be A&M. We are going to get beat by 30+ by both UGA and bama. The defense will get pissed off, stop being their best and sustain injuries before we get to those games. The offense is what you saw. I mean if we can't get you with basic runs we have nothing and those two rivals will shut it down from snap #1. When you put those losses with the stuff from last year he's gonna have zero friends left and a ton of angry $$ guys who didn't really believe in him before this season.

So glad I didn't watch. I feel like a fuggin' winner right now. Pulling out the scotch, gents.

every single 4th and short beyond our 40 yard line should at least lineup and try to draw someone offsides...

punting at midfield instead of going for it was bad enough... not even trying to get an offsides and cheap first down was even worse...

taking timeouts to save delay of game penalties early in a half infuriate me... especially like the one we called a few weeks back to save a 20something yard field goal attempt... like those 5 yards on a 30something yarder were more important than a timeout...

Bill Simmons has joked that NFL coaches should just hire a 13 year old Madden expert to handle clock management situations, but it’s true... even SABAN, for all his greatness, routinely blows clock management... at least he did through 2014 when I stopped watching their games because they’re boring as hell

Do we replace Jacobs and Gus at the same time? No point in replacing Gus without firing Jacobs. No professional wants to work for him. See the last two coaching searches.

Luck = Preparation + Opportunity

Preparation: Gus LULZ, RED STICK, LULZ
Opportunity: Yardwork and getting the house livable. Pirate radio all day.

Fugg Gus. Y'all are a bunch of suckers for watching ;-)
I’m literally on the couch with the fiancé eating ice cream by the pint..

I’m in a bad place. The only thing that will make it worse is A&M shitting the bed and losing me $100.

Welcome to the Greg. Tell us your thoughts on the State of Auburn.

Yep. May have to hire an interim AD to make the football hire, but that's been done before and it can work. These buyouts mean coaches don't have to really care if their AD is completely their guy or not. You have financial support and if you are a decent HC you will find work again anyway. 20 years ago you had to worry bc your buyout was 200k instead of $8 million.

I think people underestimate how hot Gus's seat was last year with the people that matter. The LSU game and that win getting us into the Sugar Bowl kept some people from making a pretty big push to get him out. They have the same gripes we have AND they are used to a coach they can talk to and Beep Bop doesn't do that. He stays clear of them and when they are around he's like talking to a wall. They don't like him and want him gone. They'll have their way if he doesn't beat UGA or bama and c'mon, that's not happening. I think the only game that even gives him a chance is A&M, so be ready to cheer on the Aggies.

The Leath hire was a year to late for this thing to have worked out well. Jacobs should've been gone last year and the new guy making his hire after a year of evaluating needs. Not sure I dig the interim route, means the GOBN hires the next coach without solid outside advice and that's iffy at best.

I don't love it, but it's better than putting another year of Gus on us. UGA already moved well past us. We're lucky other SEC programs have screwed this up as badly as we have. I don't want another year of this to set us back so I can deal with an interim or some committee.

The committee idea isn't terrible if you don't have Jay Jacobs using it as a screen to push the guy he always wanted. Give me Heath Evans and two other football guys with a brain who work their OWN list, not one provided by the BOT or other admin types. Let the guys who know football actually talk football with the coaches, target the guy they want and have the lawyers work with agents on the contract offer. Keep it as far away from the BOT as possible and don't let Pat Dye anywhere near it and keep guys over the age of 70 away from everything. In fact send Pat Dye to California to interview a fake candidate and then cancel his return flight.

What’s to say? Nothing too surprising going on. You see anything too unexpected today? There wasn’t another BSPN article today so that was a positive.
Whelp, welcome to thunder dome. We have much better content over here and most of us EXPERTS predicted this to happen. For some reason one (alleged) expert was discussing 10 wins this season but the rest of us knew that 8 wins was the absolute ceiling for this god awful program. Great players. Just need more of them and better coaching.

If another coach is hired while Jay Jacobs still has an office in the AD I'm done.

I thought we would beat LSU, but I was concerned and much more concerned that the general fanbase. You knew Gus was gonna screw up one game before UGA somewhere. I could just feel it. As soon as the lead went from 20-0 to 20-7 I felt the trouble coming. at 23-14 I kinda felt like LSU was the favorite. At 23-21 I said that the scoreboard was lying cause we were already down by 4. Turns out I nailed that part. The end was obvious, it was just a matter of how we got there.

I hear you... but the GOBN may have ended up with Kirby in 2012... and as much as I want Dye and his sycophants completely out of the picture forever, I’m willing to give them another swing and tread water for 3-4 years before a new, established AD can make his hire

Gus’ teams have always played hard, so I give him credit for that... but if he stayed I’d be shocked if we didn’t have massive defections from transfers and de-commits... he’s gotta be dangerously close to losing the team and staff

Below is a post I made on tbb recently. Sums up most of my thoughts. Although I’m really pretty apathetic toward it all. I’ve wanted CGM gone since Clemson last year.

Look. You seem reasonable. I think we are mixing and mashing what all we are talking about. Are we really discussing the state of our current team? Are we discussing CGMs tenure? AUs future? People, and I am one, can have mixed emotions and opinions on a topic.

I have sympathy towards Gus’s current plight. I have pessimism towards his ability to turn it around and bring AU to new heights. I have optimism about this current D and some flashes from KJ and Studham. I have a familiar feeling regarding how we have opened the season, improved early to the middle. I have a foreboding feeling regarding how it’s going to end.

I know in a msg board we are all black and white DG or SSPers. We are allowed to have more complex feelings in reality. Reality for me dictates that I have seen this song and dance. I could be wrong. I am all the time.

I am also fatigued with the flaws that even one as unversed in running a college program as I am can pick up on. I feel like plenty of other coaches have programs trending up by year 5. While this program has seen amazing heights w CGM around, roller coaster rides are not how I want AUs program ran. I think it can be done better by many coaches out there. I’m not afraid of getting worse. CGM has at least recruited solidly so the cupboard is not bare and the ship can be turned relatively quickly.

Fair enough. More than anything I hope this finally galvanizes the factions instead of driving them further apart.

AU will be 7-5 and Gus will get his requisite extension. I don't understand why a smart guy like you doesn't believe that. It's the same thing every year. It's who AU is. It's like everyone gets amnesia every year.
