Boogs v Bama

I have a total fancrush on him, but if he can leave and be a high draft pick as a SOPH under the tutelage of Bruce I'm all for it. Not sure there would be much better of a recruiting chip we could play (and we likely need one right now after all the FBI crap) than having Okeke end up being a stud that NBA squads want to get their hands on 12 months from now.

I don’t see Chuma the way most do here. Whose game in the NBA, do you see in him?

Tracy McGrady, except not as good or talented

Really hope these guys play their best basketball tomorrow, and stay out of foul trouble. They deserve to have a home victory vs bama and to have The Clam absolutely rocking. I hope Bryce and Co. shoot lights out and Chuma steps in and plays to his potential. We could still make a run, but let's whip bama and florida and get that SEC Champ before we start thinking about San Antonio...

I didn’t think about him but he definitely doesn’t have the “bounce” the TMac had. I don’t really see that.
No he doesn't, but Chuma is sneaky athletic. There have been a few plays this year where I wondered who he was finishing at the rim out of nowhere. If he could use that athleticism more consistently and always be under control and focused, then he could really do some damage the rest of this season.

I keep thinking about Draymond for some reason, without the propensity to be a massive tool, and maybe a Sean Elliot? I honestly just can’t figure him out.

I think he could be a lot like Shane Battier his Jr/Sr years at Duke. He definitely isn't the defensive stud that Battier was, but if you look at the offensive numbers I think he could be very similar. And, if he could really work on his defense this offseason, then he could quickly be one of our most important players.

Battier averaged 17ppg and 20ppg his final 2 seasons, while shooting nearly 50% fg and between 42%-44% from 3. I honestly think Chuma could do that because of his range. He's tough for a big to guard and if he works on driving to the basket he could become damn near impossible to guard.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking. Battier would just quietly put up ridiculous numbers, kinda like MUSTAPHA currently does for AU, and I think Chuma could be the same type of playa.

Draymond is who comes to mind for me with Chuma. Except Chuma is more athletic, a better shooter and better all around offensive game. Not as tenacious on D and the glass yet. Not a lunatic.

I like this but I’ll add that Draymond doesn’t get enough credit on the offensive end IMO because of how they play. He could be a 20-25 pt scorer for many teams. Wouldn’t be averaging 8 assists a game though.

In the 8 SEC games where Chuma has played at least 18 minutes, he's scored in double digits in 6 of them and at least 3 rebounds in every game. We need him to rebound the ball, stay out of foul trouble, and be a matchup nightmare for the big they choose to guard him. If we go with a front line of Chuma and Murray to start the game, I'm curious how Bama will choose to play us. Will they go with 4 guards and Hall or will they try to go big and play Giddens/Smith/Reese and Hall together to try to take advantage of their size inside?

Chuma has made some insanely athletic plays that seem to just go unnoticed because he’s so non chalant about everything. If Heron or Dunbar had done some of the crazy put back dunks that Chuma has done, then they’d have flexed and screamed and whatever. But Chuma just gets back to business. He’s flashed some great handle to beat man defenders and create space. He obviously has great range and superb body control around the rim. I don’t think he’s super bouncy or overly explosive, but some more of that could come after spending a summer in a college s&c program bc right now he looks a little doughy.

Idk. I think he’s gonna be really good once he decides to start taking control and is encouraged to become THE GUY

I agree with this. I absolutely love his happy go lucky attitude but I would t mind him getting more assertive and aggressive.

Realistically....Thaddeus Young. Dude plays 30 minutes a night and has been in the league since 2007. 6'8" dude who can shoot the 3 and defend multiple positions. I think thats probably what Chuma becomes if he works hard at it and focuses on the right things.

I think it's possible he becomes more. He's got some game off the bounce that he's flashed. He can get a little thicker and probably is more athletic than we've seen so far. Looks like he hasn't really spent a ton of time fine tuning that side to me.

How tall is Chuma really? I have heard people say he is 6'8" but I am skeptical. If he is really 6'8", he has major upside. If he is 6'6" not as much. A couple of inches shouldn't make that much difference, but really can when it comes to the NBA.
