Season Long SEC Football Discussion Thread

Well now we know what song will be shoved down our throats for the next 6 months. Also- how does a TE who can’t catch keep getting so much air time?

They’re a little overhyped I think, but finishing 3rd in the West isn’t a very tall task at the moment. And they do have a top QB and a damn good defensive line.
I just like it’s hard to justify picking them for anything right after their most successful coach in their history leaves and their star QB is also coming off a gruesome leg injury

No pre season all first team honors on offense or defense for our Boogs. Kind of surprised but I don’t think Zahn openly lobbies for his guys like some other coaches do

Aside from 2013 when Tre Mason and Corey grant were on kick return duty and Chris Davis was on punts, we've been pretty fuggin awful in kick and punt returns during Gus' tenure. Stephen Roberts was pretty good but he didn't even get a chance to be the man until marcus davis finally got injured.

So what I’m gathering from the boog board is this:

Our offensive is going to be inexperienced in big games (obviously) but if Stidham dies from poor O-line play we are going to be right royally fvcked. Malik and Gatewood are not good Quarterbacks.

I don't think the OL is gonna be that inexperienced. We return 3 starters and they got some grad transfer that can play RT if it comes down to it. The problem is that both guys competing for the starting center spot got injured in the spring. That's really the only worry imo.

I'd be really excited to see what Malick Willis could do if they actually let him throw the ball. I'm sure he'd throw some picks but the defense will be good enough to not make every mistake he made be disastrous. His legs would also offset some bad mistakes with some explosive plays.

I hope Malik and Gatewood transfer. It is not like we are going to utilize their strengths. They could play somewhere else and be appreciated.

One of the two will end up elsewhere. And the other one that stays will probably play a different position by graduation.

So a last-minute 3* Plan G QB offer and a raw kid who split time in HS aren’t likely the future?

I’m shocked, I tell ya.

Who could’ve possibly seen this coming...

Fvck you, Gus.

Let the future backfield comparison below sink in for a second...

Willis/Gatewood
Kam Martin/Asa Martin/Shivers/Boobie

vs.

Fromm/Fields
Swift/Zeus/Cook/Holyfield/Herrien

Hope we get them this year. Right

Some interesting facts (at least to me)
Four Eastern teams play 4 teams from Tennessee
Two play 3 from that state & Vandy is one of them
UT plays 2, so it looks like they are padding their schedules with little sisters from that state

On the Boog side, looks like they are playing 12 teams from nine states. Not much to all of this garbage, but something I like to look at every year..

There is a State of Auburn joke in there somewhere, but I'm too tired to find it.

I don’t get this line of thinking. You have to have a backup QB. Everyone has to have one. Generally, you need 3 scholarship QBs. Malik will have a shot at the starting job next year when Stidham leaves. I get the hate for Gus and the theory that he’s not good at developing QBs, but we still need backups. If you’re wishing for all of our backups to leave to be appreciated, you’re wishing for the football team to fail, which I don’t understand.
