Beat Kansas, UNC, and UK consecutively. Just unreal

As satisfying as this is, and it is so amazing, we have come this far to win it all. Harper put it all out there today. The whole team did. These players aren't satisfied. They are hungry as fvck. Mac busted so much ass today, steals, blocking shots, hustling his ass off. What a game.

I still can't believe this is real. Just wrote my post game novel. Definitely TLDR, but included some highlights...

What we just saw today was one of the most incredible accomplishments you will ever see in sports. Our guys did something that not only no team has ever done in school history, but something we had reason to even dream could be a possibility for most of our team's history. After destroying arguably the best team in the country, we came back and found a way to win without our best player while facing the team that had beaten us twice already and was the worst possible matchup for us. The obliterated us 13 games ago. The symmetry of being destroyed sparking this run and then getting retribution to reach the Final 4 is surreal. This is the stuff of legend. Remember this moment because this is a win we will all remember for the rest of our lives as Auburn fans. This team played for Chuma today and willed their way to the win despite not shooting hot from deep.

Where do I even begin to discuss how it unfolded. We looked awful in the first half early. No shots were falling. UK was just grinding us down and it looked bleak when we were down double digits. Our guys refused to quit and found a way to get the offense going for a run over the last few mins to go to the half down 5. We had every reason to feel good at the half to only be down 5 after being out shot from 3 by UK and only hitting 3 of our own.

Second half start was huge. Our guys came out and immediately cut the 5 point lead. The Bryce steal and step by 3 pointer was as big of a play as anyone could make. We had all the momentum, but UK with a huge assist from the refs manage to stifle our run. We had at least 6 or 7 takes in the paint where there was a lot of contact and the refs swallowed their whistle. Incredible job by our guys to overcome the terribly uneven calls and remain ahead until UK forced OT. I do wish Horace's trey had fallen for the W as that would have been the shot heard round the world by the most unlikely guy.

It would have been very easy for our guys to come out flat in OT with the disappointment of losing the lead at the end of the first half. Instead, Jared took over the game. His first take he drew contact with no whistle. He finished his next 2 to give us a lead we would never relinquish. He nailed his FTs even after taking huge contact on that rebound at the end. Just an unreal effort by the best PG in Auburn history.

Full game highlights:

Statistical Highlights:

Jared gets the MVP award for the region and the game for his OT performance. 26 points despite only going 1/6 from deep. 11/11 from the FT line. 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 huge steals. The bottom line is we have Jared and other team's don't. The 4 point play he made in the first half was massive when we were down by 10. Historic, legendary performance from Jared. I don't have the superlatives necessary to describe what he did for us today. I sincerely hope he comes back next year, but his jersey belongs in the rafters after today as the greatest player ever at his position.

Bryce delivered won of his best performances of his career as well today. 24 points, 4/7 from deep, 8/12 overall from the field. Scored a lot of points for us today attacking the basket and knocking down pull up jumpers. His ability to adjust his game to UK's D was a huge factor in this win. He now stands 1 3 pointer away from tying the all time SEC single season record held by that trashy clown Marshall Henderson. He's already 2nd all time in the SEC for made 3s so to set the single season record in the final 4 will be an incredible accomplishment. Bryce's jersey also belongs in the rafters as one of the greatest shooters in conference history.

Danjel was big for us today playing without Chuma. He knocked down the first shot of the game and played extremely hard on D all game. The refs screwed him with ticky tack fouls. Only 6 points, but both of his 3s were huge shots at the time they went down. Tied for the team lead the with 7 rebounds and added 2 assists and a steal.

Mac delivered his 2nd straight great game for us. His rim running was huge today and he missed 2 FTs on the most obvious foul of the day that was not called on UK. 8 points, 2 blocks and 2 assists for a very strong line.

Wiley was a very important piece today. His size kept UK from being able to run rough shod over us in the paint when he was in the game. Added 7 points on 3/6 shooting with one of his prettiest shots of the year early in the game.

Dunbar only had 1 point, but he was playing incredibly physical and got called for a ton of nonsense ticky tack fouls. His block in the 2nd half was one of the biggest plays of the game.

Samir only chipped in 3 points, but he tied for the team lead with 7 rebounds. Huge contribution as keeping it close on the glass was one of the biggest keys to this win.

As a team, we had our worst 3 point shooting game during the 12 game winning streak which makes this all the more remarkable. 7/23 for only 30% from deep. We did a great job in our other key stats though, namely on the boards. UK only outrebounded us 41-37 and somehow we beat them on the offensive glass 12-11. Can't say enough about the effort that took for our guys to hang with them on the boards, especially without Chuma. Third key stat was turnovers that we won decisively 14-9. As @jeramye and @MattAU05 have noted throughout this run, when we do well in 2 of those 3 stats, we win the game. Had we shot our normal % from 3 today, we would have beaten UK comfortably.

Watching Chuma put the sticker on the bracket at the end is an all time sports moment for me. To pull this win off for that kid is just an amazing achievement for our team. Had Chuma played today, we would have run UK out of the building just like we did KU and UNC. The first half was the kind of game where he has carried us when shots were not falling and the pace was slow. He would have given us a 10+ half time lead and we would have won the game by 20+ at the end. I assume we all lost years off our life from the stress because the game ended up being far closer than it otherwise would have been.

We found out today that this is the best team in the country even without Chuma. No other team has run the gauntlet that we have done at this point or been as impressive as we have been in the tournament. With Chuma, I don't think there's a team that could have challenged us with the way we had been playing. Without him, we cleared our biggest remaining hurdle today. UK was by far the worst matchup for us. UVA is obviously a great team, but their defense sets up well for us as they sit back in their zone and the way to beat them is to shoot over them. If we have our normal shooting day, we will be able to beat them. They have played the worst in the tournament thus far of any of the top teams. I would hate to be anyone lined up against our guys who have demonstrated they are a team of destiny.

As tough as it is to describe this run, its even more difficult to find words to do justice to our 12 game winning streak. Recall, we were 18-9 on February 27th. Just over a month later, we are now 30-9. Repeat those numbers for a few mins. The tournament portion of the run was the most impressive in college hoops history to make the final 4, destroying KU, UNC, and then beating UK without our best player. No team has ever run that kind of gauntlet.

The biggest impact of this run is that it should turn the Auburn basketball fire in our fan base into a conflagration. We could not be luckier to have Bruce as our coach and this is only the beginning of our rise to become one of the great basketball powers. Our guys have left blue bloods in their wake all the way to the final 4. They have taken the respect that the national media was so reluctant to give them. Any doubt about Auburn being a basketball school should be erased.

I gotta find a way to Minny.

We’ve been looking. Unfortunately with UVA winning tickets out of DCA for main cabin are 1600 and up. First class is through the roof.
I may regret it, but I think we aren’t going to go. Money is there but I would have to work the whole time except for the games and that’s putting a damper on going too.

Gotta a couple non-stop out of Memphis for just a bit over $1500, but I stepped up & got them this morning. Wife already said NO NOSEBLEED, so there’s that. Of course she is a Bam grad, loves my sons & myself, but not NEAR as much as she loves our HYGS. Smart lady is she.

Guys, I had a lot of guest over, so I couldn’t post. What a game! While we have absolutely nothing to do with the outcome of a game as fans; I want to congratulate each and every one of you. I believe we have a chance to win this thing. Cheers to you guys!
