Well obviously all choke jobs aren’t created equal...
I had to look up our opponent. Forgot that was the team Mize no hit, then they almost no hit us with their ace. Guess having a solid knowledge of their team helps. Just glad we did not end up in Tallahassee again.
Our staff pitched extremely well against them that weekend. I think @DufnerFanBoy looked up some stats, and their Ace has not pitched well his last three starts.
Will be interesting to see if with pitch Burns or Mize. Could understand either strategy
One thing is certain. We never saw this kind of thing happening under xCSG.
Did we have a shot to host the year xCSG made it until we got swept at home by Bama the next to last weekend of the year?
As in we didn’t make the tourney two years in a row and we never we in contention to host a Regional.
Looking at Mellen’s stats, he’s had some control issue lately. He’s been able to work around the walks and HBPs for the most part, but it cost him the last 3 appearances. He also got beat up really good at Texas Tech two weeks after he faced us. He gave up 6 runs on 6 hits and 3 HRs in Lubbock.
He’s a tough matchup for us because of our struggles with lefties. But I think having a week to prepare for him will really help us. And IMO NE can’t really throw anyone else. We really roughed up everyone else they threw at us. He’s 1-4 against teams that made a regional.
Looked at the guy I think NC State will start against us if we both win game one, and he's not been great either lately. He's 2-3 with a 6.67 ERA in his last 5 starts. His ERA has risen from .99 to 2.71 in those 5 starts. His last five starts:
UNC (loss): 6.2 IP, 5 H, 5 R (4 ER), 1 BB, 4K
W & M (win): 5.2 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 7 K
Wake (win): 6.0 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 10 K
at FSU (loss): 5.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
vs FSU (ACCT loss): 2.1 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
Our concern is that he's a lefty, but he's gettable if we have a good approach.
