Guys, not sure why but this really hit me so hard this morning. I can remember a good friend giving me a copy of his first book when I was a fledgling cook. It was a mind expanding moment that gave voice to a lot of what i was going through. Since then, I have read and watched with envy and marvel at the food, places, people and cultures i've encountered through his works.
Toni, you will be missed. Hate that your friends, family, associates and fans couldn't help you through whatever you were enduring. Hope you find peace. Cheers.

I seem to remember like 5 years ago him coming to the defense of an 80 year old woman who wrote a blog post review about an Olive Garden when all of these pretentious folks were making fun of her.

I believe he wrote a book about her

Yeah. He financed/published a bunch of her reviews into a book. He wrote a prologue for it .

Sad situation. Hard as an outsider to imagine someone that successful being that unhappy. Feel for his family and friends for sure.
There are many forms of success. Perhaps he didn't succeed in the area it mattered most, to him. Poor guy. Depression is a terrible thing.

I also owe him for broadening my horizons. He piqued my curiosity for travel and learning other cultures. I had the privilege to visit a couple of the places he had been, on his shows. Great times.
