Got to see my boy @bprockman v3.0 & his FINE LADY again which was worth price of admission. Kept thinking the Boogs would blow the doors off the Fighting Bill Clark’s, but a DUB is a DUB. Can anybody tell me if this will be a neutral or another road victory for the Boogs?
Counts as a road victory according to the tv announcers.

Oh God I hate people. It’s your duty to bedowngrade her in Austin and Danjel’s honor.
I finally lost it on her late in the game. Try not to do that but she was literally shreaking at every single call or no call all night. I don’t mean most....I mean even when UAB got a whistle she complained about how they didn’t get more. Worst fan I’ve sat near on 10 years or more. Evidence by the fact her husband didn’t even turn to look at me and nary a UAB fan so much as whispered in her defense.

One of Brown’s worst games. Didn’t hit anything and even on defense he went absent minded a few times.

UAB did 2 things that were likely extreme and not very repeatable.

- fully willing to shoot last second contested jumpers in order to avoid any chance of live ball turnovers. Never seen a team soooo willing to have bad possessions if it meant no TO’s. And they hit a stupid number of those shots

- They really limited the off ball help defensively. They just wouldn’t come off the shooters almost no matter what. Finally figured it out in the 2nd and got Wiley/Chuma paint touches and others started driving.

Great atmosphere tonight. Proud of our fan base for showing up in force. Turnout for MTSU last year sucked, but this year was impressive. 15,500 announced attendance and it was 80-90% Auburn fans.

On the game, obviously we shot the ball horrifically. On just a bad shooting night (30% from 3), we win by 12-15 points. UAB played their asses off and hit a ton of contested shots as the shot clock ran out. Very few teams will be able to pull off that kind of strategy. There wasn't much we could have done in most of those situations as our D was solid, they just made tough shots.

Harper put our squad on his back and carried us to the W. Incredible to have 2 guards who are capable of putting up 30+ points on any given night.

Biggest issue going forward is we need to shoot the ball better away from home. We don't have to shoot the lights out, but we will get beat by inferior teams shooting 18-25%. To insulate us from this issue, we need to be able to shift to our post game seamlessly. We did that tonight with Wiley and Chuma with some success so we are making progress in that regard. Obviously BRUCE knows what he is doing, but if he asked my thoughts on strategy away from home, I would suggest we make the post game our first option away from home when the other team succeeds in stopping us from running. If we could establish our offense and develop some rhythm in the paint, we could start kicking it out for open looks.

On Danjel, I thought he looked good in limited minutes. He was playing stifling defense and had a nice board and put back on O. I had hoped he would get more minutes tonight, but with it being a close game I can understand why Bruce left him on the bench in the second half. Hopefully he can contribute more in Raleigh. The NC State game is going to be a huge one for our tournament seeding. If we want a shot at a 1 seed, it's a near must win.

Way to pull us through guys. It was laughable when the douchebag uab corch would try and pump up the crowd and it sounded about as loud as a whisper in church. The other kids played the game of their lives and knew the strategy employed was the only way they would have a chance. It was absurd the amount of shots that they hit as the clock went down. Even the threes down the stretch from their big. Just one of those nights where it all goes right for the other team, and our Boogs has to scratch and claw and we had the bigger heart and the bigger warrior tonight.

Being on the bunker after tonight makes me appreciate the posters on this board. Fuggin guys over there are acting like the sky is falling. Auburn not a tournament team, one guy even started a thread asking why Bruce gets a pass and Gus never does. Just laughably bad takes over there.

I’m mostly a lurker here, but wanted to give a shout out to the best basketball minds in regards to our boogs.

I am a little disappointed at how different we shoot as a team from home compared to when we play somewhere else. Bryce is the most affected when he’s not playing in the clam. When we don’t hit 3s our games are tough.
When the shots are not falling we have to let Harper drive and give it to chuma or Wiley. Our production on offense is not good enough right now when our deep shots go cold.

I thought Danjel looked like he didn’t know where he was supposed to be on both ends. The one he just ran down the court when UAB put a shot up they got a board and wide open 3 rankled me.

Dunbar took 8 shots that’s way too many although he did hit a big one.

Austin 2-5 from the field not too good. Not horrible but I feel like he’s gotta look to pass a little more.

Bryce was way off but Samir has been much different/ worse in our games away from the Clam.

Chuma gotta get more involved in general and particularly when we struggle. He’s automatic on the block.

Will be nice to play a real team that isn’t afraid to actually play ball in NC St although they’ll run us out the gym if we shoot like pure ass.

Good thing is these boogs play great D so we can be off and still be in games. I mean not this bad but in general. I’d like to see us dial up more pressure on these kinda teams gotta force TOs and speed them up somehow.

We are going to have to start to find a way to make Chuma a focal point of the offense. Biggest mismatch on the court most of the time

We will likely see several more teams try to slow the game down. If they do, we need to turn the D up wide open (no fouls) to create turnovers. We did it when we fell behind 7 and they didnt get off a shot for a while.

Not too worried about last night’s offensive performance so long as it doesn’t linger and mess with our confidence down the road. I’d rather go through games and struggles like this now than cruise through until late February and start struggling. Good to have some games like this that test us.

I do have some concerns about our shooting away from the Clam. Was an issue last year and has shown itself to be an issue at times this year. We can talk about stagnant offense and offensive flow and all kinds of different things, but the bottom line is we created some good looks all night long and didn’t convert. I was happy to see us basically go away from the 3 late in the second half when it was obviously not our night from distance.

I’d like to see Bryce try to get to the basket more early in the game. Maybe get an easy elbow jumper or get fouled and get to the FT line. Something where he can get a clean, easy look at the ball going in. Let him settle in early. Same with Chuma.

Defensively, I thought it was solid, not special. I wasn’t a big fan of switching on the guards because it seemed to prevent us from getting up in their guards and pressuring them. Our pressure and intensity, especially on the perimeter, just seemed lacking until after Bruce started chewing their coach’s ass. We seemed to pick things up after that. UAB approached that game a lot differently than we did from a mindset perspective IMO and acted like this was their biggest rivalry game in decades. Their chirpy coach kinda backed that up.

All in all, we won a tough game away from home against a team who played their absolute best all night while not playing close to a good game offensively. Learn from the experience and get ready for a crazy environment in Raleigh.

I've erected a few statues lately in Sweet Baby J's honor.
There are still some posters that thinks he isn’t that good on this and other forums. I think it’s silly that someone can criticize and blame Harper for the team playing bad last night but some do.

My takeaways if anyone cares:

Pleased that we came away with the win after that abysmal shooting. Felt like it was trending the wrong way with 10 minutes to go before Jared stepped up. Not quite John Petty on the road bad, but must shoot at a much better clip to win a tough one in Raleigh.

Sweet Baby J is the truth. So confident down the stretch. And his ball handling is a treat to watch in person. Those little accelerated half dribbles had me swooning.

UAB’s coach is a petulant ass. Wish Bruce could have put him in a sweaty head lock for Steven to fart on.

Chuma needs more shots.

Brown was just plain bad, but everyone is entitled to an off night, especially after his last 30+ outing.

I’d really like to see Danjel rotate at the three with Malik and send Samir to the bench to spell 1 and 2.

I like having tall boys at basketball games.

That’s all I got for now.

Chuma does need more shots but part of that is on chuma. He isn’t as assertive as he needs to be imo.
