OT: What halftime adjustments would you have made?

We were down 10-7 at half, totally winnable game.

They shut down our screen passes, their defense was playing lights out and we just lost our best LB.

I think it would be a fun exercise to go over the game and see what went wrong and where we could've made adjustments to win it, because I don't think UGA was more talented, I think Kirby had a better game plan and they got lucky we had a few injuries.

I honestly think that UGA defense is up there with Clemson as the best ones we've faced, better than what bama has this year. We just made plays in Game 1, and Kerryon made an unreal # of them miss on plays that would have been no gain that turned into nice plays for us. We hit play calls perfectly and were just on.

Obviously on offense it felt like we needed over the middle, intermediate passes. I can't tell without All22 film if it was really open, but it felt like it had to be. Didn't help that we had 2-3 shots down field with #81 and never really gave him a chance to make any of those plays. Needed that to loosen them up some. I probably would have shelved Kerryon because he just wasn't going to do anything other than get the yards that were there for anyone. He couldn't move.

I thought they had a really smart, well executed day on offense. And our defense looked whipped after a quarter even though we were still in the lead. We just looked exhausted and without any edge at all. Sometimes the other guy is really good and just ready for you and you are beat down. Maybe if UGA had to play a legit power instead of a bad version of GT the game would have been different. Them coasting for 2 weeks and getting to work on things and get healthy killed us as much as anything IMO.

Hard to argue with any of this. Simply put we don’t have anything different that we can do on offense. We don’t have intermediate over the middle passing routes. We don’t have another back that can come in and give the defense something else to worry about. Our game plan is our game plan. If it does not work we are just SOL. Just keep trying to fit the square peg in the round hole. That is my issue with Gus.

I do agree, uga was just fresher, we didn't have time to recover and all that.

I don't think they could have played the outside screen stuff the way they did if we have a healthy Kerryon. Once they realized he was so limited they started shutting us down. Our first few drives were likely our best and as soon as they saw what #21 had in him they knew they could play us differently. It's one thing to be able to take away a teams 1st option. Not easy to take away the top 2 things they want to do. And we just failed to execute any on the 3rd....deep balls.

The lack of over the middle stuff is still weird. We obviously have some of it, because we saw some of it the last month and we saw a TD on a slant to NCM yesterday. We just don't have enough of it and we don't call it often enough. It's so weird.

And maybe a few carries for that other guy, #5. We treated him like he was a walk on we never wanted to play instead of one of our top recruits that we fought hard for.
He looked undersized to me. Needs to put on some muscle this off-season.

may have thrown MALIK, our savior in training, in for a few plays just to give him a chance to experience a big game, and also to slow that rush down some. overall, can't really harp on gus and his crew for the game plan, just suxs that KJ got run into the ground the first half of the season.

UGA had the emotional edge, plain and simple. Can't outscheme that. They whooped our ass. This loss falls on the coaches IMHO. We just didn't seem up to the challenge.

Really shitty way to lose. Wiped out the magic from the 40-17 and IB completely for me.

and see you can kinda harp on gus for that, he'd hand our only good RB the ball 45 times in a game that didn't matter when we're up 30 instead of resting him. So I do kinda blame him for that.

Having to play 3/4 playoff teams this season, and 4/4 over the last 11 months is the most Auburn thing ever. We always seem to get the $#!+ end of the schedule stick, and bama coasts through playing the little sisters of the poor every week. Even teams that are supposed to be good, like f$u, turn out to be garbage.

Yesterday was ridiculous. KJ should have never played past the first quarter. Martin, Miller, Barrett and Willis all should have gotten PT. We didn’t come to win. We weren’t man enough to tell KJ “we love you, you are a warrior, but you are too hurt and need rest”.

Stiddy got hurt too it seems.

Everything went wrong.

I do harp on him for not developing talent and running guys into the ground throughout the year, but i thought the offensive strategy was good enough, i didn't like that it relied so much on an unhealthy KJ, but at some point you have to think that on a team with so much talent other guys are gonna step up and make plays. There were a lot dropped balls and guys not getting open. Credit the UGA defense for some but you cant tell me AU can't create favorable match ups and get open on passing downs.

Wasn't thrilled with the result, but it wasn't like you couldn't see it coming after Gus and crew kept riding KJ into the ground all season and never developed the intermediate passing game. Hopefully year two with CHIP and Stid will see some of that. Sure hope KJ enjoys a couple of years in the league and invests the money well.

Seems like the common sense adjustments would have been:

1. Take Kerryon out of the game
2. Throw quick slants instead of screens to Ryan davis. The middle of the field was open.

probably could have helped Au move the chains more.

I tried to find this out on the bunker yesterday. Nobody had any facts. Some said coke, some said pot, some said he got in a fight with KJ and some said he is saving himself for the NFL. Nobody seemed to really know yet they all acted like they knew.

@AUNaughty7 said he was kicked off the team for failed drug tests. He seems to be pretty in the know with these things.
This is what my folks in the program have insinuated as well. What i don't understand is why is he still "with" the team? Why is he allowed to travel with the team, it seems like you would want to remove that distraction if it was true.

It’s a better look for both Pettway and Zan to just say he’s injured. Will be really interesting to see if he plays the bowl game

Hell, the UGA LB got arrested hours after Saturday's game for possession of marijuana - second offense. Think Kirby and the team didn't know this kid was still smoking pot?
Unless Pett is coming into practice with tract marks and foaming at the mouth, I would have turned a blind eye and played that fvcker.
Zhan probably tested him after the first UGA game and ended up putting himself in a hole thinking KJ would stay healthy.

our weed testing procedures reek of Jay Jacobs and the old bubba network in Auburn. Gus recruited guys like Mike Dyer, I'm not sure he cares too much about the weed himself.

Always felt like an Athletic Department thing to me as well. Crazed cultists acting like it's the 1950's

They do a better job of getting around these things than you are giving them credit for. Sean didn’t just start smoking this year. Pettway and many others in the Jacobs era have been treated “fairly” for sure.

If any player has been suspended for cannabis only then it's a joke and needs to be rectified.
